mikelbring··on Welcome to the public AS/400
We used one of these at my old job, well the IMB iSeries but the database was started in the early 80s. Fun times, all the employees where still on green screen when I was there (2011-2012). We started to move everyone to a web application that accessed the AS/400 data.
mikelbring··on Retiring the Netflix Public API
I am glad my site moved away [1] from their API to TMDB. Just in time.

mikelbring··on Show HN: Sports betting between friends
http://gamblino.com lets you do the same thing but on an app.
mikelbring··on Amazon S3 Pricing Changes Effective April 1, 2014
Is it just the cost of storage that dropped? Bandwidth is still a major burden.
mikelbring··on Ask HN: Is this a crazy idea?
I moved to a bigger area (from small town Nebraska) for a job, after a few years I was working remote and decided to move back. I've been nervous about losing my job and not finding anything but the best thing you can do is build as many online connections as you can so you can always get work.
mikelbring··on Welcome to Unreal Engine 4
Creative Market has a photoshop plugin that lets you do this with their platform.

mikelbring··on Gears of war: When mechanical analog computers ruled the waves
No not about the video game.
mikelbring··on Ask HN: Do you have any code currently in production that you're ashamed of?
Lots of Forrst
mikelbring··on We're making visual feedback simpler.
Looks like it does the exact same thing http://notableapp.com/ does.
mikelbring··on PHP 5.5.8 Released
The Laravel book by Taylor (creator of Laravel) is great for even non-Laravel users. https://leanpub.com/laravel
mikelbring··on Introducing Instagram Direct
Had to double check to make sure I wasn't on The Onion.
mikelbring··on Choosing a JavaScript MVC Framework
A lot of people I hear say they don't choose backbone because of the amount of stuff you have to write to get started, but they never mention backbone+marionette, which imo fixes a lot of the boilerplate code you have to write.
mikelbring··on Meet Coin (YC W13), a startup creating a universal credit card
A lot of places ID you when you use a card. I wonder how that would work. I don't see a name on it.
mikelbring··on Meet Coin (YC W13), a startup creating a universal credit card
What does that mean? EMV liability shift?
mikelbring··on Facebook Messenger 3.0
I just prefer to use the FB app it self. When I was using the Messenger app, I would get a notification from Messenger and the FB app, it got rather annoying.
mikelbring··on Ask HN: What's the best place in the U.S. to live and work cheaply?
I moved out of a larger tech center where I had a on-location job to where I am now (back to where I was raised). However, I didn't move until after working from home for a year and knowing I was protected for the long term.
mikelbring··on Ask HN: What's the best place in the U.S. to live and work cheaply?
Absolutely. I've been to both NYC and SF in the last 12 months.
mikelbring··on Ask HN: What's the best place in the U.S. to live and work cheaply?
I work remotely from home in the middle of Nebraska. I get paid a SF-like salary but pay little in rent in comparison.
mikelbring··on The Monster Truck Madness 2 site is unchanged from 1998
More responsive than most sites today.
mikelbring··on Draft – A Physical Notebook That Syncs To The Cloud.
I really like the idea of this. I wonder if they will let you pick the frequency of new notebooks. I don't think I would use an entire notebook in a month but maybe with this I would.
mikelbring··on Redesign: From PHP/MySQL to Node/MongoDB Stack
You can change the URL live by using pushState[1].

mikelbring··on Show HN: Job board designed for freelancers
I considered not approving the full time jobs because I wanted to gear this towards contractors, however I really need jobs to be listed.
mikelbring··on Show HN: Job board designed for freelancers
I really considered having a summary of each job free members see and then one paid members see. I may go back to that.
mikelbring··on Show HN: Job board designed for freelancers
I don't really have a fool proof way yet. I do approve all the job postings before they go out. I think it might be hard to profile job posters because a lot of them are probably going to be first time posters.
mikelbring··on Show HN: Job board designed for freelancers
That was really my intention, but I could see sysadmin and such being part of the user base. I am not sure sure on Designers, but I wouldn't decline a job that has a designer focus.
mikelbring··on Show HN: Job board designed for freelancers
Just added an early bird feature :)
mikelbring··on Show HN: Job board designed for freelancers
Thanks to feedback. I just added a "early bird" feature. Any one that has signed up or signs up over the next week or so will get a free account for a year.
mikelbring··on Show HN: Job board designed for freelancers
Yes and I sort of regret not doing that now to help with the jobs. I may go back and add that in now and see what happens.
mikelbring··on Show HN: Job board designed for freelancers
That makes sense. Marketing and engagement isn't my strong point (I am a developer), so any advice like that is absolutely helpful. My thought behind the monthly / yearly fee is, if you get one job, it's worth it indefinitely.

When you have a subscription, you can click "I am interested" and it will send an email to the post owner, and put a message on their dashboard. Then they can email you. Also, every one has a profile they can put all their information on, here is mine: https://bidpeek.com/profile/Michael

It's still really early, I only spent a few days building it and have a lot of ideas.

Edited to add: When you click "I am interested", you can also append a message to send.
