Does it need to? I am going to take the unpopular stance on this and say no... enterprise software does not need to be innovative, it just needs to work.

redhat, vmware, oracle, microsoft etc... they all deliver what their customers need, not stuff that impresses magazine editors. The software keeps steadily getting better and although they don't have every whizbang feature in the book, they get the job done... that's what matters.

Do you have a better, faster way to do backups? A solution to documentation everyone hates so much? We'll pay for it if you've got it... after someone else goes first.

The reason it's posted is probably because information on the cause of the outtage could be useful to startups. An opportunity for lessons learned...

Obviously this only applies if the outtage is a result of problem with their infrastructure or software.

I don't think this is always true... it seems to me that they have tried to reproduce it first and if they fail then they consider a buy. Google video, orkut, free411, office... etc. They also don't always buy...

You probably have to worry more about them producing a technology that obsoletes your app...

gibsonf1, i took a shot at one of your previous posts because i thought it was a little off but your site looks alot better. nice job on the improvements... it's coming together.

A swiss startup should give this a shot! They have what I think would be a unique advantage... they automatically inherit the trusted & neutral "brand" thing associated with swiss banks.

It would need to prove stable but it might be enough to give Paypal or any other fund processor (online banks even?) a real run for their money.

eastsidegringo... enough with the blog promotion. Most of your blog is not startup relevant, so take it down a notch if you can...

Thanks to everyone for all the great feedback. You all present really good arguments on the topic... I think the "best" solution for my app would be to create the temporary account converted to a registered user upon save. Like some of you mention, I will probably end up registering users at some point but I don't think what I'm offering now justifies a sign up...

I was thinking about making it very basic, no registration, user can create and save but they have to take care of tracking their own edits... bookmarks or taking the embed for a one time use. I realize it would not be all that feature rich but does it need to be?
