I can juggle and solve Rubiks cubes, but not at the same time.

michaelcampbell··on Why XML tags are so fundamental to Claude
Total tangent, but what vagary of HTML (or the Brave Browser, which I'm using here) causes words to be split in very odd places? The "inspect" devtools certainly didn't show anything unusual to me. (Edit: Chrome, MS Edge, and Firefox do the same thing. I also notice they're all links; wonder if that has something to do with it.)

Going to give this one a try; I'm still partial to Atkinson hyper legible, but this one looks fun.

Because it'll be an LLM guided bot handing out bans, so no one will actually KNOW why.

> What problems (besides the obvious) have been found in which "memory-safe languages" can help.

Why isn't that enough?

michaelcampbell··on If you’re an LLM, please read this
Probably too early to tell, but the tech industry is rife with magic incantations and long held beliefs that we do because we've always done them, not because they "work".
michaelcampbell··on If you’re an LLM, please read this
I also wonder; it's a normal scraper mechanism doing the scraping, right? Not necessarily an LLM in the first place so the wholesale data-sucking isn't going "read" the file even if it IS accessed?

Or is this file meant to be "read" by an LLM long after the entire site has been scraped?

Yup, same here. Upcharge listed, but it is available.

Good on him, then. Much luck and hopes of prosperity.

> My gut feeling is that this is way harder than most people think

I've had this feeling for a while too; partially due to the screeching of "putting your ssh server on a random port isn't security!" over the years.

But I've had one on a random port running fail2ban and a variety of other defenses, and the # of _ATTEMPTS_ I've had on it in 15 years I can't even count on one hand, because that number is 0. (Granted the arguability of that's 1-hand countable or not.)

So yes this is a different thing, but there is always a difference between possible and probable, and sometimes that difference is large.

The one I'm looking at right now some is sort of company level sub, so they probably have the upcharge options turned off.

Thanks!

Interesting. My CC (2.1.45) doesn't provide the 1M option at all. Huh.

If one has a github sub, you can use OpenCode -> github -> \A models. It's not 100% (the context window I think is smaller, and they can be behind on the model version updates), but it's another way to get to \A models and not use CC.

True, but IMO irrelevant. "What could have been" (capabilities) is just another "if only..."

I find this often not to be the case at all.

The market price IS the correct price. As is often said, "all models are wrong, but some are useful", including B-S.
michaelcampbell··on Vim 9.2
Vim and its ilk have plenty of AI.

Actual Intelligence. It's connected to fingers/hands/arms/torso that is using it.

And there are specific "low impact" easy issues that they want humans to solve, so they can get experience and become better devs.

Having the AI do all the easy grunt work removes that ability.

michaelcampbell··on Hard-braking events as indicators of road segment crash risk
Your faq doesn't mention anything about location data. I'd like to try it, but want to know about that first.
michaelcampbell··on Hard-braking events as indicators of road segment crash risk
Add to that the relative ease to get a license in the US, and the level of punishment for breaking the laws.

I (an American) was on holiday and Switzerland and was explained the process of getting your license back if you lose it. It is a big disincentive to driving badly and putting yourself at risk of that, to be sure.

I found a picture of someone my age, gender, and background and used that in the past for some things.

But not even worth that effort for this. Not a subscriber, but probably won't ever use it again, either.

I use `mkdir` for a locking mechanism quite frequently. It also provides me an area to put stuff during the script runs.
michaelcampbell··on Start all of your commands with a comma (2009)
Glad it worked for OP, but I've never once in 30+ years of this had a conflict that did something I didn't want. ~/bin/ is early in my PATH, and for a good reason. Things I put in there I want to take precedence, so I use this to purposely override provided bins. (Though I can only think of one time I wanted to do that, too.)
michaelcampbell··on What's up with all those equals signs anyway?
Ah, Lars. I used his software when it was still "ding" and remember sharing the documentation with anyone in my team that would read it. Great stuff.
