meshr··on Ask HN: I am 30yrs and never had a full time job, now suicidal. Any life advice?
Why do you care about society? You seem much smarter than them. Or do you want just to be a slave of your physiology (genes) like most of the people? Otherwise see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWbRO1rWB9M
meshr··on The Challenge of Consciousness
I never understand this ‘qualia’ problem. For me, it looks like it is not scientific at all due to occam's razor principle. Is there smth like Turning test for ‘qualia’?
meshr··on The Challenge of Consciousness
But what if the consciousness is just a notion for the systems that reach certain level of complexity, i.e. can solve the same easy problems as human brain can. I mean there is no qualitative difference between programmed robot and us, but only quantitative. So physicalism accepts your objection and go on with programming robot until it can solve Turing Test. Will you accept that the robot is conscious now? Why can’t “first-hand 'experience' of the world and itself” automatically emerge if the system is complex enough and aimed to survive?

Hard problem solving is not required to create consciousness. Humans can’t solve hard problems but they make children conscious meanwhile human children grown by animals become animals.

May be hard problems of consciousness is like describing feeling or summary of all feelings. We can feel but can’t explain. Meanwhile every our feeling has underneath chemical reactions.

meshr··on Facebook employees reportedly quit over a tool that would censor posts in China
They should help to build decentralized no-border alternative to facebook and be paid for this. Facebook is insane and all its users will sponsor worlds biggest censorship. Next step, facebook will sell censorship rights to anyone.
meshr··on Facebook Said to Create Censorship Tool to Get Back into China
What's a shame. So all facebook users will sponsor worlds biggest censorship. Next step, facebook will sell censorship rights to anyone.
meshr··on LinkedIn is now officially blocked in Russia
Roscomnadzor will prevent using Internet one day with applauding russians. For what to herds are the gifts of freedom? Pushkin
meshr··on LinkedIn is now officially blocked in Russia
LinkedIn denied to play by rules of idiots. Shame on Google etc who supports and promotes censorship by accepting the rules of censorship. Internet ends when every country will start to force everyone else to do what they think is good.
meshr··on LinkedIn is now officially blocked in Russia
Internet ends when every country will start to force everyone else to do what they think is good. In digital world physical geo-location doesn’t matter unless you want to fool someone. You can store data in Russia but give access to it to CIA. You can store data in USA but make it impossible to access by CIA.
meshr··on Stephen Hawking warns humans may have only 1,000 years left on Earth
May be because he is aimed to find out objective truth but not to make money on lie
meshr··on LinkedIn to be blocked in Russia; Google, eBay, Uber, and Booking.com have moved
No one knows. No one cares too. The gist of this action is to use censorship as a tool to make money.
meshr··on LinkedIn to be blocked in Russia; Google, eBay, Uber, and Booking.com have moved
What if someone violates 242-FZ? His website will be blocked i.e. censored. 242-FZ is about destroying the Internet.
meshr··on LinkedIn to be blocked in Russia; Google, eBay, Uber, and Booking.com have moved
Because in digital world physical geo-location doesn’t matter at all unless you want to fool someone. Google can store data in Russia but give access to it to CIA. Google can store data in USA but make it impossible to access by CIA.
meshr··on LinkedIn to be blocked in Russia; Google, eBay, Uber, and Booking.com have moved
I’m sure that now both CIA and Kremlin have access to user data in Russia. So in reality user data becomes less and less secure after such actions.
meshr··on LinkedIn to be blocked in Russia; Google, eBay, Uber, and Booking.com have moved
Does Germany block access to websites? Does it make Google to pay for datacenters in Germany to avoid being blocked (censored) in Germany? Internet ends when every country will start to force everyone else to do what they think is good.
meshr··on LinkedIn to be blocked in Russia; Google, eBay, Uber, and Booking.com have moved
It is about using censorship as a weapon to reach someone’s interests. Can’t you understand that it will kill Internet one day? LinkedIn as long as 50000 other websites are blocked in Russia now. Putin is a dictator. He never protects the interests of the people. He and his friends just make money on it and make with propaganda people to think that it is for their good. Russian police sell personal data in the black market. “recommending” is not right word for website blocking by DNS and IP What are guaranties that Google and Microsoft don’t provide user data to CIA if it is in Russia?
meshr··on LinkedIn to be blocked in Russia; Google, eBay, Uber, and Booking.com have moved
Respect to LinkedIn as they don't play by rules of idiots. Shame on Google etc who supports and promotes censorship by accepting the rules of censorship
meshr··on Bayesian Wi-Fi
Does it work for mesh networks? In ad-hoc or similar modern modes?
meshr··on Why Software Patents Are Bad, Period
Is there alternative to patent system for anyone who just want to have a prove that he was first (just in case)? Something like store patent in blockchain.
meshr··on Terrorist attack in France
The problem with the attacks like this that civilized people have enough technology to stop this from happening but don’t have enough political power to make changes. I wonder why civilized people allow this to happen again and again. The proper answer to this is giving more power to robots rather than humans. Why commercial truck can’t be stopped remotely? Why car engine continues to work after several hits? Why pilot door (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germanwings_Flight_9525) can’t be opened remotely? We need to give more power to software and make firewalls for barbarians.
meshr··on Internet Archive Never Forgets
Except for when someone’s government asks to remove content. For example, this link http://web.archive.org/web/20150618110931/http://ozpp.ru/pam... was removed from Internet Archive machine by Russian government request It worked this way: Russia blocked IA for Russians => IA removed content for everyone => Russia unblocked IA for Russians.
meshr··on Have Software Developers Given Up?
I think that we need to implement a new layer between software and users to solve this problem (like antiviruses do this nowadays but they solve very narrow problem). It should be like Wikipedia so everyone can fix bugs. There should be also smth like Wikipedia bots that automatically fix bugs.
meshr··on What is the real reason we sleep?
I have another idea why we sleep: the reason lays in physics, it happens because the sun is not shining all the day. So the living creatures had to create a mechanism to be more active while daylight. That is why all “garbage collection” activities were moved from daylight activity to the night.
meshr··on Doing Mathematics Differently
As it was mentioned earlier we can’t think about “absolute truth" in terms of math because math is appliance science. It is like a language. The root science is physics and only it owns “absolute truth", the real axioms and implication rules.
meshr··on A bot has successfully appealed $3M worth of parking tickets in the UK
Thanks for the link. Here is good article about it http://www.nature.com/news/machine-ethics-the-robot-s-dilemm... IMHO, trolley problem is too theoretical. Firstly, these binary events are far from reality based on probabilities and context (like why could this situation occur?). Secondly, the answers to those questions highly depend on the society laws. These problems are missing crucial information what punishment should you expect in both cases. If you don’t know anything how the society will treat these cases then you shouldn’t do anything (for ex., Is it allowed to act like a policeman in this society?) Thirdly it depends whether you are a donor or donee in this society (can you compensate consequences of the damage of your actions?).

I found the titles that I was looking for:Universal moral grammar: theory, evidence and the future;Moral Machines: Teaching Robots Right from Wrong

"Programs such as this one do not, at least in my humble opinion, threaten the legal profession writ large" Is there someone who has opposite opinion? Where can I read about it? I believe that in ideal world programs should make court decisions and people (like coders) should just translate real cases to universal legal language so that court-bot can make decision.
meshr··on Get HTTPS for free
And here you can pay by bitcoins https://hostigation.com/?page=SSL
meshr··on Candy Japan hit with credit card fraud
As I can see all solutions listed in this thread is to protect yourself better and let fraud happens for less protected merchants. The real solution is to fight back against fraud. All fraud attempts must be recorded in the public space, for example http://fraudrecord.com/ . The best solution is to have something like open blockchain Grossbuch for fraud. What are current best solution for FIGHTING BACK AGAINST FRAUD?
meshr··on The Bitcoin Blocksize: A Summary
I have a question, why not to solve the bitcoin issues another way: by decreasing the amount of transactions by changing the way of paying with bitcoins. I suggest using bitcoin wallets as a cash banknotes and send bitcoin private keys (i.e. the wallet itself) instead of paying from the wallet to transfer money. So everyone should have a set of bitcoin wallets with different bitcoin amounts instead of using one bitcoin wallet. This method has some advantages: instant transactions, zero fees and anonymity. The disadvantage that I can see is the necessity of development the mechanisms of having “the change”, probably specialized bitcoin fork, or it can be solved by using hybrid method: usual transaction + bitcoin wallet private keys sending. “The change” is not necessary for some types of payments: like gifts, balance replenish, or periodic payments which bitcoin has lack of support now. It’ll definitely help to decrease amount of transactions here.
