melvyn2··on NixOS 22.11 “Raccoon”
I have not used flakes at all for my NixOS server. To put it one way, why should I care?
melvyn2··on Home truths about macOS
I wonder if just maybe an update might… fix a bug?
melvyn2··on Disabling the Intel Management Engine
Oh, the irony... Remember the hardwired 'Find My' geolocation function built into the permanently-on T2 chip?
melvyn2··on 3x new books added to the Pirate Library Mirror
so are they going to contribute them back to libgen?
melvyn2··on Explaining modern server monitoring stacks for self-hosting
For my single self-hosted server (also NixOS), I use netdata, because it has all the info I need, is efficient enough while keeping a day’s worth of history as well, and most importantly has built-in alerts for services like telegram or slack.

Other stacks can do the same, but I haven’t found anything as simple to set up; netdata is just a simple service.

melvyn2··on Why Stephen Fry is arguing against political correctness (2018)
I don’t see what that has to do with what I said; your views on trans procedures don’t mean anything about op’s malformed argument.

When you have to cite trash like this, it weakens your argument considerably. Maybe cite a better source?

melvyn2··on A Deep Dive into the Residential Proxy Service ‘911’
There are plenty of good/trustworthy VPN services. They just don't advertise as much as the bad ones. I know that the VPN company I use can't abuse my connection because I don't even use their app, and can instead set up wireguard/OpenVPN connections to my liking.

Beyond the technical side, a public VPN company provides much more anonymity than using your own VPS/server, as you share an IP and traffic with other users rather than just having a second personal IP to your name.

melvyn2··on Cloudflare had a partial outage
Up on my phone (AT&T) but down on my main ISP/desktop (AT&T lightspeed). BGP issues too, maybe?
melvyn2··on Nvidia releases open-source GPU kernel modules
Reading the hash doesn’t sound like much of a flaw to me, could you elaborate or provide a link?

melvyn2··on AMD vs. Intel vs. Nvidia: How Users Are Switching
I would like to remind you of th le existence of nvidia gameworks. The fact that games are optimized for nvidia isn’t something AMD can exactly work around.
melvyn2··on Upgrade Raspberry Pi 4 with a NVMe boot drive
This part is strange: "NVMe drive — an M.2 SSD looks almost identical, but has two notches instead of one. Generally an SSD will perform to the tune of hundreds of MB/s instead of thousands."

First, both are SSDs, so I don't know what he is trying to compare. Both use M.2, but different keys from the sounds of it (the "notches").

M.2 drives can be either SATA or NVME, but it is harder to come across a SATA M.2 drive than an NVME drive these days, so I'm having trouble seeing the point.

melvyn2··on GnuPG 2.2.23
I can't seem to use minisign with git, which is my main use for gpg.
