meemo··on Show HN: The Choice – An online programming puzzle RPG
yep. i don't think i have the right background to answer this. is this based on a book or something from nerd culture?
meemo··on The GNOME developers removed it.
You can select a solid color in OS X as the background. http://i.imgur.com/oYp2j5n.png
meemo··on Real-time Latex and markdown in the cloud.
Do use pandoc to convert from markdown to pdf directly? Or some other tool.
meemo··on All American Airlines Flights Grounded, Experiencing Nationwide Computer Outage

meemo··on Create your next conference poster with LaTeX
I think you'd find that there are other people who share your values regarding quality. Eventually, you might be able to share the work of maintaining the site with these people and the site will grow more quickly. (And maybe you'll enjoy seeing some new templates appear.) Otherwise, (I think) what will happen is that you'll get tired of maintaining the site and updates will stop.

Anyway, I'm glad your site exists and I appreciate your work.

meemo··on Create your next conference poster with LaTeX
If you've already written a paper in LaTeX, it's easy to copy and paste the equations, diagrams, bibliographies, etc. And they'll look good (especially equations, and also diagrams if you've used something like TikZ.)
meemo··on Introducing SourceTree for Windows – a free desktop client for Git
I liked the previous icon set better. I don't see why there's a sudden aversion to color among developers. And why shapes have to be simplified.
meemo··on Octave for Android
begs the question -> raises the question
meemo··on Color schemes for Sublime Text 2 and Textmate
It seems to be not working at the moment.

"An error occurred in the application and your page could not be served. Please try again in a few moments."

meemo··on Show HN: HoRNDIS - an Android USB tethering driver for Mac OS X
It's a 2007 MacBook, with a Core 2 Duo processor. I had been under the impression that it was running a 64-bit kernel. But it seems I was wrong. I believe that since Lion most Macs boot with a 64-bit kernel. I guess this model was left out.
meemo··on Show HN: HoRNDIS - an Android USB tethering driver for Mac OS X
On OS X 10.7.5 with a Nexus S running Android 4.1.2 I get the following in kernel.log:

    11/15/12 9:55:40.019 AM com.apple.kextd: Can't load /System/Library/Extensions/HoRNDIS.kext - no code for running kernel's architecture.
11/15/12 9:55:40.022 AM com.apple.kextd: Load com.joshuawise.kexts.HoRNDIS failed; removing personalities from kernel.
Great project, btw. Can't wait to try it on another phone/computer and get it working.
meemo··on Introducing the Redesigned Bitbucket
What if you signed up with your personal account? Is there a way to upgrade by changing your email address to an *.edu email address?
meemo··on Entertainment Weekly puts smartphone in 1000 magazines
So can I just go to let's say Barnes and Noble and pick one of these up?
meemo··on The Importance of Right-Left-Up-Down Standards in Product Design
Also, I've never paid any attention to the cut/copy/paste icons on any platform before. I've always use keyboard shortcuts. So I'm never sure if I'm hitting the right one.
meemo··on Githug - an interactive way to learn how to use git
I can't quite get past level 4: "Set up your git name and email, this is important so that your commits can be identified"

I had already set these up in my global config, but I ran the following commands anyway: git config user.name "My Name"; git config user.email "my_name@myemail.com"

Looking at the code, it seems that the program is supposed to ask me for my name and email, but it never did.

meemo··on A fresh new Dropbox on the web
On my public folders that are visible to everyone there's a button labeled "Add to my Dropbox." If someone were to click this button would they get read-only access to that folder?
meemo··on Afraid of Your Child's Math Textbook? You Should Be.
I was the only person my cousin could turn to for help when he was taking math in high school. When he asked me for help, my first instinct was to help him find the relevant information in his textbook. But the textbook wasn't helpful at all. First, he was often working with things that weren't indexed; even though his homework was from the textbook's supplemental materials. Then, the text was hard to understand. It just wasn't written very well. Finally, the whole thing was just too busy, with many different fonts, all sorts of margin notes, many footnotes, and colored boxes surrounding text. This made finding information harder and just gave me a headache.
meemo··on Why we created Julia - new language for fresh approach to technical computing
I hope this really takes off. Though, for it to really take off it needs a large ecosystem. The fact that the source is hosted on Github is a good start.
meemo··on There's no + symbol on the new tab icon in Chrome 17
That button never looked right to me, but this looks worse. I even reinstalled Chrome. This makes me wonder about how much thought and attention they give to UI details.
meemo··on GUM: A better CLI for Git
I like the instructions in git status. I usually follow them when I'm not sure of what to do.
meemo··on Winamp for Mac
They got the basics right. It's a great start.
meemo··on Microsoft’s vision of the mobile future is astounding
As always, the devil is in the details. Everything looks so smooth and fluid, but achieving that is definitely not easy and probably impossible.
meemo··on Netflix Splits DVD And Streaming Businesses
The real question to ask is: Is this good for customers? It doesn't matter if the goals of the two businesses are different. What matters is how it affects customers. Do customers consider the services as separate entities or as two parts of the same whole? I think they'll lose a few customers who like both services, but feel awkward about dealing with two companies now instead of one (like me).
meemo··on Think Twice Before Installing Any Chrome Extension
Safari extensions too. I installed Dictionary by Slice Factory. Then, when I was shopping on Amazon, I got a huge in-browser pop-up asking to help me find products with the lowest price. They do have an opt-out feature, but it was very disconcerting since initially I had no idea where this came from.
meemo··on Chevy Volt: Is This Our Future?
I'd like to see the reviewers electricity bill.
meemo··on Chevy Volt: Is This Our Future?
If you're worried about range, then there's a old-fashioned gas tank in there to extend the range.
meemo··on OS X – Safe, yet horribly insecure
If they did this (even as just an option), then there'd be an uproar about how they're incrementally making os x a completely closed system (a walled garden).
meemo··on Smartwatch running Android - i'mWatch
Complete vaporware and fiction. They don't have photos of anything that's real and not a mockup.
meemo··on Ask HN: Is an SSD worth an upgrade for the 2011 MBPs?
The first question is very flawed. Nobody can answer how much something is worth to you.
