mdergosits··on What to do when employees quit
As good as slack is for communicating I don't think it should be used as a "knowledge" store. At a previous employer I found that commit messages were a great way to store information. Maybe commit messages aren't as great for question and answers, but searching slack doesn't seem very intuitive.

Idea: A slack bot that searches for questions and answers and creates a wiki out of the scraped information.

mdergosits··on Today's world is amd64, armv7, and soon aarch64
I hope for RISC-V to become popular. It has the potential to be a great open source ISA that anyone can use and extend.
mdergosits··on Client-Side Encryption: The Right Security Model for the Cloud
Client side encryption is definitely the way to go, soon enough computation will become possible on the encrypted data. Maybe there will be homomorphically encrypted virtual machines/ containers.
mdergosits··on How old are you based on your reactions?
I may be off here but, I found that when I had the window fullscreen the graphics were rendering very slowly and my reaction times were very slow. I then made the window smaller and the graphics were much smoother time and my reaction times were much better.

> Refresh page to play again

This was very infuriating. The server seemed to be under load and took several minutes to load. I was not going to wait for it load again to retry the simulation.

mdergosits··on After Growing to 50 People, We’re Ditching the Office Completely
> Yes, there were bunk beds in the office. And they got a lot of use!

Glad they got rid of the office, maybe it will allow people to have a better work life balance.

mdergosits··on The Click Modular Router Project
We ran it on access points, switches, and a firewalls. We found it was pretty good to a certain extent, but was hard to scale with multiple cores.
mdergosits··on The Click Modular Router Project
I used click in production. It was a great piece of software. It allowed us to do packet processing and routing in the linux kernel with high level C++ code. It also had a great "standard library" for packet routing primitives.
mdergosits··on Thimble – An online code editor
At my university, some courses have started making virtual machines for students with all of the necessary software. This also turns out to be a problem because installing virtualbox or VMWare on a variety of laptops can be difficult for the course staff.
