mcritz··on Translation of Carrier IQ's Media Release
Are you defending CarrierIQ?
mcritz··on Translation of Carrier IQ's Media Release
Which disingenuous press release?
mcritz··on Secret app on millions of phones logs key taps
Remember when people were up in arms about how much location data iPhones stored locally?

This is 1000 times worse.

mcritz··on Your images are a virus. They are everywhere on the Internet
You should try the magical image finder: tineye.com
mcritz··on Android App Revenue Only 7% of iOS Revenue? Not So Fast
The context of the two platforms is very telling.

You buy an iPhone in a crystal palace.

You buy an Android phone from a "Wireless Store" between a bodega and a paycheck loan store.

The technology is democratized, but the audience varies.

mcritz··on Gassée: Thank God Apple chose NeXT over my BeOS
I keep hearing that Apple acquired NeXT over Be because of every reason aside from quality of the technology.

Was BeOS worse than NeXTSTEP?

mcritz··on Ask HN: Someone else made a "Pro" version of my app. What can I do about it?
Looks like you could add fraud to any list of legal action.
mcritz··on I wrote BozoCrack to show why plain MD5 is a horrible way to hash passwords.
I dub this “shameware” and declare it awesome.
mcritz··on Google threatens to cut ties with Chamber of Commerce over Protect-IP lobbying
David,

The chamber could care less about innovative businesses. Such businesses are part of their constituency.

They take a shit on consumers. Real people are a group for whom they could not care less.

I was aware of the phrasing and using it to make my point.

Sincerely, Michael

mcritz··on Google threatens to cut ties with Chamber of Commerce over Protect-IP lobbying
I think the chamber of commerce could care less. They're a force of evil against consumers. If they had it their way there'd still be lead paint on your walls, seatbelts would be optional, and the ingredients of your food would be a mystery.
mcritz··on Google threatens to cut ties with Chamber of Commerce over Protect-IP lobbying
In particular, CEA members are up in arms over so-called private right of action provisions in the bills that would allow trademark and copyrights holders to seek court orders requiring ad networks and payment processors to cut off business with an allegedly infringing site.

Tricky territory. It's a fight between content providers versus Google.

mcritz··on Why the iPhone 5 never arrived
The author's superfluous use of words written in all capital letters and liberal use of exclamation points speaks volumes towards his credibility.
mcritz··on I want to pay for TextMate 2
TextMate 2.0 will be free. Maybe TextMate 2.0.1 will cost $79. Maybe if enough people support TextMate 2.0 by paying for it, the rest of the freeloaders will get 2.0.1 for free, as well.
mcritz··on Ask HN: OSX App Developer
Google for "Cocoaheads". If you live in San Francisco, hang out at NSCoders.

Go to hackathons, often you'll meet Objective-C devs.

Find an indie Mac developer whose products you like and pitch the idea to him or her.

mcritz··on If this then that
That’s really hot! Thanks for the link. I’m forwarding it to my girlfriend.
mcritz··on HTC Sues Apple Using Patents Obtained From Google Last Week
It'd be nice to see the end of commoditized patent holding. E.g. Only the creators of a technology can benefit from the patent process. The "proxied from a third party to sue a second party" without any original innovation is a pathetic puppet show.

Create or die.

mcritz··on If this then that
I've been using ifttt to:

* Scour Craigslist for an apartment in San Francisco

* Put indeed.com job searches for "UI Design San Francisco" into Evernote

* Monitor airline fares for the cheapest time to buy a one-way ticket from BOS to SFO

* Text me when the temperature in zip code 94103 rises above 68 to remind myself to get out and enjoy my new city.

THANKS IFTTT! I couldn't have done it without you!

mcritz··on Linux is now hosted on GitHub
Days like today make me consider building from source. Until I sober up, anyway.
mcritz··on Ask HN: Any good Macbook Air alternatives?
It means they're commodity hardware. They're made of plastic. They're poorly designed, cheaply made, and the general goal is to be almost as good as a MacBook Air.

Sometimes second place isn't good enough.

mcritz··on "A sort of PC": how Windows 8 will invade tablets (and why it might work)
Windows 8 tablets (that's a mouthful) need to compete with iPad in battery life and physical weight more so than UI or developer interest.
mcritz··on Dear procrastinator
I'll finish reading this article later.
mcritz··on Foxconn to replace workers with 1 million robots in 3 years
As soon as AI can accurately express the human condition as well as Bob Dylan I'll be worried. Meanwhile, we've got this: http://video.nytimes.com/video/2010/06/24/science/1247468035...
mcritz··on Judge Denies Apple Request To Stop Amazon From Using "App Store"
She might Google for "Angry Birds App Store Download" and hit the second link.
mcritz··on What We Lose With the End of the Shuttle Program
If STS-135 doesn't catch fire, then that's a 1.48% mortality rate.
mcritz··on Judge Denies Apple Request To Stop Amazon From Using "App Store"
I think this ambiguity of terms is bad for consumers. My mom might buy Apps through the Amazon "App Store" and expect it to run on her iPhone. I think Amazon is coat-tailing on Apple's branding in a deliberate attempt to create a false sense of equivalency.
mcritz··on Microsoft wants Samsung to pay it $15 for each Android handset
No. They sign a contract that probably covers that unlikely outcome.
mcritz··on Microsoft wants Samsung to pay it $15 for each Android handset
Samsung should go to court with them

What happens if a judge rules in favor of a Microsoft injunction against selling Samsung-made Android phones? The trial could last years—or decades—and the whole time Samsung couldn't sell it's phones in the US.

mcritz··on Apple servers hacked by Anonymous
I think I recognize the URL.

Isn't this a third-party server responsible for those "how was your shopping experience today" pop-ups?

mcritz··on Thorium nuclear reactors: a possible solution of the energy crisis? (video)
Thus video just gave me something to research for the next few days.
