maxbaines··on Ask HN: Are there any good poverty simulator games?
For sure worth a play, something about it really touched me. Bleak.
maxbaines··on Tesla has built their own ERP system
Have a link?
maxbaines··on RAD Basic – Compatible with Visual Basic 6 projects
For me boilerplate names is an issue for whatever object orientated language you choose, unless you correct it in the dev cycle.
maxbaines··on When I tell the Windows Terminal team something is simple, I am "misguided"
Vice versa is fine and correct, however I have experienced a few open source Microsoft teams in the past couple of years with a similar opinion to issues and contributions who are clearly hiding behind the brand (and its direction), it also negatively effects my opinion of Microsoft.
maxbaines··on Keycloak: Open-Source Identity and Access Management
For me this is all kind of opaque, apart from a theme put into a folder and some Environment Variables set i don't touch anything in Keycloak, first had no requirement to consider it and second very likely would be doing something maybe not best practice i.e oidc, oauth based.

Its the only java app we run in stack, but doesn't matter to me in Docker and within Windows we run a portable java from a subfolder of keycloak so not System wide in Path

maxbaines··on Keycloak: Open-Source Identity and Access Management
Using Keycloak for all authentication both in the cloud under Linux and within Windows Enterprise Environments. Use it for SSO for Node-RED, Grafana, Aspnet & VueJS apps. Was fairly easy to move from Auth0.
maxbaines··on Ask HN: Why don't podcast apps fix speech impediments (e.g., lisps) using AI?
Why would they? Apart from time spent it has no effect on me listening to someone with a speech disorder or impairment.
maxbaines··on Tools we use to make our game satisfactory [video]
Love this game so perhaps a little biased, both community managers Jace and Snoot we're devs and make some great content about the development and decisions of the game. I really enjoy there content.
maxbaines··on I Am Seriously Considering Going Back to Desktop Computers (2020)
Thanks, we're getting closer, that's interesting as it has power pass through. Now to find something similar with a longer lead so I can tuck it away, to Amazon I go..
maxbaines··on I Am Seriously Considering Going Back to Desktop Computers (2020)
As above I am trying to avoid multiple cable's in the laptop, be ideal to have just one USB C for HDMI and PD, A laptop with a load of cables in it for me defeats the object, at that point I may as well use a Desktop.
maxbaines··on I Am Seriously Considering Going Back to Desktop Computers (2020)
Eek £250 for the MS one https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/d/surface-dock-2/8qd908364sg...
maxbaines··on I Am Seriously Considering Going Back to Desktop Computers (2020)
Interesting for some reason did not consider a dock, that one looks great but the Surface Laptop only has one USB C port. Will take a look at the MS version though thanks.
maxbaines··on I Am Seriously Considering Going Back to Desktop Computers (2020)
I should have been clearer, it would be really nice to just have one single USB C lead from my laptop to a monitor for video and PD. Overall I am happy with USB C. Having a laptop with many cable's connected for me defeats the object hence me looking at desktops.
maxbaines··on I Am Seriously Considering Going Back to Desktop Computers (2020)
Also thinking the same, looking for a monitor for my Surface Laptop 3 (Running Linux) and realising the lack of HDMI port really makes this a challenge USB C for a monitor lacks options currently, so am looking at dongle hell.
maxbaines··on [dead]
Looks to be an April Fools. According to last sentence in last paragraph
maxbaines··on Whatever happened to QuickTime?
Yes really.
maxbaines··on Google has erased the 45th president of the United States
For balance Volodymyr Zelenskyy also gets a response.
maxbaines··on Google has erased the 45th president of the United States
Can confirm the same in the UK, interestingly Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un get a response.
maxbaines··on Whatever happened to QuickTime?
Only now did I realise QuickTime was made by Apple.
maxbaines··on I let a baby bird nest in my hair for 84 days
Also the vast majority of birds do not live or sleep in the nests they make, the nests are for chicks.

maxbaines··on Fuck
Every other swear word I could think of also has a page?
maxbaines··on Enterprise AR will be dominated by Apple and Magic Leap
At the minute its dominated by HoloLens
maxbaines··on CSS's !important was added because of laws about font size for some text
In-line css takes priority.
maxbaines··on Semiconductors are more than just processors and GPUs
That's fun and super interesting, going to read more on it.
maxbaines··on Fire Information for Resource Management System
Pretty cool here's what is does -

NASA's Fire Information for Resource Management System (FIRMS) distributes Near Real-Time (NRT) fire/thermal anomaly data within 3 hours of satellite observation from NASA's Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard the Terra and Aqua satellites and NASA's Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) aboard the joint NASA/NOAA Suomi National Polar orbiting Partnership (Suomi NPP) and NOAA-20 satellites.

Interesting looking at the UK, i wondered what the flags were, when I zoomed to an area in south Wales i know of, its a massive industrial area making steel called Port Talbot

maxbaines··on Show HN: An app to quickly turn boring screenshots into beautiful images
Useful tool, thanks.
maxbaines··on Transforming cities with superblocks
Reminds me of Arcology buildings in Sim City 2000 https://simcity.fandom.com/wiki/Arcology
maxbaines··on Explain the first 10 lines of Twitter's source code to me
Why the first line of Twitter, why not Facebook.com or Google.com actually I just looked there all very different given meta tags for each company, i.e Facebook does not use twitter meta tags from what i could see neither does the google home page, although i guess there search does.
maxbaines··on An enhancement request I submitted to Bugzilla 15 years ago was just closed
I found this amusing too. If anything great to see mozilla keep issues active for so long.
maxbaines··on Amazon Fire TV Source Code
This lead me to search source code, interesting results -
