matthewphiong··on Ask HN: what do the startups use for their websites?
This type of layout is the landing page for the startup (product). It's similar across many startups because it works.

As noted by RRW here http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/microsoft_introduces_so...

It works on your iPad/Phone/Pod too!

matthewphiong··on Ask HN: What can I use to power two form fields on landing page?
No limit. You can check out the pricing here: http://www.campaignmonitor.com/pricing/

They charge you 1 cent per email + a fee of $5 each time you send. Simple.

matthewphiong··on Ask HN: Where do you host your webapp?
I'm a Rackspace Cloud customer until I found this post. After reading much of the comments, mostly +1 to Linode, I decided to give it a try.

The service is superb, instant activation and the speed made me jump ship.

matthewphiong··on Ask HN: What can I use to power two form fields on landing page?
I'm in the process of creating a landing page as well for my web app (Facebook game). Along the way I've done a quick research on newsletter services like MailChimp, Campaign Monitor & Newsberry.

After playing around with them I found that Campaign Monitor best suits me. My ranking is Campaign Monitor > Newsberry > MailChimp.

matthewphiong··on Ask HN: Startup with same name as mine, what should I do?
I think the best is to rebrand your product/service since you don't have any users, yet. That's the easiest way out to avoid any legal battle/cost.
