matt_oriordan··on IO domain DNS failure
This is still affecting us. Our customers on Heroku seem to be the worst affected as Heroku is unable to resolve the DNS
matt_oriordan··on Four billion messages an hour: benchmarking Deepstream throughput
I'm interested to know what happens when there is a failure or a deployment? Having static servers handling load is only part of the problem in our experience. The true complexity and scalability of a system comes when you consider how it copes under load with unexpected failures (network, hardware), but more importantly expected maintenance such as regular deploys, scaling up and scaling down events. Do you have any metrics for that? Those are the problems we've been focussing most of our energy on at Ably (https://www.ably.io), not just message per second rates which is often not really the problem.

matt_oriordan··on Don't depend on JavaScript to render your page
Looks like you shouldn't depend on a server or TCP/IP either to render a page given the website is down ;)

matt_oriordan··on New EBS (AWS) volume type: General Purpose (SSD)
See https://forums.aws.amazon.com/thread.jspa?threadID=154543&ts.... For some bizarre reason the new SSD types are not supported with Autoscaling groups.
matt_oriordan··on Ask HN: Do you have a side project you want to sell?
http://easybacklog.com is a backlog management tool. It is fundamentally different to many existing tools such as Pivotal or Sprintly in that its focus is to provide scrum masters and product owners with a tool to estimate, and manage the delivery of a project as opposed to the ongoing endless development of a business. This type of workflow is needed for freelancers and agencies who are typically trying to deliver a service at a fixed cost or fixed scope. Easybacklog provides tools to compare the backlog at points in time and thus renegotiate at each sprint with the client in regards to scope or price.

I have thousands of active users and have asked many of them whether they would be willing to pay, and they are. Unfortunately I just don't have the time now or for the foreseeable future to add a few highly requested features and billing systems for the product. This is an ideal product for someone to pick up, add a few of the really needed features, and start charging existing happy customers.

Get in touch with http://mattheworiordan.com if this interests anyone who has some time to develop a Rails / Backbone application, and wants to create a revenue stream for themselves very quickly.
