matt-attack··on iPhone Air
It’s clear that super thinness is a technology imperative necessary to get Foldable IPhones. In order to fold, you first must solve thinness (since the final decide will be 2x once folded).

Apple focusing on thinness is proof to me a foldable phone is next.

matt-attack··on Kenvue stock drops on report RFK Jr will link autism to Tylenol during pregnancy
Well diagnosing autism is incredibly subjective anyway. It’s not like a broken arm.
matt-attack··on Will Smith's concert crowds are real, but AI is blurring the lines
I totally disagree. If you read my statement I specifically stated that 24 was not designed to be impressionism. It was just a happy accident that it worked out that way. We've since tried all sorts of other frame-rates. Slower is to studdery, faster removes the impressionism and starts biasing towards realism. Once you get to 72fps or higher, it's essentially pure reality, and your brain knows it.

Look, detailed photos can be art. Not saying that HFR cannot be art, but we'd all agree that realism and impressionism are simply different forms of art. And often times those who like one, doesn't like the other.

So you have to accept that those are find the appeal of 24fps due to its "different than reality" look, they might easily find HFR material to be "boring and hyper real" in the same way I might look at a crystal clear photo of Paris and think the same, whereas a Monet impression of it, is way more appealing.

matt-attack··on Will Smith's concert crowds are real, but AI is blurring the lines
Your premise to lower (temporal) detail his automatically worse is a naïve view. I’m certain you’re aware that impressionism is a valid, quite successful form of art. Do you think there are any critics who say a Monet painting would be far better if it, just had more detail? Oh if only Van Gough used a smaller brush his paintings would have been so much better! It needs “more k!”.

Film making at 24fps (while originally selected for pragmatic reasons having to do with film cost and sound fidelity) turned out to be a happy accident. It produces an Impressionistic Effect entirely similar to a money painting. 24fps is absolutely not reality. Our brains know it too. The same way they know that those giant brush strokes in a Van Gough painting are also NOT REALITY. Turns out our brains like to be toyed with. Art is just always “trying to document precisely what our senses would have experienced if we were there”.

That is just a false premise and one they misunderstands art in general.

You cannot be more wrong.

Entering the United States without proper documentation, such as a passport or visa, is considered a federal crime under 8 U.S.C. § 1325. This statute criminalizes unauthorized entry, including entering at unauthorized times or places, evading inspection, or misrepresentation to gain entry.

I would love to understand if you truly believed that no such federal statute exists, or we’re just intentionally spreading misinformation.

It’s not ICE’s opinion about who is illegal, it’s congress’s. Didn’t they create the immigration laws that are on the books? I can never understand why people seem to blame the enforcement agencies for the laws they are enforcing.

But I agree with the sentiment that they are selecting the easiest targets.

Yes, this right here. I’ve had SRE‘s send me links that would be literally impossible to find if I did not bookmark them. Want to authenticate to our corporate AWS accounts using our corporate SSO? Here s my obscure link.

matt-attack··on Wild pigs' flesh turning neon blue in California
If something “appears” as a color then that’s the color it IS.

The reason anything is the color it is is because that’s how it appears.

Am I missing something?

It’s like saying, “oh the sky is only blue because it scatters blue light”. Well then the sky is blue. Full stop.

“Red paint is only red because it happens to absorb certain other color spectrums leaving mostly red light”. Ok then it’s red.

matt-attack··on Why Exercise Is a Miracle Drug
I walk for 1hr on a treadmill set to 4mph and 4deg incline. My heart rate gets up to 150 bpm by the end.

Used to run but was always getting sore knees. Now I walk and it’s very consistent.

matt-attack··on Cyberdeck – Pi Zero 2 W with Xbox 360 Chatpad
Would love it if someone could point me to a cyber deck with the smallest usable keyboard that’s actually designed for touch typing (not thumbs as is this one). Love the idea, but could not imagine being productive in Linux with thumbs.
matt-attack··on Air Force unit suspends use of Sig Sauer pistol after shooting death of airman
I don’t “identify” as a petite comparatively weak individual, it’s just a physical fact. I’m not ashamed that I’m weaker than most men. I fail to see where “identify politics” entered into my post.
matt-attack··on Air Force unit suspends use of Sig Sauer pistol after shooting death of airman
The absence of external manually activated safeties is really orthogonal to whether it’s striker fired or external hammer fired. There are countless guns that have external hammers with traditional double action or single action modes, but still lack an external safety. This is true of many many SIG and HK models.
matt-attack··on Air Force unit suspends use of Sig Sauer pistol after shooting death of airman
Great so us petite women are back to having a natural disadvantage to would be attackers. My gun is an equalizer. Doesn’t guarantee me safety but when I’m on that empty subway car late at night and a large aggressor enters the car, I’m at least on equal footing.

Those who wish to disarm us women are doing so from a position of luxury. Where you’re never felt what it’s like to be completely at the mercy of those drastically bigger and stronger than you. Or perhaps you come from the luxurious position where rapes don’t occur by large unarmed men.

Either way you’re not a friend of women’s rights.

matt-attack··on Apple's Liquid Glass: When Aesthetics Beat Function
I wholeheartedly agree. There are two great examples of this in the latest iOS beta:

In Safari, there used to be a button at the low right to reveal all the open tabs, allow, allowing you to close the current tab, or any other others using just two taps. Now you have to hit a “…” button, followed by ”all tabs”.

Also, I noticed in the podcast app there used to be a skip 15 seconds button always available at the lower right when content started playing. Perfect for avoiding those obnoxious loud ads at the very first sample of audio. Now it’s two clicks away. Incredibly frustrating.

I agree. This article from The Atlantic is a perfect example. Read the prompts the author used. It’s like he went through effort to try to get it say something bad. And when the model called him out he just kept trying harder.

The responses seemed perfectly reasonable giving the line of questioning.

matt-attack··on Only on Nantucket: The Curious Case of the "Stolen" Mercedes
I live on a popular tourist island in puget sound and leave my Lexus SUV unlocked with the key in it wherever I go on the island. Groceries, downtown getting coffee, etc.

I never lock my front door except when I go to bed, and often leave the garage door open when I’m gone.

It’s quite a nice feeling.

matt-attack··on 1000 Days Without Drinking
I’m a casual drinker. Enjoy nice wine with a nice meal, am repulsed by beer, fix myself cocktails maybe a few times a week. Never drink to being drunk but certainly get buzzed off of two glasses of cab.

Anyone know if I have a risk of becoming an alcoholic? I’m 50 and never really started drinking until my late 20s.

What should one look out for?
