Brazilian hobbyist programmer. I mostly do my own thing but I've contributed to some free and open source projects.

I created the lone programming language, a lisp for Linux:

I can, and I do.

More like an ad for trillion dollar corporations. Not in the business of giving those out for free.

Attribution also helps people who want to judge others for using AI. Not even slightly interested in enabling any form of prejudice and stigma against myself. Even the markdown files that agents use don't go into my master branches anymore.

> people who want to use Arch Linux but have it configured the way DHH does

Then they don't actually want to use Arch Linux.

The Arch Linux way is to read the excellent wiki documentation, learn about all the choices available, and then make all of those choices so the system is configured the user's way instead of some celebrity's way.

A quality based filter. Excellent.

Absolutely.

Thanks, Debian!

I sure as hell hope so. I want to point these models at my own computers and harden everything I own.

The insufferable gatekeeping of the US companies is actively contributing to computer insecurity at this point.

matheusmoreira··on U.S. sanctions against the A/I Collective
It's a politico-technological arms race. Governments make laws, we make technology that gets around the laws. Governments must increase their tyranny just to maintain the same level of control they had before. The result is either an uncontrollable population, or a totalitarian state.

I always hoped we'd find some sort of equilibrium. A state where governments learn to tolerate some crime because fully policing them would require crossing serious lines. It's becoming increasingly clear though that governments have no limits. There is no cost they are unwilling to pay in the name of maintaining their own power.

X won't even let me register an account without downloading the stupid app. Then I download it and it just says something isn't right and refuses to let me register the account anyway. Probably thinks I'm a bot.

It's probably better this way. Hopefully bots will kill off social media before even more countries decide to ban it.

matheusmoreira··on Luanti removed from Google Play due to baseless AI copyright notice
All rights should be inalienable, simply because if they are not then all corporations will put "you waive all your rights" into their standard legal boilerplate.

The consequences do not matter. Voiding regional distribution agreements is a small price to pay for actually having rights.

matheusmoreira··on Decompiling a Nintendo 64 game in 84 days
I just grabbed my laptop's BIOS packages and told Claude and now Sol to statically analyze them. By now it's at around 80% done. Some stuff needs hardware validation, but the AIs were quite capable of doing most of the grueling work on their own. I'm having them reduce the problem as much as possible so I only have to deal with the hardware verification.

I'll also ask the AI to reverse engineer the LattePanda Mu BIOS later since I want to use the Mu on my handheld cyberdeck project. Nearly out of usage for the week, sadly. Wish Tibo would push his reset button yet again.

matheusmoreira··on Doctors are finally learning to manage antidepressant withdrawal
> I liken SSRIs to carpet bombing

It's like inserting objects into the body's event loop and hoping it produces the desired effects as it circulates, only to find that everything reacts to the event, not just the parts we want.

matheusmoreira··on Doctors are finally learning to manage antidepressant withdrawal
TLDR: Rate is individualized and determined by the patient's tolerance. If symptoms appear, maintain or increase dose to stabilize, then try reducing again later. Use liquid medication for more granular dosing.

Doctors aren't "finally learning" how to manage withdrawals. This is essentially the common sense algorithm, and I'm pretty annoyed that they wrote this whole ass article just for that.

matheusmoreira··on Decompiling a Nintendo 64 game in 84 days
Loving this trend too.

It inspired me to use AI to decompile my favorite games as well, mostly Mega Man Battle Network games from my childhood. I'm not going to make it in 84 days though. I insist on understanding the game and documenting it myself instead of just having the AI do it all for me on autopilot.

As slow as that is, it's already led to some awesome moments. AI built a literal synthesizer that played back music straight out of the ROM. Mapped out all of the music that way. It was incredible.

Have neen reverse engineering my laptop's BIOS as well. AI is fully in charge of that one, and it's nearly done. Hopefully soon I'll have drivers and perhaps even coreboot.

> since you aren't the OS

Says who? You make it sound like there's some authority out there assigning these numbers. It's not like GNU had to go out there and beg them for it. They just did it, and the world just had to cope.

Also, I'm building lone directly on top of the Linux kernel. That absolutely makes me the "operating system", in the GNU and POSIX sense. Lone/Linux, if you will. The idea is to take this far enough to boot Linux into a custom lisp userspace.

Nothing wrong with practical steps. Just because I know how to do something, doesn't mean I'm actually going to do it.

I see. I'm never going to get into TAC then. OpenAI servers return 403 cyber_verification_precheck_failed. They don't even bother verifying me.

matheusmoreira··on Mold: A Massively Parallel Linker
Mold's definitely innovating.

I use mold a lot for code embedding in my lisp. I needed extra null PHT entries in the ELF so I could easily patch in custom segments into the interpreter after the link was done.

GNU pretty much ignored the feature request and LLVM probably never even saw the issue, but Rui shipped the --spare-program-headers feature pretty much immediately after I requested it and it immediately restored my sanity.

https://www.matheusmoreira.com/articles/self-contained-lone-...

Current version of my patcher supports ld and lld, but it has to move the PHT to the end of the file in order to append the new segments. Mold is still the only way to avoid the ugly hole where the PHT used to be.
