marrone··on "I never saved anything for the swim back"
I've seen it actually, and also love that one. Despite Arnold coming off as a cocky ass, he definitely does show his determination when he decides to not go home for his dad's funeral as it would interrupt his training before the event (I think it was his dad's funeral anyways, can't quite remember)

so are you still working as an entrepreneur or not?
marrone··on Ask: OK, I've got my Web 2.0 website. How do I promote it?
hey congrats man, it works quite well. I like the concept. You should see if you could get this incorporated into opensource forum software and the like. Most of these pieces of software have user preferences, one of which could be to have your hotlinking turned on by default. I think forums are a good place to start since it is a basically large amounts of text, almost none of which would be linked properly, lending itself well to your tool
marrone··on Yahoo Research: Microsearch (*Not the recently announced Searchmonkey platform*)
cool
marrone··on Ask: where to find a part time programming job?
You should never do that. Either tell them before hand, or only apply for part-time jobs.

You can try these for part-time work

http://jobs.smashingmagazine.com/freelance/programming

or you might find some short work in the site point marketplace http://marketplace.sitepoint.com/

marrone··on The First Rule of Programming: It's Always Your Fault
Another similar rule I like to follow is that if a user of your site cant figure out how to do something, it is your fault not theirs

marrone··on What’s The Next PHP Stack?
I'm more interested in his points on the server component of things, comparing Mongrel for Ruby and also mentioning nginx.

I dont have any experience with nginx but have heard good things. What are your guys' thoughts?

marrone··on My create-your-own-social-news-site startup is live. Feedback appreciated.
Very nice, well done, I have to agree. Reminds me of Basecamp.

Was very easy to get started that is for sure

marrone··on GenerateData.com: Ever needed custom formatted sample / test data, like, bad?

nice, I love last.fm for this exact reason. I use that site the way you guys are promoting this one. Skip a song or say you like it and eventually it learns what to recommend. I will keep my eye on this one
marrone··on Run Windows Apps Seamlessly Inside Linux
Im no networking expert, but just modifying the window hosts file to point my named virtual hosts to 10.0.2.2 achieves exactly what I am after: the ability to edit my files using VIM in Ubuntu, and see the changes take effect immediately Windows side.

I didnt got the 'seamless' route suggested in the article, instead I only went as far as installing the GuestAdditions which solved a few minor nitpicks, and everything is perfect now.

marrone··on Run Windows Apps Seamlessly Inside Linux
It is basically very similar to Parallels for Mac though I am running it on Ubuntu, and it is free. It works quite well.

I use it solely for web developement and testing exlporer and other browsers on windows, and was actually able to get Windows to access my lamp server running locally on Ubuntu by using NAT and modifying the hosts file to point my named virtual hosts to 10.0.2.2.

So if anyone has being dual-booting for the same purpose, or using VMware, this is an excellent alternative.

marrone··on Get Back your Screen Space: Maximize Firefox Viewing Area
Man, I was just thinking how my screen was really cramped in FF, this article had a few good pointers.
marrone··on Founders aren't programmers = doomed ?
The guy from the "4-hour work week" book advocates outsourcing everything you do. I wouldn't say your chances are out the window, but it would depend on what your application is. If you have a vision that can be completely laid out without getting into technical details, then you are probably ok I would guess. Whereas if your business is the technology itself, it my be harder.
marrone··on Lessons learned from improving Google Code web site performance
Having recently worked at Yahoo as a front-end engineer, I can say that those rules actually are quite good.

For those who haven't seen it yet, the list referred to (put together by Souders and his performance team) can be found at:

http://developer.yahoo.com/performance/rules.html

marrone··on Asking for Feedback on Our Startup: Coordinatr.com
My first impressions of the site were good. I like the design. I found it funny that one of the first pages I hit was the FAQ where you downplayed the design.

Anyways, the ui looks and works pretty slick. My only complaint was that when my form submission failed the error message was kind of small and initially below the fold, with no error indications above the fold. Otherwise I thought the site was really well done.

marrone··on Getting Real
Awesome (short) read on the 37Signals team's philosophies.
marrone··on New Ways to Pay
Summary:

30 percent of the top 100 internet retailers offer a form of alternative payment. Alternative payment methods made up 14 percent of online purchases in 2007 and is expected to grow to 30 percent by 2012.

I have a question: How many forms of pay becomes too many (if too many is even possible)?
