marmot777··on FragAttacks: new security vulnerabilities that affect wi-fi devices
Tinfoil hats are the joke. Tinfoil itself isn’t that funny. :-)
marmot777··on Show HN: Remake – Build web apps with HTML
Do you think this service would be fun for kids 8 or 9 years old who are tech savvy (e.g., can create Minecraft mods)?
marmot777··on Show HN: Learn Python the Right Way – free introduction to Python book
You make some strong points but I think the idea is if someone starts by diving right into code they’ll get to the point where they’ll feel inspired to deal with setting up an environment. Someone testing the water isn’t necessary ready for much hassles and they’re not yet all in.

Once they’re all in they’ll pull an all nighter if necessary to get something done.

I do the opposite, protecting my personal email by using it for nothing but emails to friends, family, and another for signing up for stuff. And I have a sort of semi throwaway address for misc newsletters and possibly annoying stuff such as marketing automation hell.

For services and what not I know and trust I go with a regular alias with my domain for this purpose. And I have service specific aliases such as foo@example,com so I can delete the alias if necessary which is rare.

Then there the quick thing that you can do with any address for separation of concerns with foo+bar@example.com so if your email address is foo@example.com, just make a quick and dirty instant alias by signing up with, say, foo+bar@gmail.com.

Lol!

The soil isn’t good. It’s all bio mass so they burn, grow or graze and move on. It’s slash and burn.
marmot777··on Ask HN: What passive income investments exist to supplement your salary?
For sure. I like the animals on the covers too.
marmot777··on Ask HN: What passive income investments exist to supplement your salary?
Yeah, the review sites that drive affiliate revenue with content marketing SEO tend to hire low cost writers to do web searches and write articles, stopping just short of the plagiarism line, realizing that duplicate content isn’t good for SEO.

These sites aren’t going to to really test the pool cleaning equipment, the web hosting services being reviewed and ranked, learning Python tutorials. Nobody is going to pay anyone to test anything to make sure how the how-to cobbled together from three similar articles actually works.

marmot777··on Ask HN: What passive income investments exist to supplement your salary?
Ghost written or quick buck books are super common in Google Unlimited or low priced books. I can now spot them pretty quickly. Tech books are an area where I’d go with a known publishing house that has a good track record.
marmot777··on Ask HN: What passive income investments exist to supplement your salary?
You hire ghostwriters through freelance sites so it’s possible but for sure not a given the ghostwriter will be an expert. It’s more likely the author would do a lot of web searches and cobble something together that’s most likely or some value but it’ll likely be a got-what-you paid for situation.

O’Reilly has been publishing good tech books for decades with books often written by a top subject matter expert.

“Optimal Adaptive Balancing of Food Seeking and Territoriality in Feline cactus”

We’ve published the study in the peer reviewed Catster Magazine.

Lol. I can’t quite tell if this is real or a spoof. Perfect.
marmot777··on I’ve had the same supper for 10 years
Yeah, onions count but I guess I was thinking a variety of veggies. When I eat some onion I don’t feel the sense of hey i think it would be awesome to eat a whole onion every day but everyone has different preferences and I try not to judge people for their tastes.

So I guess I was thinking more like a variety of veggies that presumably as a farmer he could grow if he enjoyed veggies. This guy had a clear idea of what he liked and went with it.

marmot777··on I’ve had the same supper for 10 years
He wasn’t exactly on the paleo diet... his diet seemed to be missing some things he could have gotten more than one way.
marmot777··on I’ve had the same supper for 10 years
Yeah, it’s impossible to know why this guy had a series of strokes. It could be genetics, diet, other lifestyle factors.

He might have had a genetic predisposition for high blood pressure or other contributing factors that can lead to strokes.

marmot777··on I’ve had the same supper for 10 years
John Lennon once said that life was what happened to you while you were busy making other plans.
marmot777··on I’ve had the same supper for 10 years
Yeah, I have had similar thoughts that stress will get me in the end.
marmot777··on I’ve had the same supper for 10 years
Yes, I meant ascetic. Lol. Not aesthetic.

Thanks for catching that.

marmot777··on Ask HN: How can I improve my intelligence?
Exercise, enough sleep, a healthy diet, and staying hydrated can make your brain work better.

I have an intuitive sense that you have the intelligence to meet your goals, so the keys will end up being focus, drive, the ability to stay with it when the going gets really rough, and the humility to ask for help when you need it.

Sadly, the Amazon basin has been on fire for decades. It’s destruction will be one of humanity’s biggest regrets.
marmot777··on Amazon Fake Reviews Scam Exposed in Data Breach
You’re saying the company that’s revolutionized the supply chain and brought us AWS can’t mitigate at least mass, organized fraud if it was a priority?!

Bull shit.

There will be Amazon rockets and maybe one day a Mars landing but stopping mass fraud is too big a problem?

marmot777··on Amazon Fake Reviews Scam Exposed in Data Breach
Then please prove that commitment to the customer and to long term credibility by making it a high priority to mitigate this problem.

A lot of people love Amazon now but this kind of shit screws customers and that’s unacceptable.

marmot777··on Amazon Fake Reviews Scam Exposed in Data Breach
Well said.
marmot777··on Amazon Fake Reviews Scam Exposed in Data Breach
They’re been able to create a service or two for AWS so they clearly have the horsepower to resolve this unacceptable problem that’s eroding their credibility. They have a lot of cred now which I assume they don’t want sliding down a slippery slope.
marmot777··on Amazon Fake Reviews Scam Exposed in Data Breach
Yeah, I have to call Bullshit that Amazon couldn’t stop at least organized mass fraud.
marmot777··on Amazon Fake Reviews Scam Exposed in Data Breach
Fuck coupons if they enable fraud.
marmot777··on Amazon Fake Reviews Scam Exposed in Data Breach
Yeah, microeconomics, make it more costly and harder to Crete fake reviews.

Amazon has the brain power and resources to mitigate this problem...

marmot777··on Amazon Fake Reviews Scam Exposed in Data Breach
Oh wow, so the paid reviewers actually “buy” the product. What a shit show.

Amazon probably doesn’t consider this much of a priority to deal with as it doesn’t hurt them just their customers.

marmot777··on Amazon Fake Reviews Scam Exposed in Data Breach
I’m not usually into cheering for that sort of behavior but I have to say WELL PLAYED, sir!
