marcins··on Boarding Pass Redesign
If you haven't needed reminding of what your name is then you haven't been properly jetlagged ;)
marcins··on Why I left Heroku, and notes on my new AWS setup
Check out Amazon's Elastic Beanstalk - it handles the provisioning/deployment side of things - setup your environment with "eb start", update your app with just a "git aws.push".

Quite configurable via scripts too (install additional packages, etc). Under the hood it's basically the same - Elastic Load Balancer and EC2 instances.

marcins··on Blink: A rendering engine for the Chromium project
Chrome for iOS uses a UIWebView for rendering (effectively Safari), but uses the Chromium networking layer, UI (omnibox), etc. Arguably though rendering/JS is a big part of what makes the browser the browser, but it isn't everything.
marcins··on HipChat is now free for teams of 5 users or fewer
One person creates the "organisation", and then creates users/accounts within that organisation (or invites people). The organisation pays the bills. I assume it's not "first 5 people free" if you have more but either "up to 5 people free' or $2/mo/user - so if you have 6 it's 6 x $2/mo. Similar to Atlassian's other products with their $10/10 user tier.

Looking at the Billing screen of our 45 user account it doesn't seem like anything has changed (will still be $90/mo)

marcins··on Rescue.js
Only problem with this is that window.onerror isn't available in webkit.
marcins··on Hey, Guys, Remember When You Used To Care About Flash?
A guy at work has a Nexus 7 which has no SD card slot and no removable battery. I remember when the Android people used those features as a differentiator.
marcins··on I must be crazy
Commuter trains in Sydney (where the poster & I are both from) are double-decker where most people sit (except when it gets crowded). If his commute was anything like mine I get on when there's still plenty of seats next to a window and I can get out my laptop, pop in some headphones and get 45-50 minutes of solid hacking done without interruption.
marcins··on Heroku's Cedar Stack goes GA
General Availability - i.e. it's out of Beta.
marcins··on Live Minecraft server connections
They should have the server or client send a traceroute with the data it sends when it logs a connection for more accurate mapping!
marcins··on Meet Atlassian Stash: Git Repository Management For Enterprise Teams
For the software, yes, but then you have to host it and maintain the server it's on. Sure that's not going to be much, but it's still something to consider.
marcins··on Objective-C literals for NSDictionary, NSArray, and NSNumber
You can't use the beta Xcode / SDKs to build apps for the relevant App Store anyway, so while it contains neat new features it's technically only useful for developers developing that particular pre-release OS (whether iOS 5.1 or OS X 10.8).

Interestingly now Xcode 4.3 is out of beta the iOS 5.1 SDK is still only available with Xcode 4.3 DP3 (although realistically there's not much public new stuff in iOS 5.1 since presumably it's all under wraps for the iPad 3).

marcins··on Stealing Your Address Book
I wonder how they'd go about making the Address Book stuff require permission without breaking existing apps. They could insert a permission dialog, but there'd be no way for existing apps to handle the rejection gracefully as it would likely be a new method in a new SDK.

I guess they could just make all the "get" functions return empty data sets if the user doesn't agree for apps using the current functions.

They'll need to maintain backward compatibility to at minimum iOS 4, there's not many new apps that are iOS 5 only at the moment.

marcins··on Javascript Best Practices
There's also JSHint (http://www.jshint.com/), a fork of JSLint with a bit more configurability.
marcins··on The Strange Case of John Dillinger and the Fraudulent Apple ID
I had this where I'd be getting a "statement notification" from some guy's bank every month - no financial information in the email, but you also couldn't unsubscribe without logging into the online banking thingie. In the end I googled the guy's name (it was in the email), found the one with a really similar email address to mine and let him know :)
marcins··on Good bye, Google Maps… thanks for all the fish
I would assume Apple's existing licence with Google for using Maps covers this.
marcins··on [dead]
You could always set up some tests using jsperf.com. I don't believe it does memory usage though.

Seems like people are testing the sort of things measured in this article at the moment too eg.:

marcins··on [dead]
You can't have two elements with the same id. Well, you can, but it's not valid.
marcins··on Things That Turbo Pascal is Smaller Than
I don't see why he compared Turbo Pascal to the Wikipedia page on C++ - Turbo Pascal is also much smaller than the Wikipedia page on Turbo Pascal :)
marcins··on How Two Teenagers Broke In To Silicon Valley - And The Music Industry
Well, I assume Lil' Wayne's advertising budget went to these guys, but then these guys didn't spend any of it on the promotions they did (it just paid for their time / expertise).
