maphew··on The Cornell Note Taking System
The rash of "no way" responses makes me wonder: what note taking system(s) have you encountered that actually work for you? (And why, if known.)

From someone who episodically takes notes in haphazard fashion and very rarely looks at them again, and thinks he's probably woefully working harder than he should as a result.

maphew··on Ask HN: Concepts that clicked only years after you first encountered them?
I don't understand but am intrigued. Can you point to some resources that elaborate on and demonstrate what you're talking about here?
maphew··on What’s in a PR statement: LastPass breach explained
I forgot the other part of my reasoning: my hints only work for me. If I am incapacitated in a way that affects my password recall the hints won't mean shit to my family.
maphew··on What’s in a PR statement: LastPass breach explained
This used to be my main approach, but now I only use it for some key sites and rely on a password manager for the other 90%. Why the change? Watching the mental deterioration of aging on friends and family, and noting the beginnings of such things in myself. My mind is so much slower than it used to be, including recall. It's not only aging. A friend had a concussion from a lousy picture frame falling off the wall. It wasn't even that big or heavy. 3 years later still slowly rebuilding mental and language function.

There may be dozens of similarly profund discoveries being made in Indian institutions but we wouldn't hear about them simply because they wouldn't be reported in English or talked about in places like HN.
maphew··on Tell HN: YouTube's web UI just got even worse
Talking with friends: some report most recommendations align with their interests, even those that are surprising because they haven't expressed interest in that category (hadn't yet watched or liked a video in the theme). However like you other friends report routinely aweful recommendations across the board. My experience is in the middle somewhere.

I wish there were a way to see how it places you in various demographics, with a corresponding 'slider' to move yourself in/out of topics.

maphew··on Tell HN: YouTube's web UI just got even worse
Something to keep in mind is that YouTube does A/B testing, showing different interface design changes to different people and then comparing the stats later.
