malermeister··on EU Council to Vote on Chat Scanning Proposal on Thursday
Please don't conflate socialism with authoritarianism. There's non-authoritarian socialists; there's non-socialist authoritarians. They are two independent axis.

In the case of the EU, it's a capitalist authoritarian project.

malermeister··on ExectOS – brand new operating system which derives from NT architecture
Can you share a bit more about the inappropriate and dirty reverse-engineering by ReactOS and what the deal with TinyKrnl is?

This response really only answers the question for a select few people familiar with the windows reverse engineering community drama.

malermeister··on ExectOS – brand new operating system which derives from NT architecture
Why this over ReactOS, a much more mature open source OS, which is also based on NT? https://reactos.org/
malermeister··on YouTube's next move might make it virtually impossible to block ads
This is also a good point. YouTube didn't even had ads when it initially launched.

Corpos will try to shift the deal in their favor all the time, take as much as they can take away with.

I intend to do the same. If you just want to take it, that's your prerogative.

> minimum annoyance to me

Stealing comes with a lot of potential annoyance - as it should. Skipping ads does not.

malermeister··on YouTube's next move might make it virtually impossible to block ads
Have the client prebuffer the video, start playback after $TOTAL_AD_LENGTH.

Capitalism is an inherently adversarial system - Google's motivation is to extract as much value out of me at minimum cost to them. My motivation is to extract as much value out of them at minimum annoyance to me.

Technology sometimes tips the balance a little bit towards the individual and away from the megacorp. I don't see how that is a bad thing.

malermeister··on YouTube's next move might make it virtually impossible to block ads
That private youtube already exists by the way. It's called Nebula and its a project by popular yt creators.
malermeister··on YouTube's next move might make it virtually impossible to block ads
Coming up next: Local AI model to detect and skip ads.
malermeister··on Apple blocks PC emulator in iOS App Store and third-party app stores
That's exactly what the EU's DMA does. It tends to get a lot of flak here for some reason.
malermeister··on Apple blocks PC emulator in iOS App Store and third-party app stores
Yeah there's no way this is gonna fly.
malermeister··on Cancel Adobe if you are a creative under NDA with your clients
This is just a draft though, right? Not actual legislation. So while still worrying, I think your post was inaccurate - it may be the case in the future, if things go poorly. But it isn't the case right now.

What's wrong with making an infinite number? You just need to check it against one public key.
malermeister··on British engineering giant Arup revealed as $25M deepfake scam victim
What's wrong with good ol' private keys?
malermeister··on EU Joint Debt Is a Slippery Slope, Nobel Economist Sargent Says
Well that's what slippery slopes are for :-)
malermeister··on Gio UI – Cross-platform GUI for Go
> first-class development environment (Xcode)

this made me lol. As somebody who does mobile dev professionally, the worst thing about iOS dev is how terrible XCode is compared to Android Studio.

There's no way I would want this.

malermeister··on Big Tech to EU: "Drop Dead"
So is calling our representatives "ghouls".
malermeister··on Big Tech to EU: "Drop Dead"
The Comission is appointed by directly elected governments, e.g. with one proxy in-between.

It is as (un-) democratic as the American Presidency, considering the Electoral College.

Yet you never hear complaints about the EC from the same types that love to rally against the Commission.

malermeister··on Big Tech to EU: "Drop Dead"
They represent me and my fellow non-extremist citizens. Is the EU perfect? No. Is it better than any alternative? Yes.
malermeister··on EU Joint Debt Is a Slippery Slope, Nobel Economist Sargent Says
That is precisely why it needs to happen. The EU needs to federalize yesterday.
malermeister··on 'I'm the new Oppenheimer ': Palantir's first-ever AI warfare conference
As we've seen by the wonderful results in Afghanistan.
malermeister··on The danger of the mediocre success when testing startup hypotheses (2023)
What if you're bootstrapped and are just trying to make an honest living instead of playing the VC casino?
malermeister··on The Rise of the Forever Renter Class
Yes, I also fully agree here - this is absolutely a personal value judgement and not a universal truth. It's the right tradeoff for me, it might not be for you.

I'm in my early 30s fwiw.

malermeister··on The Rise of the Forever Renter Class
It's not just for work. I fully work from home and could live in a bigger place in the country. I just want to live where there's culture - access to restaurants, nightlife, etc etc.
malermeister··on H5N1 prevalence in milk suggest US bird flu outbreak in cows is widespread
Why?
malermeister··on H5N1 prevalence in milk suggest US bird flu outbreak in cows is widespread
Pea is pretty good, at least here in Europe. Really depends on your ecosystem.
malermeister··on H5N1 prevalence in milk suggest US bird flu outbreak in cows is widespread
I am not, but I have a lot of respect for people who are. Personally, I'm too selfish and animal products taste too good.
malermeister··on H5N1 prevalence in milk suggest US bird flu outbreak in cows is widespread
It doesn't need to be produced through the incredible wasteful in-between animal.

People can either eat straight up plant-based food, or alternatively go for lab grown meat. There's no need to go through all the inefficiency and suffering of factory farms.

malermeister··on The Resurrection of Rajasthan's Royal Liquors
Thanks, but I no longer live in the US :( I'll have to see if I can find it somewhere in the EU.
