> And you sound like someone who grew up in a elitist cocoon, parroting "pseudo liberal" wishy washy.

I grew up in a Brahmin household, and that's part of why I came to dislike and question all religions. I am not some pseudo liberal like you'd like to dismiss of (If you read my comment carefully, you will observe I have bashed them too).

The biggest problem is elitist attitude among ourselves. We should accept we were not some innately superior civilization that somehow got looted and screwed by colonialists, and that we have things to learn from outside as well. That's what the right wingers in India would never get.

Savarkar must be crying in the heaven seeing all nonsense "right wingers" perpetrate today.

Don't attribute to bugs what can be attributed to features.

Bruh.

> anti-modi and anti-hindu and pro communist or Islamic

You can be anti modi without being Anti Hindu. Lot of educated people are pretty rational. Opposing Hindu votebank politics is not anti Hindu. (Of course there are a bunch of liberal arts graduates posing as liberals but being actually anti Hindu, but no way they constitute the majority of "English educated elite".)

your comment sounds like a collection of all insults that extreme right wingers throw around a lot.

Sounds like you grew up in an upper caste household with all those conspiracy theories of India being suppressed from being a superpower by outside powers and colonial tendencies. I know this happens because I grew up in similar environment. :(

> You already know someone will teach their students to always have it off because its "slower" or something.

Already happening with Nim.

But I'd expect a system programmer to know better. When to use release and when to use development mode.

Case in point, rust doesn't catch integer overflows in release build either. Maybe Efficiency is more important than we think?

majjgepolja··on Babel is used by millions, so why are we running out of money?
Compilers are bad. They add to the already giant mess of unnecessary assembler tooling. How much of them is really needed, and how much is there just for embedded developers to show their "street cred?" Not a lot at all.

Not only the debugging is breaking down because of UB, but they often introduce bugs on their own which are very hard to find.

Library authors force involuntary decision to use compilers on people downstream, and everything suffers from that: "feature A breaks with compiler G* 5.0," but because end users simply don't use them, and thus don't file bugs, devs don't know that either.

The GP is not telling everyone to go to FAANG. They are telling fellow engineers to not get themselves exploited by low paying companies.

I might be downvoted to hell, but it's more likely because of same supply-demand thing. Teacher is not a high skilled job, not to mention most teachers are outright bad at their jobs thus not producing much value anyway.

It was that previously these publishers were printing and distributing journals, before the internet.

Some of the journals are naturally more prestigious than others. Academics want to publish in these famous journals. The name of journals they publish in carries lot of value for an academic's career. (That's what matters for the big head dudes who manage funds / promotions, they don't understand all these open access stuff.)

Thus, the publisher has a monopoly or oligopoly on high value journals, new open access free as in libre journal cannot establish itself.

Even if you're a well meaning academic who wishes not to contribute to this oligopoly, when you are young you don't want to risk your career. When you're old there are other young people under you and you don't want to risk their career.

The big ~~head~~ belly dudes in positions of power are ones who need to understand this.

I dislike BJP propaganda as much as next educated person, but could it be just that if facebook stops sensoring BJP bots, they might provoke mobs to physically attack Facebook in India, and their employee's safety is important for them?
