My political views aren't inline with majority of Hacker News members. Especially on issues relating to China, Russia, India and other countries that aren't allies of the United States. I will continue to read as a non-member.

madiathomas··on Developer Roadmaps
Instead of learning JavaScript frameworks, isn't it better to advise people to learn and master JavaScript itself? I feel learning HTTP, HTTPS, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript inside-out will benefit someone than to try to learn a framework that will disappear very soon. When you know undelying technologies, it is easier to learn new frameworks because they will always be based on underlying technologies.
madiathomas··on How to Hide a Billion Dollars
What is the difference between Mswati and the Queen of England? eSwatini also have a Prime Minister. Just like Britain. We can say the same thing about the Queen of England and other royals. He is living like a King because he is a King of eSwatini, not an elected leader. Just like the Queen of England.
madiathomas··on How to Hide a Billion Dollars
This is the simple but not obvious way to hide a billion dollars. While you are still looting resources of your country, make sure you are friendly to United States of America and allow them to also loot. They won't touch you. No-one will go after your loot if the US is also benefiting from the looting.
madiathomas··on GitHub for Mobile
Most of the maintenance involves making small changes that can be done even on a phone. E.g., if app is crashing because there is a piece of code which isn't doing array bounds checking, you can add that code quickly and push changes. Another example is small changes like fixing typos or changing labels.
madiathomas··on The FCC Has Fined Robocallers $208M, Collected $6,790
To avoid distraction. Majority of calls I received from landline numbers, are from robocalls.
madiathomas··on YouTube might terminate your access if not profitable for Google
Thank you lavios. I will install it later.
madiathomas··on YouTube might terminate your access if not profitable for Google
Let me try that and see how it goes. Let me go and install it.
madiathomas··on YouTube might terminate your access if not profitable for Google
When I encounter an unskippable advert, I refresh the browser or report it as inapprporiate. I don't want to be forced to watch an advert.
madiathomas··on The FCC Has Fined Robocallers $208M, Collected $6,790
That's my goal too.
madiathomas··on YouTube might terminate your access if not profitable for Google
Unfortunately I watch YouTube on a smart TV. I have no way of blocking their adverts. I can only wait for skip button and skip.
madiathomas··on YouTube might terminate your access if not profitable for Google
Then they must make their adverts smaller. 5-10 seconds is enough to remind me there is a soft drink brand called Coca-Cola.
madiathomas··on YouTube might terminate your access if not profitable for Google
Then I am a profitable user then.
madiathomas··on YouTube might terminate your access if not profitable for Google
I skip all YouTube adverts that are longer than 15 seconds and never click on any advert when searching. I am probably considered "commercially unviable", even though a company I own 100%, pays Google thousands of dollars every year to use Google Suite and Google Cloud Engine. I don't see a reason for my personal account to be commercially viable.
madiathomas··on The FCC Has Fined Robocallers $208M, Collected $6,790
I am using an iPhone. I wouldn't mind switching back to Android just for this feature.
madiathomas··on The FCC Has Fined Robocallers $208M, Collected $6,790
My phone is always on silent. Unless I am expecting a very important call. I prefer not to be notified. I am even tempted to invest some time and write an app that does exactly what I want -> Reject all calls from unknown numbers.
madiathomas··on Gitlab considers not hiring SREs and Support Engineers in China and Russia
As someone who resides in a neutral country, I fully support your decision. That’s how I feel about HN. Go well. I am also considering leaving HN because of propaganda against China and Russia. You will think USA is this saint when you read comments on HN. How I wish user base of HN wasn’t dominated by one country or can completely stay away from international politics. There are many other sites for such discussions.
madiathomas··on They Might Never Tell You It’s Broken
Before I decide to use an open source library, I check bug reports and see attitude of the library maintainer before I use it. If there is a lot of WONTFIX or arrogant attitude, I simple stay away from such a library.
madiathomas··on New 'unremovable' xHelper malware has infected 45,000 Android devices
This is how mafia operates. They come to you and offer protection in exchange for a recurring "protection fee". If you refuse, they are the ones who commit crimes against you until you fork out a "protection fee".
madiathomas··on Equifax securities fraud class action [pdf]
Pressure from the higher ups to release to production can force you to dump all the IT security knowledge you accumulated over the years.
madiathomas··on Flash Is Responsible for the Internet's Most Creative Era
Flash is one of those technologies that I refused to learn. It was in fashion when I was still starting my career in Software Development. I didn't like the experience on websites using flash. I saw Flash and other similar technologies as cancers to the web. I didn't want to be part of the problem.
madiathomas··on NBA's China dilemma: $4B at risk as Chinese TV cancels game broadcasts
Firstly, I belong to a minority tribe in SA. That tribe is called Venda. Just over a million people out of around 55 million people. Secondly, no group of people is being oppressed in SA. China isn't interested in regime change or looting of African resources like the West. No record of them sponsoring wars and genocides, for profit.
madiathomas··on The China Cultural Clash
Unfortunately I don't know a website which is as good as Hacker News when coming to technical news. I wish there was a Hacker News site without politics.
madiathomas··on The China Cultural Clash
One-sided complaints? When we point out millions of people which were murdered by US, we are downvoted and suppressed because we are a minority on this US-dominated website. I am seriously fed-up with the bullshit spread on this site. You can remove some of us and continue to discuss rubbish pro-US drivel. If there is a way to report users, please do me a favour by reporting my account. I want to get out of this rubbish website today.
madiathomas··on NBA's China dilemma: $4B at risk as Chinese TV cancels game broadcasts
I pointed out to you what China is doing economically in an African country that I live in. Also pointed out what US has done recently in my country and continue to do. I wouldn't mind if someone feels I am inferior but leave me alone. I have a problem with a country that acts holy but was sponsoring oppression of people in my country and continues to sponsor oppression of people of many other countries in this day and age. China is the least of my worries.
madiathomas··on The China Cultural Clash
Anti-China propaganda machinery is in full force today. So many anti-China propaganda articles in a technical news site. This isn't what I was expecting when I joined Hacker News. I was expecting to see Hacker news, not this rubbish that has littered the front page today. I am even ready to be removed from this site today. I am not even Chinese. I have never visited China but I am able to see anti-China bullshit that is happening on this site.
madiathomas··on NBA's China dilemma: $4B at risk as Chinese TV cancels game broadcasts
I live in an African country. I know what China is doing in my country. This is what they are doing -> Investing billions of rands and they never supported an unjust government like US which was sponsoring apartheid government in my country and listed Nelson Mandela as a terrorist for fighting against their favourite government which was oppressing black people in their own country.
madiathomas··on NBA's China dilemma: $4B at risk as Chinese TV cancels game broadcasts
Show me evidence of China travelling to other countries and kill millions of people like the United States. As a non-citizen of China, I am not worried about social credit system and any monitoring that happens in China. Every country does have some human rights violations. I am worried about a country that thinks they can travel to any country and bomb civilians when they want to loot their resources.
madiathomas··on Facebook Now Allows Politicians to Lie in Paid Ads
Are you suggesting that facebook must fact-check each and every of their billions of advert? That will be to unmanageable. Facebook runs billions of adverts annually. Even with a budget of the United States, they simply won't be able to do it manually. Beside, checking if something is a fact or not is not black and white.
madiathomas··on Facebook Now Allows Politicians to Lie in Paid Ads
How on Earth will facebook fact-check each and every advert on their platform. This is becoming ridiculous. We are expecting too much from facebook. Soon they will need to employ million people in order to police their social networks like a hawk. This is something that needs to be done by advertising standards authority of a country, not facebook or any private company.
madiathomas··on Where you are born is more predictive of your future than any other factor
Yes. That's what I meant. Sorry for the confusion.
