mac_was··on The Robot economy and the future of work
That is funny looking at history where it actually never worked, you can have starving people in North Korea vs China which is a not socilism anymore from market perspective... I come from a post-socialist country, and when growing up in the 90s we and 90% of the society was so poor after 50 years of socialism that my parents could not afford a pair of Nike or Adidas. What me and most mates were wearing was Nice and Adidos... as a pair of oroginal Nike was like 1/3 of my mum or dad salary. So I’ll never say yes to any socialist ideas! As these ruined several countries: Cuba, North Korea, Venezuela, Russia, Albania, Yugoslavia, Poland and at least a dozen of other countries from the other side of the Iron courtain.
mac_was··on A mathematician's way of converting miles to kilometers
You saved my life :)
mac_was··on Show HN: A time tracker that asks you every 10 min what you're doing
I waited all my life to be interrupted every 10 minutes... jokes aside , this is a bit pointless, at least from a dev perspective, when you are finally in the zone to let a tool constantly interrupt
mac_was··on Finnair Flight 915
Well they would surely loose this one if the missile didn't blow up before impact...
mac_was··on Girls’ advantage in reading can largely explain the gender gap in STEM
Maybe just most women aren’t interested in STEM, like most men aren’t interested in hairdressing? Those who are, both men and women, can get jobs as I see women being very good programmers and men being very good hair dressers
mac_was··on 'My son spent £3,160 in one game'
Did you read the article at all? A game says it is for 3 years old and above and it uses trickery to manipulate a 5 year old into thinking that real money is just game coins. How are you supposed to control that?
mac_was··on Racket Is an Acceptable Python
What is the purpose of Racket? Is there any use for web development?
mac_was··on Ask HN: How do you find time to learn new skills having family?
Actually I haven't thought about switching hobbies, this is something worth considering!
mac_was··on Ask HN: How do you find time to learn new skills having family?
I really like this response and the career progression tips, thanks!
mac_was··on Ask HN: How do you find time to learn new skills having family?
Exactly I don't want to in couple years time regret that I've missed time with my kids!

Looks like I need to wait a bit and in the meantime focus on my kids :-)

mac_was··on Ask HN: How do you find time to learn new skills having family?
I wonder, did you start your YC startup when your kids were little?
mac_was··on Ask HN: How do you find time to learn new skills having family?
Will definitely try waking up earlier but when the little one is older so I do not wake up several times during the night when she cries for food. I managed to do it just before she was born and absolutely loved the quiet house and possibility to focus.

Growing kids is a concern and absolutely love spending time with them but sometimes just need time to myself.

mac_was··on Ask HN: How do you find time to learn new skills having family?
I like it! I actually feel guilty when I spend time on my own interests at work when in between sprints. Lucky guys who have you as manager, I do believe that there are more managers like you, would agree for a dev to work on own projects, but they do not tell their devs about it.
mac_was··on Ask HN: How do you find time to learn new skills having family?
That is a wise advise! I do not want to cause damage to our relationship as well and struggling with my interests and hobbies as most times choose wife and kids than my own interests.
mac_was··on Ask HN: How do you find time to learn new skills having family?
And 4 hours it is as the young one wakes up around 12 for a feed. A hard bed time is a good start but as you say it takes an hour or more sometimes
mac_was··on Ask HN: How do you find time to learn new skills having family?
So it is until about 5 years of age. Good to know and thanks for sharing your experience
mac_was··on Ask HN: How do you find time to learn new skills having family?
Oh definitely! It is not that I do not enjoy spending time and playing with them, it is the contrary to be honest.
mac_was··on Learning Golang – From Zero to Hero
I wosh I had time to learn new languages as I used to... but with 2 kids, one being 4 months it is nearly impossible. How do others devs hungry for knowledge deal with situations like this one?
mac_was··on You probably don’t need ReCAPTCHA
“It’s worth noting how much easier it is to successfully solve ReCAPTCHAs when the user is logged into their Google account”. Well to me it makes absolute sense as Google knows that the logged in user is a human. This article is just following the current trend all Google is bad.
mac_was··on Norway's capital is the latest city to declare war on cars
What are we going to do with millions of people who will loose jobs in the automotive industry? Surely they will if we ban cars!
mac_was··on Common mistakes in PostgreSQL
It is 2019 and this site is not mobile friendly!
mac_was··on Solid – The Best JavaScript UI Library You’ve Never Heard Of
"The last thing anyone is looking for is another JavaScript UI Library/Framework. It’s beyond fatigue from the crippling weight of constant decision making and chasing Unicorns. It’s just gotten so easy to make something. Web Components are responsible for a new “framework” every other day it seems like. So why even bother?" - almost stopped reading on the first paragraph, but there was a nice table with comparison so gave it a try.
mac_was··on The Cult of Homework
I always had lots of homework and every subject was the most important one, in the opiniin of the teacher. No surprise I was copying homework at school from other children because I forgot or didn’t have energy to do it. Hope my kids will have time to play and discover what is really interesting to them in contrary to me
mac_was··on Descartes was wrong: ‘a person is a person through other persons’ (2017)
Animals do not have free will and they kill as well, they kill because of instinct so your point is not true.
mac_was··on Descartes was wrong: ‘a person is a person through other persons’ (2017)
So if all your friends starts killing would you start as well? I believe you have free will, your imagination, a brain and you can assess for yourself what actions you eant to perform.
mac_was··on Descartes was wrong: ‘a person is a person through other persons’ (2017)
This is environmental determinism and it is an old concept. Obviously we live with others and other can have impact on us but it is still up to us if are impacted by them or we are self contained human beings which decide for themselves.
mac_was··on Show HN: Zero – A fast, zero-configuration server for React, Node.js, Markdown
Great work, if you need any help with it just add requestes on github and tag as help needed.
mac_was··on You Don't Need to Quit Your Job to Make
"I am not depending on being great to be happy" - spot on!
mac_was··on You Don't Need to Quit Your Job to Make
Well said, live is a marathon not a sprint.
mac_was··on You Don't Need to Quit Your Job to Make
I didn’t know that, even so it perfectly summarizes some people lives.
