I would remind my fellow HN readers that often with issues of race and violence it is better to listen first before potentially saying something stupid or hurtful.
Simple answer might be: no organized coordinated effort was ever made to stop the spread in the US. That surveillance stuff is so much easier in a secret court where you don’t have to answer to annoying “citizens”.

my cynical half is thinking they said, "well if all these other ways to track you online exist what the hell let's roll back cookies to look good for the privacy-concerned set." this seems like just privacy theatre based marketing. maybe github is actually being good here though, who knows?
It is depressing that they even need to devote time and energy in to writing this. Could be summarized in less words. “Calm down, you aren’t that important.”
Man this entire thread is full of people complaining about the noise of quadcopters... they are pretty noisy but y’all really don’t think we can get the noise level to a tolerable level. A lot of naysaying for something that seems pretty cool, maybe I just haven’t had enough coffee to join the default dystopian world view we have rockin here. Sheesh.

asking unironically (but yeah maybe a little bitchingly) who ever thought it was a good idea to "format" clipboard content? i have never wanted it and can't imagine ever wanting it. clearly i am not weird because, here we are with a bunch of other people who clearly hate this. why are things like this not made configurable by Microsoft?
