lyptt··on Remote Code Execution Found in CocoaPods
Swift Package Manager is the official package manager for Xcode. It's been available for a few years now and a lot of third party iOS/macOS projects support it. I haven't had to touch CocoaPods in many years. For the past 5 years I've been using Carthage, and more recently everything is SPM.

Only way I know of is to mute your speakers before shutdown/restart
lyptt··on Once on the brink of eradication, syphilis is raging again
Unfortunately on https://www.iwantprepnow.co.uk/prep-on-the-nhs/ it looks like it's still via closed trials, unless you're in Scotland or Wales. I'm not holding out much hope for it being generally available any time soon, based on how they've acted so far.

Depends on the country. Here in the UK it's not offered by the NHS at all unless you're on one of their trials, so you have to buy it outright. Some organisations will offer it as long as you go get tested regularly, but you can order it online just as easily.

I order my PrEP online and do all my STD testing at home, since I hate having to reveal my sexual history to strangers constantly.

lyptt··on The Web MiniDisc App (2020)
I used to have a minidisc player in the early 2000s. Loved that thing. It got replaced for an iPod mini though, which was way more convenient.
lyptt··on Show HN: Mail Studio – IDE for designing responsive emails
MJML is insanely cool. I've just switched over to it and saved myself a ton of pain in creating consistent HTML emails.
lyptt··on Ghost Kernel
If you like this, check out https://wiki.osdev.org. Tons of OS projects on there, some are very impressive.
lyptt··on Librem Tunnel Is Leaving iOS
FYI you don’t need WiFi to activate. You can activate via iTunes / macOS if you plug it in.
lyptt··on Experience with Apple Silicon M1 MacBook Pro as a Software Developer
Have you given UTM (https://github.com/utmapp/UTM) a try? It can run ARM and Intel virtual machines. It's basically a wrapper around QEMU, and it can be a little unstable depending on your chosen configuration, but it'll work in a pinch.
lyptt··on Experience with Apple Silicon M1 MacBook Pro as a Software Developer
My M1 MacBook Pro's been an excellent purchase. It's incredibly fast, and silent even when I'm running intensive builds e.g. building new versions of LLVM. Best investment I've made this year.

I'm glad Apple reverted this with the second incarnation of the touch bar. You get a physical escape key on all M1 machines.

lyptt··on Common asthma drug cuts Covid-19 hospitalization, recovery time – Oxford study
I've already tried stopping and reducing my medication. All that does is end up with me being hospitalised. I don't have mild asthma, I have chronic asthma. That's not the kind of thing you can heal with breathing techniques.

Snap, been taking budesonide for about 5 years now. It was a massive improvement to my quality of life and I have basically zero asthma symptoms now as a result. My doctor tried to take me down to a weaker alternative medicine but I shot that down straight away. It's been the next best thing to a cure for me.
lyptt··on RE3(reversed source code for GTA3/VC) has received a DMCA takedown from Take-Two
I'm glad I set up a git mirror on my own home server. I've been looking forward to giving this a shot all week!
lyptt··on ReactOS Updates
A lot of software from the Windows XP days runs well. Running newer software than that isn't usually as successful.
lyptt··on The computers rejecting job applications
There's no way in hell I'd do an AI-based interview. It speaks a lot about the way a company treats its employees if they can't even be bothered to speak to you until the second round.
lyptt··on It’s Time to Embrace Kubernetes Really?
One thing I've found about k8s is running a cluster can be very costly, and using a managed cluster on one of the big three clouds is even more so. Also, when rolling your own cluster it requires a lot of elbow grease to get things in a working state, and even more to keep things working.

It feels awesome from a developer standpoint once you work out all the kinks. It's very natural describing your service with a bit of yaml, and then being able to then spawn it into your infrastructure and have it automatically scale out.

If there was a cost effective k8s cluster you could rent then that would be the thing that finally kills traditional infrastructure for me.
