lylemckeany··on Get Your Startup Covered by Any Blog
Yes! Persistence is key. These days, everyone is too busy. If you really feel that talking about your startup would be an excellent fit for the blog, keep pestering them...in a good way.

Update regarding the Svbtle theme.

I sent a tweet (https://twitter.com/lylemckeany/status/253688832501874689) to Dustin early asking about it. He kindly asked me to change my theme and I will in the next couple of days when I can get around to it. I thought/hoped that the Gravity on Mars developer(s) had his permission to create it, but that is definitely not the case.

Oooo, that does sound like a good idea. Definitely not a quick way to grow their customer base, but could payoff in a large way if done correctly. Meh, Netflix would probably screw it up under the existing management.
lylemckeany··on Dear Netflix: You're doing it wrong
It sounds like the only reason Netflix isn't allowed to do FB integration is simply because it involves movies.

I'm not completely sold on the comment section even being on my blog at this point. Comments don't always create the valuable and lively discussion that I would like. I'll try out your padding rule idea later though. Thanks for the feedback.

As far as the wp-svbtle theme goes, I like it for the simplicity. I won't deny that it's a complete rip-off of Dustin's Svbtle. I pointed it out to him on Twitter once and he only favorited my tweet. Maybe he will try to do something about it at a later time, who knows.

I wouldn't say my post was supposed to be a rant, but a critique of their approach to social media marketing instead. Seems to me that it would be relatively easy to add social sharing buttons and it would pretty much instantly increase their viral reach and subsequently grow their subscriptions.
lylemckeany··on Showmystreet: Fast and Easy Street Viewing
Plugged in my address and it had me looking down the middle of the street. I guess it technically did "Show My Street" though.
lylemckeany··on The story of Timothy Dexter
>In the second edition Dexter added an extra page which consisted of 13 lines of punctuation marks. Dexter instructed readers to "peper and solt it as they plese".

...zero f*cks given.

He's relatively plugged into the SV tech scene. He also struck a cord with his original blog post[1]. App.net was obviously just a reaction to the outpouring of support for the ideas he expressed in that post. This could just be proof that 80,000+ page views of a blog post does not equal $500K in paid users at $50, $100, or $1,000 a pop.

More recently he received a ton of attention from his open letter to Zuck[2].

lylemckeany··on An Asynchronous Image Uploading Interface for Svbtle
I'm using the Svbtle WordPress theme on my blog @ http://lylemckeany.com.

It's been great. Was simple to install and it's simple to use. Plus I can use the regular WP dashboard to deal with photos and things like that.

You can get it on Github here: https://github.com/gravityonmars/wp-svbtle

Some on alpha.app.net are arguing that app.net is "an infrastructure play for a million new networks to bloom. It's AWS not Twitter."

Not sure I completely got that message from Dalton's posts. He could simply have a marketing problem at this point, although he's done pretty well thus far if that's the case.

lylemckeany··on Ask HN: Is anyone else being forced to move to Facebook timeline?
Agreed on the ads, for sure. But ads are to be expected with FB no matter what and they're annoying in general anyways.

One thing I like about timeline is the discovery when looking at someone else's. It makes it a little easier to grasp what that person is all about in a relatively short amount of time. It's also pretty cool that you can add in significant life events that occurred well before FB (or even the web) existed.

lylemckeany··on The Origins of the Awesomeness of Spotify
I too, friggin' love Spotify.

It feeds my music junkieness a whole hell of a lot cheaper than when I used to buy CDs. Best $10 I spend every month.

lylemckeany··on Ask HN: Is anyone else being forced to move to Facebook timeline?
I switched nearly a year ago. I'm shocked that they have waited this long to force-switch everyone over to it.

Out of curiosity, why are you opposed to timeline?

lylemckeany··on Daring Fireball: App.net
It's in English, first off. :-)
lylemckeany··on Don’t Indulge. Be Happy.
I don't think that most people wish to make more money only so they can buy more things. This may have been true for the baby boomer generation, but peoples' attitudes towards money has changed quite a bit recently. When the realization that owning a home wasn't the ATM machine people always thought it would be, that changed most everyone's perspective on money.

I would argue that people wish to make at least enough money where they aren't struggling from paycheck to paycheck. That way they can easily afford to put food on the table, put clothes on their kids' backs, pay for their kids to go to college, and go on a family trip every once in awhile.
