luuio··on .NET Myths Dispelled
I have the same experience as the parent comment. For example, I wanted to have a process that runs both the asp.net service, a background discord bot, and another asp.net service.

On any other platform, it's just a good old "console app" equivalent, and you can start multiple services in your main function, catch SIGTERM, and control each service on your own.

On .NET, the project type has to be some weird Microsoft.Web.SDK things if you wanna run asp.net, and the IDE/build system would figure out what dependencies to build. And if I wanna run other services in the same binary, tough luck.

Why can't ASP.NET just be constructed as a regular console app, where you pull in nuget dependencies, instead of a completely different app type, for example.

luuio··on Give me /events, not webhooks
I don't think the original comment meant long polling (i.e. keeping the connection alive), they meant periodically call the endpoint to check for events.

Not an argument per-se, but there were cases where I had to manually build raw query parameter-values when using the `IN(v1, v2, v3)` operation. Many libraries still do not support passing in a list parameter as of 2021, even newer ones. For example, the Rust MySQL library.

I felt much safer doing that knowing the parameters I'm concatenating are integers.

> there have been many languages whose success was specifically tied to the fact that they were dynamically typed

Language success does not mean product success. A language is just one of the many things in your toolbox. There's a reason why when many products grew larger, they all are migrating to statically/strictly typed languages.

luuio··on Google Brass Set 2023 as Deadline to Beat Amazon, Microsoft in Cloud
Even if they don't just "turn off", why would I want to invest in a cloud platform that only staff enough to keep the lights on, while there are cloud platforms out there that continue to provide new features to make my development process less painful?
luuio··on Don’t Use Booleans
At the bare metal layer, most booleans are actually transported around as `int` (or WORD size), so there's no real performance benefit to compressing things down to one bit, other than if you really need to save 7 bits in physical storage.

If I read it correctly, what you just quoted is within the context of the <ruby> element.

I looked through the bug report and couldn't find the specification you're referencing. Do you have a link to it by any chance?

I'm using GNOME 3 on Fedora 29 with the Adwaita-dark theme.
luuio··on Dear web developers: set the font color, too
You got it backward. The custom CSS of the website is overriding the system styles in this case. Let's take font-family for example. Just because you're setting the font for your input[text] tags doesn't mean the browser will also automatically set the font for other elements to match the style. If you want the website to have uniform look, then you'll need to set the font-family for other elements, too.
luuio··on Dear web developers: set the font color, too
Your website CSS is inheriting the system default CSS in a sense. If you're going to override one color, you should also override the other--or override neither.
luuio··on Dear web developers: set the font color, too
> The author is trying to spread awareness that this seemingly common assumption about default colours is wrong.

I guess I could've made that point more clear in the post. Thanks for your replies in this thread :)

luuio··on Dear web developers: set the font color, too
> he author is using something that manipulates the style of inputs to make them dark with light fonts

> just style both at the same time

That's exactly the point. The system by default sets both colors, though most browsers I've used allow the website to override the colors. In these cases, the websites only override one but not the other.

luuio··on Dear web developers: set the font color, too
The dark mode is actually coming from the GNOME system colors, not browser plugin.

From inspecting the CSS in the developer console, the cases in the screenshot either set the background color without setting the text color, or vice versa.

What does rendering HTML or needing a HTTP client have to do with Electron?

As far as I know, every single usable language comes with a HTTP client, and every single GUI framework has a "WebView" control or equivalent.

The iPad Pro doesn't not have palm detection, as far as I know. This is kind of a deal breaker to port the app.

I cannot think of a company that works with Android and not with Windows. Again, agree that Android has to support a lot of hardware, but Windows needs to support even more.
