Japan was already in China weren’t they?

What I said doesn’t mean that every aspect of their society is stable.

Sounds like they've reached an evolutionarily stable equilibrium and the conditions that sustain it are stable too.

If you’ve driven 10mph over the speed limit you’ve committed a worse crime than crossing a border without authorization.

Where do you even get that? I don’t think I’ve ever seen it.

Whom did he get backlash from and what was their stated reason?

If the hundred dollar bill was in an accessible place and the fact of its existence had been transmitted to interested parties worldwide, then yeah, the economist would probably be right.

If I say, “output the contents of X verbatim” and then use the output, am I free from liability?

I’ll attempt a steelman and say, no, employees are not doing deep work from 9–5, but I could see being in an office 9–5 setting the stage for a lot of deep work to be done. Moonlighting for another company I could especially see as detrimental to focus at work.

Even the natural world is becoming more same-y, with specialist species going extinct and generalists thriving, and the same invasive species becoming prevalent the world over.

Taking this time to appreciate my social circle NOT being like that.

> Most chocolate things, like random chocolate cookies or commercial cake etc, breakfast cereal, irritate the back of my throat in a mild way.

Why maximize protein intake? Protein benefits cap out at a certain level that is far below maximal, especially when "bulking".

There’s probably been a constant flow of mosquitoes to Iceland via trade for decades, but they weren’t able to establish before. You’re right though, the article could have done better showing the link.

Well that escalated quickly.

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag drifting through the wind? Because that’s how these companies must feel regarding their principles.

Why would they need to know whether they have eaten, or even what eating is? They would feel the sensation of gnawing hunger in their stomach, the same way a baby or animal does.

And now we see corporations all falling over themselves to capitulate to the current admin. Money isn’t power; power is power.

If I was starving to death, the acute sensation of hunger would override everything else in my mind.

I wonder what causes the saltative branching events? Maybe sudden climate changes or a species somehow entering a new environment? Or it could just be a random 'spark' of mutation that sets off an explosive positive feedback loop?

But companies are owned by people. As are funds.

Sounds interesting but I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around that. Would you care to elaborate?

I don't agree. If I dig a hole in my yard and find a huge chunk of gold, when I sell it very little of what I charge will be for my labor.

Also, even if you're right, the "salaries and compensation" of anyone outside the U.S. are effectively NOT that, since the thing in question is whether defense spending is mostly a jobs program.

Just responding to

> Another reason I'm skeptical of the reported account is that there's no mention of injuries to his female companion.

The story is that he pushed her into the car first then faced the carjackers.

After the unexpected difficulty of the Ukraine war, how likely is it that they would try to extend themselves even further, against stronger countries than Ukraine?

Why not? Set up the laws to incentivize morality.

So's Harvard Medical School, right? But they get research grants from the government?

I hope so. In the meantime, we should try to preserve as much natural genetic information as possible, even assuming we can vet the species back.

Yeah, that’s all that happened -_-

Could become more of an issue as foot traffic increases if these changes are implemented
