luckyscs··on Reddit has become a guide to personal finance
I'm right at the cusp of Roth IRA contributions being taken away. If I were angling for a raise, I would make sure I made just under the limit for this year (old salary and new salary combined in proportion to time worked under each) and try to negotiate for more time off. That's about the only time I would forgot a wage raise and it would probably only be worth it for a band of 3000 around that limit.
luckyscs··on StrongTowns: Market Correction Time
This argument fails to account for the insane amounts of wealth that djia Nasdaq are gaining from global growth. I would like to see these numbers compared with global gdp vs the total government spending of all nations.

I also question how the switch from products to services has influenced the numbers. I don't know how gdp is calculated but it seems non trivial to value goods to services in a why that truely communicates the expansion/value of the economy.

Further more, markets look to the future. Let's say an asteroid passes by with all the energy and materials we would ever need and we could harvest then for free, would the market grow by all the value of the minerals in that asteroid?

To further your point, there definitely seems to be a collective conciousness that emerges from human networks, very evident in the markets, where it is expressed in bull and bear markets, confidence and panic, and the collective concious is aware of itself.

And be ready to catch that wave of productivity when it hits. Personally I can't work 8 hours straight. I try to make work a part of life, and it's not bad since it's a creative job. Have some structure to fall back on but take advantage of the flexibility when it is useful. Get Excersise in during the day, your mind a body will have more energy. Go to a coffee shop/library and get around other people. Get in your 8 hours in the most comfortable way possible.
luckyscs··on The mysteries of aerodynamic lift
I'm not sure it's that simple, and my physics knowledge isn't so strong but if it's a gradient, the force of the push can't exist without being the same thing as the force of the pull. They seem to be one in the same, the force isn't onna particular side, it's the effect of the delta between points on the gradient.

luckyscs··on Ask HN: Advice for a new and inexperienced tech lead?
Depends if the product is a key profit center. If your startup is making a product and it's not a profit center, it might get binned, it might get pivoted, it might postponed. The advice is great, just don't die on a shortsighted engineering hill when the decision come from emotional attachment to your work rather than what's best for the companies positioning and financial health. You can always put that love and energy into a new/pivoting of the product.

It's like our brains aren't meant to handle resolving that not only is it pushed through, it's sucked into a thin and ever moving but thin void. It's pushed and pulled at the same time.
luckyscs··on The mysteries of aerodynamic lift
It's like our brains aren't meant to handle resolving that not only is it pushed through, it's sucked into a thin and ever moving void. It's pushed and pulled at the same time, in otherwords, part of the continuum.
luckyscs··on Show HN: CTOnet, a private community for CTOs and engineering leaders
How about a mentee program for prospective engineering leaders to learn from those in those positions. There's a huge gap in mentorship for this kind of skill set. I can easily find people to teach me the tech side of things, finding information and wisdom on the leadership side has major barriers, in my experience, and a very high noise to signal ratio for finding this info without direction from a mentor.

luckyscs··on Who wants to play the status game?
Well none of us have eternal security. Money is just a buffer. Network is a part of it. Health is apart of it. Education is a part of it. Network and health and education are hide things to hide when living your life, but they are signals of security and that one can afford to invest time, effort and money into them.

If you met these millionaires next door, they signal this security in many different ways outside of material wealth.

luckyscs··on Who wants to play the status game?
To be fair, I am into TV shows politics sports and religion and have a hard time finding people who are thinking about and discussing these things in a way that I appreciate.
luckyscs··on Who wants to play the status game?
We all value different things, but we all have the same core needs that make us value security. Food, water, shelter. In my head right now I cant think of one status signifier that doesn't also signify security. Gold toilets included.
