luckman212··on FreeBSD doesn't have Wi-Fi driver for my old MacBook, so AI built one for me
Can we please have some calm, stable, boring years please, before I'm dead? The last 5 years have already been "wild" enough. The world is unrecognizable. I'm unprepared for further wildness.
luckman212··on Show HN: I built a macOS tool for network engineers – it's called NetViews
Is that code still active? I just tried to use it to buy the Pro version but it says it's invalid...
luckman212··on Eddie Bauer declares bankruptcy
Ringing up expensive grocery items as cheap SKU at Whole Foods self checkout...

Going on shopping sprees and then calling the credit card company to report it as fraud...

Buying a fancy dress to wear for a few nights out and then returning it...

All things people close to me have done, or continue to do on a regular basis

Talking about a relatively "privileged" class of people here- multiple homes, multiple cars, kids in private school- not struggling single moms working double shifts to put food on the table.

Something's broken in our society.

luckman212··on The Codex App
> Customers simply don't care. I don't recall a single complain about microplastics in the past 10 years.

> You will be outcompeted if you waste your time reinventing the wheel and optimizing for stuff that doesn't matter. There is some market for safe, environmentally-friendly products, but you can clearly see that the companies that make them are struggling.

ok.

luckman212··on Winapp, the Windows App Development CLI
This is so bad it doesn't even seem humanly possible. Maybe this decision was made by Copilot itself.
luckman212··on Show HN: Fence – Sandbox CLI commands with network/filesystem restrictions
Is there anything like this for macOS?
luckman212··on Predicting OpenAI's ad strategy
I pray you are right. Still, there's no guarantee that the next business model won't be an order of magnitude more user-hostile.
luckman212··on Handling secrets (somewhat) securely in shells
would very much like to see a small example of how to create, consume, and destroy those FIFOs...
luckman212··on Show HN: Comet MCP – Give Claude Code a browser that can click
Depends on your definition of "fun"
luckman212··on How Kraft Heinz lost its lock on mac and cheese and American shoppers
can you anonymously reveal what brand(s) those are? that sounds dangerous and probably illegal in most countries?
luckman212··on IPv6 just turned 30 and still hasn't taken over the world
> Private IP space is incredibly useful ... This is _gone_ with IPv6

No, it's not. Learn about ULAs:

luckman212··on Tell HN: I am afraid AI will take my job at some point
Are there many jobs where failure results in jail time? Pretty dystopian.
luckman212··on Microsoft denies rewriting Windows 11 in Rust using AI
Not just tutors- the teachers are also obsolete. And so are the students!

AI is summarizing the lessons, writing the students' papers, then grading those papers for the teachers.

Time to shut down the entire education system.

luckman212··on Cisco Finally Did It
Wonder if we'll see a similar headline about NVDA in 2050.
luckman212··on Horses: AI progress is steady. Human equivalence is sudden
"Hell on Earth" - I don't think there is a more succinct or accurate way to describe the current environment.
luckman212··on Leak confirms OpenAI is preparing ads on ChatGPT for public roll out
but AI will calculate precisely the optimal amount of electricity to waste. so, win win
luckman212··on DNS LOC Record (2014)
something something it's always DNS
luckman212··on Don't be a scary old guy: My 40s survival strategy with charm
As someone who has basically no hair left, I guess I've achieved permanent invisibility. Nice.
luckman212··on US Tech Market Treemap
I'm no expert, but UBER with a current P/E of 11.7 is "cheaper" than 27 of the 30 Dow Jones Industrial stocks, and also well below the S&P500 long term historical average.
luckman212··on AI World Clocks
Tank ypu foe wriiting this
luckman212··on OpenAI probably can't make ends meet. That's where you come in
Yes, we know it works. Just ask the knowledgeable crowd over on r/wallstreetbets. They have the answer: just turn your phone upside down! Voila, line is going up again!
luckman212··on A worker fell into a nuclear reactor pool
Would you mind sharing a link to "the xkcd thing" if you have it?

edit: sorry for being lazy, I scrolled a bit more and found it.

luckman212··on Test-ipv6.com will shut down in December 2025
Was sad to read this. Of course I understand his decision but it was a very useful site and helped IPv6 keep limping along its (barely) upward trajectory.

Hopefully someone will come along to carry the torch.

luckman212··on Slack has raised our charges by $195k per year
Wait, there are people who actually don't hate Salesforce?
luckman212··on macOS 26 Tahoe: The Ars Technica Review
Ugh. This is peak macOS enshittification.
luckman212··on "Things are a bit bumpy right now" – FreeBSD:15 pkg repo is essentially down
I was wondering why some of my build scripts were failing, turns out there's a pretty major event going on where the FreeBSD pkg repos for the upcoming 15.0-RELEASE are being completely rebuilt from scratch, and are thus mostly "empty".

E.g. https://pkg.freebsd.org/FreeBSD:15:amd64/latest/All/pstree-2... (404)

luckman212··on TinyPilot (KVM-over-IP device) has quietly removed their user forum
As a happy TinyPilot owner, I was sad to wake up this morning to find that they quietly sunsetted the forum. I was previously active there and it contained a wealth of info and (as forums tend to do) made the product more valuable because of the information sharing that takes place.

My theory is that, since last year's sale of the company[0] by its founder (Michael Lynch) they have been in "runway mode"- steadily winding down the business, providing fewer features, updates etc while they extract whatever $ remains out of the business. Sad to see, but competitors like JetKVM and the recently-announced GL.iNet Comet are surely going to eat away at sales.

I hope they reverse this decision.
