lucidrains··on Robots vs. Anesthesiologists
future improvements in anesthetic agents, intubation devices, and monitoring tools will probably allow nurse anesthetists to do more and more what anesthesiologists do today.
lucidrains··on AngularJS is amazing, and hard as hell
on that subject, i'd be curious to know if anyone here has been using polymer in production!
lucidrains··on AngularJS is amazing, and hard as hell
it isn't that hard... it's actually simpler than Ember to grok.

it is the right thing to learn right now anyhow, as the concepts naturally leads to web components, which will probably be the future of app development (cue polymer http://www.polymer-project.org/).

lucidrains··on Stop using Digital Ocean Now For the greater good
going to share another unpleasant experience here too. attended a google glasses hackathon and we ended up deciding to use digital ocean for quick prototyping of an AR app. i made the mistake of giving my teammate my paypal account, not knowing that the account had been blacklisted. a day after the successful demo, the exact same "conversation" unfolded and the account was promptly locked. i'm just glad it didn't happen an hour before the demo!
lucidrains··on Stop using Digital Ocean Now For the greater good
I've been unfortunate enough to be DDOS-ed on both linode and digital ocean for some of my sites. suffice to say, linode handles the ddos much more gracefully than digital ocean. digital ocean promptly bans you for TOS violation and locks your account after 3 DDOS attempts. I know most people don't have sites that are DDOS-ed often, but if you do run that risk, just know that digital ocean will most likely have you moving pretty quickly.
lucidrains··on Email Validation Rules
does it really matter? there are sites that store your password in plain text and they manage to become big hits. there are sites that completely ignore current css design rules, and they do fine as well. why are you arguing over a problem that is basically 99% solved?
lucidrains··on AngularUI project to improve AngularJS community quality
just choose one. i've tried both, and they are both leaps and bounds better than the previous generation of MV* frameworks. if you are making the upgrade from backbone to either framework, you've already won.
lucidrains··on How Much Money Did Jonas Salk Forfeit By Not Patenting The Polio Vaccine?

lucidrains··on Pay No Attention to the Bloody Corpse in the Bathroom
The version I heard among my colleagues was that only after the police was brought in did the university sped up it's investigations.
lucidrains··on Pay No Attention to the Bloody Corpse in the Bathroom
Recently one of the pediatric residents at my hospital was found watching child pornography in the call room. After being reported, the institution did nothing about it, and tried to sweep it under the rug. It bothers me that a prestigious academic institution would rather save face than to deal with a serious issue at hand.
lucidrains··on Are coders worth it?
Yes, coders are worth it. I've personally seen medicine up close, and have friends in various industries ranging from law to business. Everything is shit compared to the value software engineers create. Anyways, I don't think people should get their egos wrapped up into their careers, life is more than that. But I wouldn't undervalue what you are doing.
lucidrains··on Are coders worth it?
you have basically summed up my worldview and outlook for the future in a few paragraphs. i look forward to a time when we automate everyone out of a job, and it will be a better future for all of us. i have to admit there may be industries on the horizon that may be beyond our comprehension, but it will no doubt require a symbiosis between man/machine.

i like your name too!

lucidrains··on Ask HN: Am I committing career suicide?
if anything, i feel like you should be more employable if you decided to pursue mobile development rather than continue on with .NET.
lucidrains··on OAuth.io - OAuth that just works.
the little programmer cartoon made me lol! good job!
lucidrains··on Your heart attack bill: $3,300 in Arkansas, $92,000 in California
The amount of bullshit I've seen in the hospital gives me little faith that any policy change will solve the problem.

The real solution lies in producing safe consumer usable technology that moves all diagnostics out of the hospital. When we can get our comp, CBC, liver enzymes all with a drop of blood on a 1$ chip, when everyone and their neighbors own low cost portable MRI machines, when we can all read our EKG right on our cellphones and have it be interpreted for us 24/7 holter monitor style. Then it would only takes a team of engineers to produce software to quickly crunch all the data to produce a picture of our health... and save everyone from that expensive trip to the hospital.
