luc_··on How NASA Repaired Voyager 1 from 15B Miles Away
Yes, C++ may even be too far. Writing C in a very regimented way to run on very old processors by today's standards is 'aerospace grade (tm)'.
luc_··on Help us invent CSS Grid Level 3, a.k.a. "Masonry" layout
Looks convenient, but another step towards a monoculture internet. :(
luc_··on WiFi without internet on a Southwest flight
this is such a wholesome nerd post. i love it.
luc_··on Artificial General Intelligence – A gentle introduction
You need theory before you get implementation.

luc_··on San Francisco office values fall
Perhaps this will assist in catalyzing the transition for SF's economy becoming actually sustainable.
luc_··on Better alternatives to git submodules
Why wouldn't you just keep a local version? Do you have a "top git project" for checking out others? Seems like it could be convenient, I suppose.
luc_··on Okta says its GitHub account hacked, source code stolen
IMO, it's a bit weird they would even host their source code on open-facing GitHub. Of course I don't know the whole story, but seems like a company dealing with security would benefit from hosting their on VCS, perhaps GitHub enterprise, behind a VPN..?
luc_··on Tencent WeChat is now a GitHub secret scanning partner
They had to have titled it like this on purpose. I almost spat out my tea.
luc_··on A Linux Evening
Been there... Especially when I was in high school with older Ubuntu flavors and trying to dual boot Windows. Booting constantly got fucked up.
luc_··on 100 Gbps achieved from space to Earth
Does this have implications for real-time satellite video data?
luc_··on Amazon’s Quest for the ‘Holy Grail’ of Robotics
From a technical perspective, sure.

How Amazon is using this? Nah.

luc_··on Amazon’s Quest for the ‘Holy Grail’ of Robotics
This is not and should not be touted as the "holy grail of robotics".
luc_··on Microsoft 3D Movie Maker from 1995 Is Now Open-Source
We are the rats

We are the rats

luc_··on Capturing robot data so we can debug it later
Nice... I've built a very similar toolset in the past. Cool to see it open-sourced. Nice work.
luc_··on Ask HN: Easing wife onto Linux laptop How to?
>It is going to sound a little weird and if it does not belong here, let me know and I will remove the post, but I am looking for some advice.

Seems pretty weird, maybe you should remove the post and let your wife choose her own OS that suits her needs.

luc_··on Show HN: I'm building an open-source Amazon
Thank you.

That's just like your opinion, man.
luc_··on The entrance to a small personal site
I wish I could try `get flask`.
luc_··on I don't like computers (2016)
Perhaps using them, but outside of work, yeah -- good point.

Unless you get the dude who's /reaaaaaallllyyyyy/ into hammers... Yeah - Paul, he's a bit odd, but we love him.

luc_··on I don't like computers (2016)
I think there is something to be said (by someone willing to put more thought into it) regarding how much we as a society have churned away at computing and turned into something /refined/... Perhaps an analogy of what I'm thinking is people chewing coca leaves vs snorting cocaine? Maybe too extreme, or not extreme enough?
luc_··on I don't like computers (2016)
I agree -- it's pretty clear to me that the author has found a difference between their work, which they still find enjoyment from (perhaps because they are good at it?), and their non-work life.

I can relate somewhat -- I love tech -- robotics, in particular -- but have lately become a bit disappointed with the current state it in product world. Thankfully I'm also in a state where I can reflect upon why I feel that way, and then muster the energy to do something about it.

Perhaps this is a reflection upon the age of the author too. I suspect as I get older, I'm going to want towards more "wholesome" things -- as I define that word.

That being said, to each their own.

luc_··on Beyond Meat signs global supply deals with McDonald’s, KFC and Pizza Hut
You should flip through some pages of "How Not To Die" by Michael Greger some time...
