lsv1··on Want Perfect Pitch? You Might Be Able To Pop A Pill For That
I never figured I'd need to hack my vocal cords... or that I'd see a post like this on HN...
lsv1··on How Daft Punk Created One of Their Most Famous Samples
But he gives bad advice regarding the warping of samples. After Ableton 7.0 was released the warping system changed from move the time into the sample to move the sample into the time. He's trying to use Ableton 8.0's warping mechanism the same way it worked in 7.0.

Granted the end result is the same, however, Ableton 9.0 defaults to the newer warping system.

It is unfair to give this advice to the viewer.

lsv1··on France's Carmat implants its first artificial heart in human
Why does it need to pump or emulate a real heart? Could one not create the same in a much smaller form factor with lower power usage?
lsv1··on Regex Golf
Fun learning tool for regex.
lsv1··on Australis is landing in Firefox Nightly
I've noticed the reverse with Firefox, closing an instance with 20 tabs takes quite some time. However I've yet to notice Chrome take any time in opening 20 tabs.
lsv1··on Australis is landing in Firefox Nightly
How about we get a Firefox that doesn't use a gig of RAM for 10 tabs? Or perhaps isn't slower than IE9 in jscript?
lsv1··on Background Job Processing for Atheists
This is fantastic. Firebase.js is spectacular.
lsv1··on Ask HN: Which recurring tasks have you automated?
I needed a way of backing up mysql without writing a script to lock down the front-end (fancy isdown page), stop the webapp (just a php script that pulls data out of various APIs), stop mysql, perform the backup, then start everything back up.

So I run two instances of mysql, one is PROD and the other is read only replication. I can backup the read only replicated mysql instance without having to stop anything in production.

I am looking into the same for my nosql db's right now.

Regards,

lsv1··on Use a Google Spreadsheet as your JSON backend
I did the same in php and posted about it here, it's the poor man's DB http://sastrestuff.wordpress.com/2013/10/12/poor-mans-sql/
