I think the average HNer is just like Thiel when it comes to their own beliefs. Give them money, a podcast, and just sit back and watch the horror.
ls-a··on iOS 26.1 lets users control Liquid Glass transparency
So now I have to go to settings to get rid of it. That's worse. Even more work for me.
ls-a··on How one of the longest dinosaur trackways in the world was uncovered in the UK
Lots of crap about dinosaurs being real. I like that nothing in the overhead shot of tracks indicate that dinosaurs existed. This place is indeed a big deal for certain type of theories that need clay to become tangible.
ls-a··on [dead]
I agree. I think people who are criticizing him have similar behavior when it comes to their own beliefs, but they're hiding it from the public. What makes Thiel seem crazy is the fact that his behavior is slightly more mainstream than the average individual.

I advise you to travel more, meet a larger diversity of humans. You seem to be suffering a non-covid-related loneliness mental breakdown
ls-a··on CPU cache-friendly data structures in Go
reminds me of cache oblivious data structures
ls-a··on Blood Glucose Pixel Clock
user name checks out. Seriously though it might be useful if you're already doing continuous monitoring or thinking to start if it helps.
ls-a··on Launch HN: Cactus (YC S25) – AI inference on smartphones
Chatgpt could spit me the same optimizations they're doing in a few minutes. They're very generic optimizations that anyone who wants to work on mobile should do. Looks like they're planning to troll the competition with lawsuits using this license.
ls-a··on Samsung taking market share from Apple in U.S. as foldable phones gain momentum
What I meant was using the outer screen while folded (e.g. Z Flip models)
ls-a··on Samsung taking market share from Apple in U.S. as foldable phones gain momentum
Foldable phones are selling like hot cakes outside the U.S. but I don't know about the U.S. market. Could be catching up.

Here are some things to know about folding phones

   1. They're like expensive cars. Do not own one without a warranty
   2. As soon as the new model comes out, swap it in
   3. If you're into smaller phones, they're a good option
   4. They are not for the financially conscious. Those things are kind of a status symbol
ls-a··on iPhone Air
We're already in the trifold era. Check this video to see some useful features https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vp5i0jQggK4
ls-a··on iPhone Air
Someone else commented that the reason the iPhone Air is so thin is the result of Apple building a folding phone (they have to be thin). I agree. The iPhone Air basically looked like a low hanging fruit while they're still at it. Apple is known to take its time so that makes sense
ls-a··on Experimenting with Local LLMs on macOS
I thought Apple MLX can do that if you convert your model using it https://mlx-framework.org/
ls-a··on Immich – High performance self-hosted photo and video management
I can't get past the name. So cringe makes me not want to come near it
ls-a··on Show HN: Amber – better Beeper, a modern all-in-one messenger
Anything is automatically better than Beeper
ls-a··on The maths you need to start understanding LLMs
Is that you Will Hunting
ls-a··on Show HN: Writing Arabic in English
Reminds me of Yamli (https://www.yamli.com/arabic-keyboard/) which lets you type in English and transliterates it to Arabic. For example you type habibi and it transliterates it to حبيبي.
ls-a··on Show HN: Magic links – Get video and dev logs without installing anything
They charge per video minutes (limited minutes per pricing tier). So maybe yes in enterprise tier
ls-a··on Blood oxygen monitoring returning to Apple Watch in the US
It's time for Cook to cook out really
ls-a··on OpenAI's new GPT-5 models announced early by GitHub
Then you have engineers that will agree with the manager on everything
ls-a··on OpenAI's new GPT-5 models announced early by GitHub
This works well with managers. They think if the task title on jira is a one liner, then it's that simple to implement.
ls-a··on Small changes that made our daily stand-ups more useful
I agree. The best experience i had was with a startup that had zero video calls and audio calls were rare.
ls-a··on M8.7 earthquake in Western Pacific, tsunami warning issued
Now that things have calmed i can say that the webcam chats were very entertaining
ls-a··on My 2.5 year old laptop can write Space Invaders in JavaScript now (GLM-4.5 Air)
Apple is going to make so much money if they keep pushing on-device LLMs. It makes absolute sense to sell more macbook pros
ls-a··on Sign in with Google in Chrome
Thank you. I have been wanting to disable that popup forever
ls-a··on Launch HN: Hyprnote (YC S25) – An open-source AI meeting notetaker
I'm glad you figured that out early on. Sounds like mobile is going to be great indeed
ls-a··on Launch HN: Hyprnote (YC S25) – An open-source AI meeting notetaker
Looks great. From my experience Tauri team has no clue what mobile is and they're not interested in fixing mobile issues. I can already tell the mobile version will be a disappointment.
ls-a··on Windsurf employee #2: I was given a payout of only 1% what my shares where worth
