>This can be good, you know

No, it's not. Non-factual, non-evidence based worldview is part of the problem humanity has right now in the post-fact era.

>The idea is that everyone will be good if they are afraid of judgement day

I reject the notion that people can be good just because they are afraid of some powerful entity judging them. People are good because it's the right and rational thing to do. If they aren't good now, the environment is to blame which made them bad people.

>... "scientists") did not substitute it with something that works as well. Not even close. It didn't even try.

It's not the job of science to make sure people don't do bad things. Science can point to a problem, it's us, the people, who need to solve the problem.

Religion has nice side effects (community), but vast downsides (non-scientific worldview, brainwashing). I think you can get the community feeling also by simply meeting with people you know, in hackerspaces for instance.
lpcvoid··on Ibuilt a tiny Unix‑like 'OS' with shell and filesystem for Arduino UNO (2KB RAM)
>// The descriptive files (i.e., README and QUICKSTART) were written by Claude AI (with minor tweaks). Why? Because if I had done it myself, it would have ended up as a few lines of incoherent gibberish that wouldn't tell you anything.//

I would have enjoyed your lines of gibberish far more than the slop that Claude spit out.

But it's a cool project, thank you for sharing.

lpcvoid··on AI Resistance: some recent anti-AI stuff that’s worth discussing
Why is this downvoted? Rednecks in the Flyover states voted against their interest for the last 30 years.
lpcvoid··on AI Resistance: some recent anti-AI stuff that’s worth discussing
Good, every little bit counts. Poison them data wells.
lpcvoid··on WebUSB Extension for Firefox
Fair, but remember that we are the <~1% of people who even know what webusb is. I'm not sure I share your view on this.

Maybe an about:config switch to enable it would be enough to stop casuals from pwning their peripherals.

lpcvoid··on WebUSB Extension for Firefox
How do you make sure that technically illiterate people don't just click away the requestDevice() popup? IMHO a browser offering device level USB access is a security nightmare and there is no way this can ever be made safe and convenient at the same time.
lpcvoid··on Swiss authorities want to reduce dependency on Microsoft
What? There's loads of hardware vendors out there. And I'd throw in Linux over google and apple.
lpcvoid··on College instructor turns to typewriters to curb AI-written work
>why aren't they creating schoolwork that requires AI?

Because this makes a subscription a requirement for education, and thus advances the grift that is subscriptions, rent-seeking and dependence on a service. This isn't something we should ingrain into our children from an early age.

Calculators were buy once, use forever. Subscriptions to slop generators are a long term dependency and I want my children to not be exposed to that until they can decide for themselves.

VC money needs to be burned and shareholder value was promised
lpcvoid··on The beginning of scarcity in AI
The future is now, I guess
lpcvoid··on Bluesky has been dealing with a DDoS attack for nearly a full day
We are taking about bluesky, not Twitter.
lpcvoid··on European civil servants are being forced off WhatsApp
No idea why this is down voted. Ai makes people dumber and kills problem solving skills over a long timespan.
lpcvoid··on Backblaze has stopped backing up OneDrive and Dropbox folders and maybe others
Hetzner storagebox. 1TB for under 5 bucks/month, 5TB for under 15. Sftp access. Point your restic there. Backup game done, no surprises, no MBAs involved.
lpcvoid··on Taking on CUDA with ROCm: 'One Step After Another'
Up until recently they didn't even support their cashcow Ryzen 395+ MAX properly. Idk about the argument that they only care about certain chips.
lpcvoid··on Seven countries now generate nearly all their electricity from renewables (2024)
In the UK, Reform probably gets paid by russia to be anti-renewable, I highly doubt they believe that themselves.
lpcvoid··on DOJ Top Antitrust Litigators Exit After Ticketmaster Accord
Republicans will be happy about this because owning the libs is all they care about, and only whiny liberals listen to concerts in their worldview.
lpcvoid··on Dropping Cloudflare for Bunny.net
I am pro-EU and anti-nationalist. This works because the EU is a collection of states.
lpcvoid··on Dropping Cloudflare for Bunny.net
Try desec.io, I use them and am very happy. Free DNSSEC, which some other DNS hosters want to charge you for (IONOS, looking at you).
lpcvoid··on Are We Idiocracy Yet?
Because it would explain what's happening in the world after 2019.
lpcvoid··on I used AI. It worked. I hated it
Nah, my theory is that people hyping slop programming are the sort of people who sucked at programming beforehand, and LLMs hide that pretty well.
lpcvoid··on I used AI. It worked. I hated it
The way I see it, the kid has a dangerous dependency on at least one expensive service, cannot solve problems by himself and highly likely doesn't understand core concepts of programming and computers in general.

Yeah I dread the software landscape in 10 years, when people will have generated terabytes of unmaintainable slop code that I need to fix.

lpcvoid··on How many products does Microsoft have named 'Copilot'?
Nah, especially in technology it's very easy to avoid Microslop. I've done it successfully for many, many years.
lpcvoid··on German men 18-45 need military permit for extended stays abroad
You started with bringing Ukraine up under an article about Germany, so how is your comment any less a whataboutism than mine?
lpcvoid··on German men 18-45 need military permit for extended stays abroad
And russia has been violating this too, along with other much worse things, as usual.

I can see the rest, but why did you mix in Wayland, a open source display protocol?

lpcvoid··on Apple is blocking vibe coding apps from the App Store. We mocked them for it
IMO, from looking at the Bloom website, it's not a devtool, it's a Vibecoding tool. And as such, output from it should be blocked from the Appstore in my view. Not sure if that's what you were going at, I may have misunderstood you.
lpcvoid··on Apple is blocking vibe coding apps from the App Store. We mocked them for it
Apple is on the good side here, IMO. I hope they continue blocking slop.
lpcvoid··on Copilot edited an ad into my PR
I am doing my very small part by migrating large part of family and my employer away for a few years now. The world is better without Microslop. Buy unfortunately I know that this isn't always possible.
lpcvoid··on Copilot edited an ad into my PR
Once again, Microslop doing Microslop things
