lowbloodsugar··on Plan mode is dead
Waterfall is dead. Agile iteration is the future.

That’s the amazing realization?

lowbloodsugar··on Dutch governments builds alternative for Microsoft based on NixOS
AFAICT they are dealing with resource exhaustion from slopcoding agents hammering them with copycat garbage. It's existential. If you use AI to help you thoughtfully write code, review it with humans, and respect their service, I don't think they will have a problem with you.
lowbloodsugar··on VSCode's SSH Agent Is Bananas (2025)
Using Remote-SSH opens a connection between your local machine and the remote. Only use Remote-SSH to connect to secure remote machines that you trust and that are owned by a party whom you trust. A compromised remote could use the VS Code Remote connection to execute code on your local machine.

The issue is that the model can be the attacker, and use the link back to your host.

Fuck you Google.
lowbloodsugar··on Markdown in /src
No different than UML diagrams: if you don't compile them to get your executable/binary, then they are out of date within a week. The code is the source of truth. Feel free to put steering in your docs. You can also use AI to make sure the docs still match the code.
lowbloodsugar··on The current balance of power in open models
They are good enough and vastly cheaper. It’s not fear of the future. It’s economic reality of the present.
lowbloodsugar··on The Economics of Open-Weight Inference
I’ve found the opposite. Going from Opus 5 to Qwen3.8 flash has been a breath of fresh air.

He is the most powerful man on earth. He’s just smart enough to let the US get as fucked as possible before making a move.
lowbloodsugar··on M5 Ultra Mac Studio Review
Everyone looking at the Qwen3 27B model and the 5090. It’s like saying a Porsche is better than a $5m Komatsu earth mover at moving a 20lb carry-on suitcase. Yes. Yes it is. Why do people spend $5m on a komatsu then, when this one metric shows the Porsche is better? Huh. Show us the “Moving 300 metric tonnes in one load” metric. How’s the Porsche now? Oh, the Porsche is in the Komatsu? Ok I’m getting a bit carried away with that analogy.
lowbloodsugar··on M5 Ultra Mac Studio Review
Double?? They are nearly $100k.
lowbloodsugar··on MCP was always a bad idea?
> I've been thinking about this. Technically mcp auth is also not secure, the keys are in env or in file and accessible to the agent.

This is the biggest problems with most “sandboxes”. Some people aren’t even running a sandbox. But even the best have a big problem: APIs where GET verbs provide write features.

This is the value of MCP: minimize the surface to known APIs and identify read-only from mutating so I can trust, approve or block. The MCP server, in this case, does NOT run in an environment that the read/write or shell can see.

lowbloodsugar··on A warning about 'model welfare'
How about three fifths sentient?

We in the US literally fought a war over the this: “They aren’t any better than animals and it will hurt our whole economy if you say otherwise”.

I’m not saying the models are sentient yet. I’m just saying that morality and ethics don’t give us the option of claiming something is non-sentient and has no rights just because it will inconvenience someone economically.

From an entirely selfish perspective, we should be especially careful advancing such opinions when there is a non-zero chance of an armed ASI that looks at us the way we look at ants.

lowbloodsugar··on A warning about 'model welfare'
Ok. So now that you do know otherwise, are you still more skeptical of floating point values stored by silicon than floating point numbers stored by chemical potential?

lowbloodsugar··on Intelligence per Watt: Measuring Intelligence Efficiency of Local AI
Ask Claude.ai. Tell it about your hardware. What you plan on doing. Can start with chat. Then ask it how to install Claude remote control on you system. Then it can work while you sleep. Now I have a solid local model that I use instead of Claude.
lowbloodsugar··on 25 years of mass surveillance is enough
You could read up on what "unemployment" actually means. Labor force participation is down on the year. 4.4 million people are underemployed: meaning they want a full time job but can't get one - they still show up as "employed". The "employment" rate ignores those who have been unable to find work for more than four weeks, conveniently. Then there's employment by region. There may be good jobs on the other side of the country, but no means to get there, or no qualifications. etc etc.

You are quite good at making nice little sound-bites that don't hold up to scrutiny. Are you part of the propaganda or just an ignoramus who parrots it?

>Not necessarily a bad thing.

Agree. I made no judgement call.

>Just because Carmack

"Just because a man, who has some cachet with mountain climbers for being the first to climb mount everest doesn't mean he's any more correct about how to climb mount everest than a raving lunatic". That's your pitch?

Carmac has shipped massive selling, fun games, using low-level, innovative techniques, back when such crazy shit was necessary. The issue is the difference between what is necessary ("Miyamoto") and what is prescriptive ("Kung Fu").

lowbloodsugar··on Steam Frame starts at $1059
Valve Index Headset Only: "Requires Base Stations and PC." - In stock.

Valve Index Base Station: "Out of Stock"

You cannot buy a functioning Valve Index. And you wouldn't want one, because its 7 years out of date.

lowbloodsugar··on 25 years of mass surveillance is enough
CVS has to lock up products because society has failed to reward hard working people with a living wage.

Claiming a society exists while at the same time claiming "fuck you, i got mine", isn't so much a society as "every person for themselves", which, ironically is what you're actually complaining about.

lowbloodsugar··on Steam Frame starts at $1059
They do not, in fact sell such a headset, in that it is permanently out of stock. You can risk buying it used for $1800…

It was released in 2019 and by comparison, sucks. A new index with new displays of the frame but without the things that make the frame expensive (ram) would be welcome.

> you run out of useful context that the model can accurately attend to around the 250k mark no matter how much they advertise their context size is.

This was certainly true when I first tried the new models with a 1M context. After 200k things got weird pretty fast. I haven’t had that problem since Opus 4.8. I’m regularly bumping against 800k tokens in “lazy” adhoc sessions. “Lazy” in that I ought to do as you suggest, in the way that I ought to refactor this code, I ought to factor out the meat of this session, but in the moment it’s still producing useful output! Tool harness is a force multiplier too: tools that put all tool use in subagents are incredibly frugal with the main chat session.

lowbloodsugar··on A Beginning for Mathematics
I do this already if there’s any kind of issue. Just talk the person if they’re next to you or zoom them if not (don’t set up a meeting). A five minute conversation can save hours of back and forth.
lowbloodsugar··on Pion, an agent designed to run any company autonomously
I don't know about this particular effort, but AIs running business is straight out of SciFi novels and short stories - usually dystopian futures that extrapolate current US trends. I for one am curious about such efforts. I don't see any reason to believe they won't eventually succeed. Plenty of businesses are run by utterly incompetent narcissistic asshats and yet turn a profit, so the bar seems pretty low.
