low_common··on Christopher Tolkien has died
Yeah but unless you've read the books, his character is a bit esoteric for the movies.
low_common··on Christopher Tolkien has died
Can you elaborate a bit on what you mean by the portrayal of Aragorn "falling a bit flat"?

Perhaps he was a bit too gruff or something, especially in the Fellowship of the Ring? I could possibly see that because in the book he was definitely clear-cut 'rough and ready good-guy'.

low_common··on Finland is considering a four-day week
Finland seems like the best country in the world- minus the freezing weather and short winter days.

Can someone paste the article here? There's a paywall for me.
low_common··on Go Turns 10
Agree with you on all of your points. I picked up Go in my senior year of college because it seemed interesting. None of my peers had heard of it. This led to my first job out of college where the company's backend was written in Go. Haven't looked back.
low_common··on YC, not Lambda School, is unbundling education
Don't you only have like a 1% chance of getting into YC? Not knocking what you're saying, just pointing out that getting into a solid MBA program != getting through YC. I feel like getting through YC means you're already good enough at the business side of things to at least come up with a viable business model.

low_common··on ‘China’s Manhattan’ Borrowed Heavily, but the People Have Yet to Arrive
Can you elaborate on your second sentence? Are you referring to the empty rural homes that these people left behind?
low_common··on U.S. teens are spending less time with their friends in person
For sure. Here in NYC, I at least see kids walking home and hanging out with each other. If you can afford it, I'd say it's a great place to raise a kid.
low_common··on U.S. teens are spending less time with their friends in person
I want my kids to either grow up in a huge city like NYC where I live or a rural area. I spent a year in a small town in rural NC and your kids can grow up wild.

I think the suburbs are the stifling force here. They're too safe.
