lovich··on CEO fired developers to make room for AI. Developers create open source AI CEO
They were literally in cahoots to keep wages down, you can’t hand wave it away as nonsense when it’s factually occurred.

You do have bad actors amongst labor but everytime labor tries to coordinate together the union crushing apparatus comes out so you don’t tend to see as much coordinated bad activity.

And with AI we’re not seeing companies chomping at the bit to make all their employees more productive left and right, we’re seeing them chomping at the bit to see how many employees they can cut

There’s some projects trying to figure out carbon capture that’s net negative for co2 emissions like Vesta[1], but yea, we haven’t done nearly enough.

Luigi should just done something that caused each of their executives to lose 10 years off their lifespan without actually killing them. Then he would have gotten rid of an entire lifetime but because it’s spread out, you couldn’t call him a murderer.

> I also object to the constant claims of conspiracy among capital holders. Capital holders are also in extremely fierce competition with each other, and they are in turn beholden to consumers / buyers, etc.

Cause we’ve never seen capital holders collude to keep wages down. Certainly never in the technology industry. It’s just pure competition as nature intended.[1]

lovich··on How much of HN is AI?
That is not an explanation of how this technology won’t follow an S curve and can just be extrapolated out for infinite growth
lovich··on How much of HN is AI?
Which previous explanation did I ignore?

The only one I saw upon review was

> Extrapolation of the extreme AI progress we have seen in the last few years.

I don’t think that’s a viable extrapolation hence my mockery about a 3 month old being trillions of pounds by the time they were 10 years old.

If there was another explanation please let me know so I can evaluate it.

lovich··on How much of HN is AI?
> AI is not limited to the rigid construction plan of an organism.

This is some AI psychosis shit.

Explain how you think extrapolating off of 4-5 years of growth(I’m being generous here) means the development is asymptomatic instead of reaching a plateau like every other aspect of physics.

Are you one of those people who believes Anthropics claim that they will have the revenue of the entire United States yearly for their IPO?

lovich··on How much of HN is AI?
My 3 month old son is now twice as big as when he was born.

He’s on track to weigh 7.5 trillion pounds by the age of 10.

There’s nothing proving that this technology won’t be an S curve growth like every other before it.

lovich··on How much of HN is AI?
Shit we’re onto thinking ASI is happening soon? I guess people hyped up AGI so much that it’s no longer thrilling to talk about despite not getting to that point either.

lovich··on AI is hitting entry-level jobs hardest, Stanford study finds
The terms involve the person paying back the training costs or some penalty if they quit before X years.

I saw it once at the beginning of my career but that was nearly 15 years ago.

US companies are usually unwilling to enter into any contract with labor because they want the ability to renege on the deal at will, hence the at will states.

You see companies making contracts like this with other companies all the time, so I can only assume it’s a cultural value to never make a deal with labor.

lovich··on AI is hitting entry-level jobs hardest, Stanford study finds
The United States corporate culture has reached a failure mode of game theory. The average corporation is allergic to spending any money on training and has pushed all of the costs onto labor.

They hope that some other moron will take up the costs and then they can poach the trained employee for cheap, while any corporation that does actually train feels like they should get the employee for cheap afterwards instead of compensating the employee at market rate.

Simultaneously the average corporation refuses to do something like have a contract with the employee for X years of labor at a set rate in the exchange for the training because they are also allergic to not being able to change their minds and lay off half their staff the next year.

This would be a place for the government to come in and force everyone to pick the good square on the prisoner’s dilemma, but yet again, our corporate culture is allergic to regulation or cooperation.

You can still get through a winter or two by eating your seed corn so I guess we’ll just continue barreling down this path.

lovich··on Anthropic Sees over $30T in Potential Revenue
As far as I am aware, they have yet to make a single dollar in profit.

At some point selling a dollar for 5 cents stops being a viable strategy.

lovich··on Where did all the public bathrooms go?
ah I see. Anything that is currently not being done is infeasible.
lovich··on Oceans hit highest temperature on record
Did I not link data showing the government is currently spending billions of dollars to ensure that renewable energy projects are cancelled?
lovich··on Where did all the public bathrooms go?
>I think it is infeasible because I saw restrooms become less numerous and more restricted over the past 4 decades.

Cool.

My point was that I was a minimum wage worker and still cleaning toilets. Did it for minimum wage. There were many other coworkers doing the same.

You said

> Try hiring someone for a job where the job could sometimes be cleaning up bodily fluids and odors in a bathroom. Even the government deems it infeasible.

That's only plausible if you were unwilling to do so yourself and couldn't conceive of anyone else doing the job.

Its literally one of the lowest paid jobs there is.

If you are claiming its infeasible to pay for someone to do that job, you are just saying you dont think that anyone should be paid to do the job.

lovich··on Oceans hit highest temperature on record
But the government is still paying billions of dollars to end renewable projects because they dont like said contracts, right?
lovich··on Oceans hit highest temperature on record
> Cancelling those contracts IS letting the market decide

They didnt cancel the contracts, they paid the companies to stop doing work that those companies(i.e. the market) wanted to do

> Further, offshore wind is expensive in terms of maintenance. Stopping the project now is protecting billions in expenses in the future.

Source yourself that this is worth it as per the market if you are going to claim this is a market decision

lovich··on Oceans hit highest temperature on record
> The other stupid political battle here is boycotting Tesla. How does that make sense? We "punish" Elon by using more fossil fuels.

There are other EV manufacturers. Boycotting Tesla != buying ICE vehicles. That’s a bad faith framing.

lovich··on Oceans hit highest temperature on record
I would have agreed with you on giving credit but we did an about face in the last 2 years and now are spending billions of dollars to pay off companies that were already building renewables because we failed when trying to just illegally cancel them[1]

We’re not letting the market handle it and we’re going in a backwards direction. Can’t really crow about our accomplishments given that.

lovich··on Where did all the public bathrooms go?
Was a cart pusher at target and was frequently shanghaid into cleaning toilets.

I think you might be giving away the class you were raised in if you think it’s infeasible to pay people to clean toilets.

lovich··on Where did all the public bathrooms go?
> Then take any shopping mall in Bangkok

That is an extremely small subset of Thailand. I wouldn’t surprised if high end malls in any western capital city also had good toilets.

Most toilets outside of malls in Thailand were bring your own soap and toilet paper and covered in water from the bum guns.

lovich··on Erik Brynjolfsson says an AI "job apocalypse" is unlikely
> You get experience by having an active interest, doing projects on your own, and not needing it spoonfed to you.

Aka, pushing training costs onto labor instead of capital.

We’ve been doing this in an accelerated fashion for decades and this is the next step on that treadmill.

US companies used to hire at entry level and train employees in the high level skills they needed.

You’ll find many people wailing and gnashing their teeth about how those entry levels will jump ship as soon as they get trained. Nothing is stopping them from paying market rate for those newly trained people.

Nothing is also stopping them from making a contract that you have to work for them for X years post training or return the training costs other than the allergy US firms have with making any sort of contract with labor that doesn’t let them fire them at a moments notice.

lovich··on Felony charges for citizen deleting phone data at US Border
I was pointing out how due process is no longer the iron clad protection under this current admin as they have just redefined who gets due process.

You can, and should, try to protect yourself as much as possible. That still doesn’t change the fact that the current admin will just ignore the rule of law and ship you off to a third party country because they decided they didn’t like you.

I have other opinions on what you should do in the face of a government that doesn’t follow the rule of law but I will be banned from this website if I state them out loud.

lovich··on Felony charges for citizen deleting phone data at US Border
According to this admin due process is only for citizens, and since we’ve claimed you aren’t a citizen you have no due process to prove otherwise.
lovich··on The US techlash is real
It doesn’t help that the tech leaders are at the forefront of an increasing amount of wealth disparity as many people are seeing themselves drop down in class due to this K shaped economy.

Then to top it off they just aren’t charismatic at best, or actively disdainful of the plebs at worst.

Bezos is probably the best at speaking to regular people but then you have guys like Musk who if he was just a blue collar stiff, would be getting his ass beat frequently if he showed up to bars and acted the way he does.

lovich··on Japan tried to build an operating system for the world, the US intervened
We already saw that happened when Russia invaded Georgia in ~2008. Which I’ll also point out to the people in this thread who are incredulous at the idea that Russia would go on to invade another country if Ukraine had folded as fast as they expected, is already proof that they had no real intentions on just Ukraine.
lovich··on Japan tried to build an operating system for the world, the US intervened
That’s crazy. I guess Ukraine must have fallen in the 3 day operation and definitely hasn’t stalemated the larger country. Might as well pack it up and go home since they’ve lost all their territory and resources.

I have a passing interest in mathematics and especially comp sci but I routinely find myself stymied just by trying to understand the notation.

lovich··on Cop Explains Why He Used License Plate Reader to Stalk Woman
If there is precedent set saying selling $ITEM is illegal in a given jurisdiction , should a company be selling it?

Is it dystopian if a company doesn’t sell fentanyl to a police precinct because it’s up to the police to decide and the company should just give them whatever they ask for?

edit: lol at your response that’s flagged before I could reply. No consistency in morals, just sweeping for destruction of the rule of law.

In a paraphrase of your own words, it’s just some criticism bro.
