lolizbak··on Dress.me: Because Guys Hate to Shop
Yep, that's exactly it : the difference between men and women - or at least me and my girlfriend, to avoid generalization :) - is that we know what and where to buy what we need.

When she goes out 'shopping', it defines a hobby, whereas it defines an concrete action for men. At least I guess :) (please don't call me macho !)

lolizbak··on Dress.me: Because Guys Hate to Shop
There's a startup in France doing that : http://dress-me.fr/beta They are polishing the beta, but the app is pretty solid. On wider range, social shopping and social fashion have been really hot lately, and over the past 2 years.

I've worked on http://styyler.com for some time (never finalized it), and we were inspired by the fashism.com, polyvore.com ($8M funding), chictopia.com, lookbook.nu, weardrobe.com (acquired by Like.com), chicisimo.com, ...

lolizbak··on Open Letter to Seed Investors
You've had the chance to sit on "both sides of the table" in a vibrant startup ecosystem. Also, the average BA/VC in NYC (or the valley or Boston) is way more tech/startup savvy the avg BA/VC elsewhere... Getting feedback on your day to day operations or mid-term decisions is even more harder the further you get from major tech hubs. In France, the avg entrepreneur know WAY more about the industry than the avg investor ... i guess. Great post, thx !

Sorry, missed it. Thx!

Wow.
lolizbak··on Tell HN: just made my first dollar on the Internet from my freemium web app
This must feel good indeed, congrats! You just did the MVP of customer development. And a great prototype for brand monitoring. Good luck!

It's always good when VCs publicly reflect on missed opportunities. As a reminder, here is the incredible (and fun) list of Bessemer anti-portfolio : http://www.bvp.com/portfolio/antiportfolio.aspx

Pretty neat, but you could maybe sort/filter with specific hashtags ?
lolizbak··on Why you can('t) recruit a technical co-founder
Reminds me of the post by Mark Suster => invest in lines, not in dots : http://www.bothsidesofthetable.com/2010/11/15/invest-in-line...

I think it goes the same way for (co)founders: partner in lines, not in dots. Your relationship with potential cofounders shouldn't start the day you're looking for one.

lolizbak··on Programmable inpluse watch checks into Facebook places
Talk about FB addiction... It's actually something that RunKeeper integrated for the NYC Marathon last year, automatically checking you in at various milestones.
lolizbak··on Twitter Users Most Followed by Angels on AngelList
Don't know if what to think about it : actually surprised that many of them are or aren't (yet?) on AngelList... I count 34 in the top 100. Remove the non-individuals (TechCrunch, Sequoia Cap, SAI, ...), that's about ~40%. Is this a lot ? Is this only a few ?
lolizbak··on How did Launch Conference compare to TechCrunch50 (TechCrunch Disrupt)?
Obviously, far far far away from a YC investor day... Wondering how you get to perfect relevance ration for a demo pit (quality of startups, quality of investors, quality of press, ...).
lolizbak··on How to Keep Your First 1,000 Users
Great list indeed.. And the key points are focusing on a niche (cheap, easy, close, ...) before expanding. BUT even though Foursquare did that in New York to begin with, the speed of expansion afterwards is important too. Foursquare went from 1 city to 100+ in a bit less than a year opening slots of new cities every second month or so. As Groupon did that in a shorter period of time. The conclusion simply being (i guess) : once your model (product, business) is proven locally on a niche, don't wast time and get global fast.
lolizbak··on Show HN: what I coded during the Foursquare Hackathon
Really neat idea. You should explain the backstage though, for a less deceptive experience.
lolizbak··on What makes Quora, Hashable, Plancast and the likes viral social apps?
Ok, two things : 1) i was looking at the viral/social features (graph integration, actions as "count me in", graph discovery, sharing features, ... 2) it's surprisingly taking off in europe, but with tech savvy early adopters, true.
