loeschg··on WP Engine launches git deployment for WordPress
I spent a good chunk of time last night working through this tutorial (http://wp.tutsplus.com/tutorials/hosting/wordpress-developme...) to set up git deployment for a new Wordpress site. sigh At least I learned some stuff?
loeschg··on Talent Acquisitions
Yeah it's just a tough situation. Even as a developer, I'm pretty sure I'd have trouble turning down a huge paycheck to go work for a reputable company. I've never built anything that's had a huge fan base though.

What are ways to show appreciation for a company/product you like aside from buying their product, tweeting an occasional praise, and liking their FB content? Is that enough?

loeschg··on GIT is the new FTP
That's interesting, haha. Would you or somebody be willing to give explanations for the instructions?
loeschg··on What to do if you are unhappy at your job.
I'd argue it's not that easy to up and quit a job if you have even just one variable added to the situation such as being limited to location. Maybe remote working is the answer. Know of any great remote jobs for Grails/Java developers?
loeschg··on Show HN: fontBomb - Stylishly destroy the web
Facebook is bomb proof.
loeschg··on Show HN: Iorad - the tutorial builder
Yeah something about it made me feel like I was looking at a "GET A FREE SUBSCRIPTION TO AWESOME MAGAZINE" sort of sign up. Also even though the text was stating that NO credit card info was needed, my super quick initial scan of the page saw the words "free" and "credit card," and the brain got confused.

Overall, I love the idea. Potentially solved an issue I didn't know I had.

loeschg··on Microsoft’s Downfall: Inside the Cannibalistic Culture That Felled a Tech Giant
Coming up on my first performance review at Accenture. I'll see how flawed the system is in a few weeks ;).

The problem is with what the viable alternative is for companies that are huge like this. It's just tough. Maybe we all just need to stop worrying about how other humans measure our performance/value.

loeschg··on Sublime Text 2.0 Released
For those interested, here's a way to get a block cursor when in Vi(ntage) mode. It can now be installed via package control (instructions have recommended that way to install for awhile, but I could never find it).

loeschg··on Sublime Text 2.0 Released
Yeah, I enjoy ST2 as well, but I know I'm missing out on a great deal of functionality. I'd love if somebody could point me to a good tutorial.

Edit: This was posted above... https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4162210. Somebody is apparently writing an ebook and the 1st chapter is available.

loeschg··on Why Diablo 3 is less addictive than Diablo 2: a scientific explanation
Could a reason for disappointment/changed degree of addiction have something to do with varied expectations over a course of time? Diablo II launched back in 2000, right? Not to say that game wasn't played years after, but I'm just thinking my opinion of a game like Diablo would have been quite a bit different that many years ago.
loeschg··on Building quality software for Android - A post-mortem for Tweagle
Missed that. Thanks. I'll tuck that little tidbit away for later use.
loeschg··on Building quality software for Android - A post-mortem for Tweagle
An application I'm currently building (shameless plug - www.quaffic.com) will definitely benefit from this post. If nothing else, I feel affirmed that we're on the right track. From what you're saying, the value of ACRA is huge. That's my big takeaway at this point. I wondered what the normal process was for getting crash reports from users.

Also, what did you end up doing to alleviate your JSONObject problem? JSONSmart?

loeschg··on Clinton and Operation AdWords: The Hack That Wasn’t
I wonder what their CTR's and CPC's are.
loeschg··on Open Source Guitar Effects Pedal
I was super excited about this until I saw the price tag. $300 definitely puts it into that "I'm gonna think 2x about buying this" categories. Not to say I wouldn't drop the cash if musicians I respect like it and use it.
loeschg··on Ask HN: What grammatical tense should I use when I commit to a repo?
Yep. Been discussed. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3580013/should-i-use-past...

The tl;dr - use present tense if working on large distributed (open-source) project where the commit may or may not be used. Use past tense if the change isn't really optional (people basically can only merge/rebase)... which applies to most projects.

loeschg··on Show HN: A directory of single-page sites and useful apps
Intrigued by Markup.io. I think I'll probably add this to my arsenal. http://markup.io/v/0fk6myfx7wk5
loeschg··on Say hello to Octicons
Haha, that's along the lines of what I was thinking. Meh. I sometimes wonder if Github could post something about feeding their company pet and make it to the top of HN. :)
loeschg··on CSS: The Good Parts
Same. I gleaned quite a few little tid-bits from this article. I started reading and was able to branch off with the provided links to get more in-depth information.
loeschg··on Google is making a huge and annoying mistake
The one video I checked still had the typical thumbs-up and thumbs-down feature.
loeschg··on The Cab Ride I'll Never Forget
Checking out that book. As a proclaimed Christ follower, I've recently found myself in discussions in which certain historical "facts" (I hesitated to put that in quotes) were tossed my direction which I felt unprepared to answer. As one who believes history to be a small thing to get caught up on given Christianity is about a lot more than that, I think it's very relevant and is a needed piece to intelligently discuss Biblical truth.
loeschg··on Socialcam Nabs Angel Funding From The A-List
Shane Battier and Ashton Kutcher. Interesting. I feel like there's a joke here...
loeschg··on OO JS in 15mins or Less
Thanks, I found this section from Addy on constructors helpful as well (to clear up some prototype confusion). http://addyosmani.com/resources/essentialjsdesignpatterns/bo...
loeschg··on A quick guide to our current privacy threats
All of these acronyms are starting to make my head spin, and in turn apathy is definitely creeping in. I was all about doing my part to stop SOPA/PIPA - migrating domain names away, shutting down my website on blackout day (those 6 visitors really missed it I'm sure). Now it's just kind of like... what do I do?
loeschg··on DEAR FRIEND IN GOD
That makes WAY more sense. Thanks. And +1 for using the word juxtaposition... or maybe -1. :)
loeschg··on DEAR FRIEND IN GOD
(With great hesitation...) What's the joke here?
loeschg··on Ask HN: Is this a normal developer hiring/recruitment process?
Ah, I see. That makes sense, and that's good to know.
loeschg··on Ask HN: Is this a normal developer hiring/recruitment process?
"if they can't distinguish between Grails and RoR they are unlikely to create sufficient product in their startup :)"

Haha, yeah, I mean regardless of why they thought that, it wasn't a positive mark on the company.

loeschg··on Ask HN: Is this a normal developer hiring/recruitment process?
Yeah, I mean that's along the lines of what I was thinking. If the company can't create what I created in a week, they've got other issues (not to say my skills are something everyone has... we're on the same page). Ultimately my reason for continuing with the process was learning... they can't steal that from me! :)
loeschg··on Ask HN: Is this a normal developer hiring/recruitment process?
I don't remember specifying anything for licensing... so probably licensed in a way where I'd have no protection. Should I pull my source (though it'd probably already be too late in the scenario I'm being duped)?
loeschg··on Ask HN: Is this a normal developer hiring/recruitment process?
I am located across the country... though there are A LOT of remote tools that could be used. I can see both sides.
