“Don’t use it to control autonomous weapons”

We agreed and [largely] adhere to chemical weapons bans; perhaps this could be treated similarly

Yeah, turns out Americans (rural or not) prefer creature comforts like Amazon and Netflix over exercising their 2A rights. All talk.

Just because ChatGPT says it sounds negative doesn’t mean it is. I didn’t think of it negatively either.

Who knows how ChatGPT made that suggestion [this time around]. Maybe 30% of the English-speaking population thinks it’s negative, or 60%, or perhaps someone simply wrote a high-profile negative op-ed that included the phrase in its title.

Anyways, not that you did this, but we need to be careful not to use LLMs as the deciding factor in how to feel about things. :) It gives too much power in swaying our thought to those who build the models.

lobsterthief··on Thanks a lot, AI: Hard drives are sold out for the year, says WD
I’ll add: if you’re using your drive as a NAS, use a drive model that’s meant for this purpose, and avoid SSDs

It didn’t read like that to me, at all. Also, did you mean to ask a question? :)
lobsterthief··on Vouch
That’s not true—it depends entirely on the country..

I work for a publisher that serves the Chinese market as a secondary market. Sucks that we can’t blanketly do this since we get hammered by Chinese bots daily. We also have an extremely old codebase (Drupal) which makes blanket caching difficult. Working to migrate from Cloudfront to Cloudflare at least
lobsterthief··on Hacking Moltbook
Claude is very good at writing SQL. You still need to review and understand it.

I recently started a new Supabase project and used Claude to write all migrations related to RLS and RBAC.

Damn this is a pretty crazy comment. Get help dude.

Yes, some people are still deep in the denial phase of the grief cycle [of losing our country]. I have many friends like that.

Ah, this makes sense. Am I hallucinating that columns widths used to be remembered many years back? In other words, in column view, if you resized a column for a given folder, close Finder, and reopen to that folder—it would remain the same width.

Finder is mostly unusable for any directory containing long filenames since it doesn’t remember this. But I swear it used to. Am I misremembering?

lobsterthief··on American importers and consumers bear the cost of 2025 tariffs: analysis
You misinterpreted my statement. OP was suggesting we should be suspicious because it’s from a Germany entity. I am not suspicious specifically due to it being from Germany.

Also, you are extremely ignorant and uneducated yourself. See, I used the same logic you did—knowing nothing about you and calling you uneducated. Feels good, doesn’t it?

lobsterthief··on American importers and consumers bear the cost of 2025 tariffs: analysis
Probably not enough to offset the regression tax.
lobsterthief··on American importers and consumers bear the cost of 2025 tariffs: analysis
As an American, I wasn’t suspicious at all. I don’t know anyone personally who I think would be, either.

Your comment serves nothing but to suggest anew that Americans _should_ be suspicious. Either that was your aim to begin with or you’re okay with that result.

Some of them stupidly print the account number on them. I mean, we do had out our account and routing number to people on checks, but we don’t give checks to the entire Internet.

My grandmother is currently dying from vascular dementia at 80. She sleeps all day. There’s really nothing you can do except keep them comfortable. There is no cure, only treatments for side effects unfortunately.

And yes, she smells weird ;) it’s mostly from change in normal hygiene. No matter how much you help clean them, they will smell different than they used to. And not good-different.

This is _not_ at all the same thing. Grok just ripped off Wikipedia as its base and then applied a biased spin to it. Check out the entry on Grok owner Elon Musk; it praises his accomplishments and completely omits or downplays most of his better-known controversies.

I’ve worked on large-scale LLM translations for a largish niche-topic publisher and I can attest this is a nuanced process. You have to create a manual feedback loop with a native speaker and use that to improve the prompt until it gets to a certain point.

The hardest so far was Japanese. The easiest, strangely enough, was Mandarin—which was like 97% accurate out of the box using Claude.

I remember that. To be honest it was exhausting. Fun, but exhausting. It’s nice now to have found a stack that is “just fine” for most things.

lobsterthief··on The privacy nightmare of browser fingerprinting
Yes, but you need a scalable and low-friction donation solution. Patreon is the closest but it doesn’t pay the bills for most creators. Maybe some micro-tipping solution, but nobody has made that work yet.
lobsterthief··on Microsoft AI CEO pushes back against critics after recent Windows AI backlash
It’s really becoming desperate and counterproductive.

I’ve had an Alfred command since 2013 where I type `wiki something` which then opens Confluence and searches for `something`. I use this to quickly search our company wiki for terms without breaking my concentration and flow.

Atlassian decided to add an AI summary at the top and intentionally disable the rest of the results until the AI summary has finished rendering fully. It’s insane. How is this making me more productive? It’s just shearing off one other layer of familiarity and value I’ve enjoyed for 12 years and pushing me away from their product.

Forced adoption rarely works out unless people really want the feature and don’t know that they want it. At the very least, let us disable it.
