lmedinas··on Chrome 69: “www.” subdomain missing from URL
i use Firefox @ work and @home for serious stuff. The only reason i don't use Firefox 100% is due to the Android app which is a lag fest.

Mozilla needs to put more resources on Android.

lmedinas··on Google Home Beats Amazon Echo in Q1 2018 Smart Speaker Shipments
What was a terrible experience compared to Amazon Echo ? Can you name a few examples ?
lmedinas··on Ask HN: What, if anything, do you listen to while coding?
I tried a bit of everything and its really random for me. As i metal/rock fan i rarely listen to the genre. Here is some artists to get you started that really help me focus on programing:

- Trent Reznor and NiN: Social Network, Ghosts and The Fragile.

- How to destroy Angels (also a subproject of Trent Reznor).

- Daft Punk: live album and Tron soundtrack.

- Miles Davis: Bitches Brew.

- RadioHead: OK Computer, KID A and Amnesiac.

- Gojira: Magma and From Mars to Sirius

- Opeth: Live at Royal Albert Hall

- U2: Songs of Inocence and Songs of Experience.

- Massive Attack: Mezzanine

- Blade Runner soundtrack.

- Interstellar soundtrack.

Recently Synthwave DJs

- Kavinsky: Outrun

- The Midnight: Any song (i really love these guys and the atmosphere they put into their songs).

Hope it helps you find a music for your mood.

lmedinas··on YouTube Music, a new music streaming service, is coming soon
Google does it with other products as well.

See for example the Instant messaging apps they have done: 0) Google Wave 1) Google Talk 2) Hangouts 3) Google Duo and Google Allo 4) Android Messaging 5) other ?

and of course of course the Task mess good has implemented in Google Assistant, Google Tasks, Google Calendar and Google Keep.

Seriously Google needs to plan better their brands and services.

lmedinas··on Zuckerberg hits users with the hard truth: You agreed to this
To be honest what really worries me is the people who have "agreed to this" without even realizing anything remotely closer to this. I mean people with poor education to publish everyday photos and texts into Facebook.
lmedinas··on A Message to Our Customers about iPhone Batteries and Performance
Same here i had a iPhone 6s and i had exactly the same problems you described.

1) Drop from 30% to 5% in some minutes. iOS 10.x fixed this issue.

2) Now with iOS 11 the battery does even last a day and the phone was extremely slow.

Sure i had issues in the past after 2 years with my Nexus 5 and Galaxy Nexus but both were kind of mid range price ~400 Euros.

But with a high end phone that cost 800 Euros I would expect better quality and also better costumer support.

This xmas i just got myself a ~350 Euros Android and i'm much more happy. After 2 years if the phone has battery issues or whatever i will not be so furious has i am now.

I've been recently moving away from Apple mainly due to Quality / Price ratio. I have a 2012 iMac which is basically useless except from Browsing on the Web. Other companies like Google, Amazon etc... ship good quality devices for much cheaper price. So for me i'm not thinking in buying anything else from Apple.

lmedinas··on Google Hangouts temporarily won’t support phone/video calls on Firefox
Not sure if they are better but at least you have FB messenger and Skype. All have desktop/web clients with video support? If anyone knows anything with more privacy focus and mobile clients please reply.
lmedinas··on Video calls for Signal now in public beta
Is there plans to bring Video calls to Desktop also ?

I will be interested in doing Video calls in a bigger screen, like iPad for example, is there any plans to expand this ? or is there any technical limitation like the phone number ?

lmedinas··on Iridium Browser – A Chromium-based browser focused on privacy
I think the point here is to offer a browser that does NOT report to Google or offer any Google services in order to give a more privacy oriented experience while keeping the same expectation a user has from Chrome.

Tor Browser on the other hand tries to be a very private oriented browser (blocks several features by default) and gives access to the Tor network.

lmedinas··on Container Tabs
This is why I ask when it will be enabled by default on Beta or Release. Any idea when is planned ?
lmedinas··on Container Tabs
Anyone know when this feature is planned to hit Beta or Stable ?
lmedinas··on DuckDuckGo Hits 14M Searches in a Single Day
Have you tried ddg.gg ?
lmedinas··on Physicists taking jobs as Silicon Valley software engineers
Don't forget about Dennis Richie, the creator of C programming, according to Wikipedia he holds a degree in Physics and Applied Maths[1].

lmedinas··on Choose Firefox Now, Or Later You Won't Get A Choice (2014)
Same here unfortunately i was not able find an alternative to chromecast that can work with Firefox.

Its these little things and in general Video support that I keep my Chrome installed. Most of the times i end up using Chrome at home more than Firefox.

lmedinas··on UBlock Origin for Safari
Which one do you recommend then ?

Is Firefox Focus better ?

lmedinas··on Firefox Focus – a free, fast and easy to use private browser for iOS
Why having a separate application with these features instead of adding them to Firefox for iOS ?

Is it planned to have content blockers support in Firefox for iOS ?

lmedinas··on Siemens to buy Mentor Graphics in $4.5B deal
Also related since both, Mentor and Harman, have a strong automotive business: https://news.samsung.com/global/samsung-electronics-to-acqui...
lmedinas··on Formation of Tesla Advanced Automation Germany
They already have problems getting and retaining talent.
lmedinas··on Most Germans don’t buy their homes, they rent
> On the other hand, many Germans believe: renting is paying someone else, buying is paying yourself (which is nonsense). Especially in more rural areas, buying/building a house is considered a big achievement in life. People are even willing to move from a smaller city to little towns just to be home-owners.

People change to small towns because they want stress free life and a better/larger home for the same price of a small apartment in big cities. Living in cities brings also disadvantages!

lmedinas··on The Unofficial Apple Events App for MacOS with Chromecast Support
But unfortunately is only available for "Android, Chrome or iOS app"

So this means other applications like Firefox, VLC etc... would have to reverse engineer the protocol.

lmedinas··on The Unofficial Apple Events App for MacOS with Chromecast Support
Did you reverse engineer the Chromecast protocol ? Or is it opensource now ?
lmedinas··on Behind the Pixel: Google’s First Real Threat to Apple’s iPhone
The interesting part will be for how long will the Phone + Software be supported. Now that the price is the same I think it's fair the support should be the same as the iPhone.
lmedinas··on Remove Firefox Hello from FF49
yep plus i wonder if they will pull the plug on Rust (which is an ambitious project).

I mean the project has it's momentum but in terms of industry it means nothing so i wonder if they will cut money someday like they are doing with these features.

lmedinas··on Remove Firefox Hello from FF49
I don't get why Firefox tends to add and remove feature so often. Even if it's because of money, this is hurting the user base.

Firefox Hello was probably an atempt to fuel WebRTC or provide some capabilities to Firefox OS. But it was included in the main distribution - Firefox - spending resources for what ?

lmedinas··on OpenBSD 6.0, to be released September 1
Still i can imagine they require recent compilers (w/ support for C++11) to build for example some ports like Chromium.

This means they rely on "old" compilers to compile "old" C code from the base.

lmedinas··on OpenBSD 6.0, to be released September 1
Just curious if OpenBSD plans to continue to use the old gcc 4.2.1 or migrate to LLVM or even GCC 5.1. I can imagine the later is not compatible due to the license.
lmedinas··on Why not C++?
Trust me even though it's not updated everything he mentions in the book is still valid. If you want to really know more about specifically modern C++ there is always Modern Effective C++
lmedinas··on Apple is hiring engineers to bring WebRTC to Safari
Sure but somebody needs to port it and maintain it.
lmedinas··on Oculus Connect 2: Live Coding Session with John Carmack [video]
