I'd much rather read a primary source than read a blog that summarizes a splog that links to another blog that wrote about a headline that appeared in the NY Times.

I pay for NYTimes, WSJ, ACM Digital Library, etc. And most often the best information is from these sites.

My gmail address, which I got when gmail just started, is my last name @gmail.com. There's no first initial, no numbers after it.

Now, my last name isn't that common, but there are probably several thousand people with it. And I get all sorts of email for all the others with my same last name who think that last name @ gmail.com will work.

I can press two keys at once on _my_ piano. And I don't have to play at 5 keys/second.

Exactly! Why do the Linux people try to "take over" every Windows thread? The Windows folks don't barge into every Linux thread.

Windows 10 is excellent. We moved our all-mac company (~20 developers) off Macs and onto Windows over the past year, because Apple no longer supports the high end. We do GPGPU programming, and you can't plug a high end NVIDIA card into a MacPro. (The Mac Apologists will say you can, but you can't -- not in any useful performant reliable way.)

In any event, during the installation process, you do see a screen where you can turn all this off. It's not off by default, but viewing these settings was part of my Windows 10 installation experience.

This could be useful, especially with extended "gits" that allow for easy manipulation of large binaries, when working with creative departments who aren't used to source-code control workflows. (Even in 2015, most art departments are still a mess of external drives and drop boxes)

I think it's a Bad Idea in C/C++, but it may not be a Bad Idea in some untyped interpreted languages, or in a special "checked build / debug" C++ environment.

I had the exact same experience. I got my first name, a common name, spelled the usual way, and I made my email "firstname@firstname.to" (that's Tonga). I used this for non-critical mail, like when a business (face to face) asks for an email.

I gave up. Nobody understood it. They would try to add .com at the end. Every time.
