lightbulbjim··on Backing up a Linux system to Usenet
Already implemented. See: http://esoteric.codes/post/123650565028/pingfs-storing-your-...
lightbulbjim··on GitLab’s Secret to Managing Employees in 160 Locations: Write Everything Down
Please keep it up. We need more companies like you.
lightbulbjim··on Search at Slack
I've used Sphinx (http://sphinxsearch.com) in a previous job. If it fits your needs then it's pretty nice.
lightbulbjim··on The Problem with AMP
Ditto.
lightbulbjim··on The Problem with AMP
Yep, AMP is what finally made me switch away from Google on my phone.
lightbulbjim··on Why I switched from OS X to Linux
> Honestly, what the hell is with PC manufacturers that still include the TrackPoint™ Style Point, Nub, Nipple Mouse, Clit Mouse?!

Some people like them.

lightbulbjim··on From OS X to Ubuntu
Its rolling release nature can make it feel overwhelming if you don't surf the bleeding edge. I ran a Gentoo desktop back in the day and if I didn't `emerge world` once a week or so I'd find myself sinking into that swamp of maintenance that you refer to.
lightbulbjim··on OSX Chrome 55 Blocking non-store extensions without dev mode
I just had a picture of a Google self driving car taking you to your destination via "sponsored routes", past businesses who have "paid per view".
lightbulbjim··on A tiny PC as a router
Nope, EdgeOS is a fork of VyOS, based on Debian. There is a GUI, but there's also a CLI which exposes a lot more functionality. You can even install standard Debian packages via Apt.

lightbulbjim··on Offline mobile maps from Mapbox
I like mapFactor Navigator [http://navigatorfree.mapfactor.com/en/download] on Android for car navigation. The most useful feature for me is that you can search via Google.
lightbulbjim··on New U.S. FAA rule requires drone owners to register by Feb 19
It's worth noting that you register once and then mark each aircraft with your registration number[0]. You don't need to register each aircraft.

lightbulbjim··on After a ten-year hiatus, NetHack 3.6
My favourite version is glHack: http://glhack.sourceforge.net

It has nicer 2D tiles than the QT ones IMO and you can toggle between the tiles and ASCII mode (with a few enhancements) by pressing tab.

Too bad it's so old. I wonder if there's any chance of it getting ported to 3.6.0.
