liamgooding··on Show HN: LazyPub, Cloud Publishing so easy it makes you lazy
I saw that, but assumed it meant "if you pay for 6 months, you'll get 6 months for free". So maybe just be a lot simpler and have a big banner across the top and repearted at the bottom of the pricing table:

"6 Month Free Trial On Standard Package, First 100 Only"

Is there a developer type account (thinking after you expire the 6 month free trial), so that my agency can get our publication all setup and test it out (but in an a format no way usable for production, i.e. watermarked?)

Have you tried a Free trial? Without a Freemium, or even a Free Developer account, I think it's going to be hard to get the initial traction?

p.s. Just a little feedback on the homepage:

The left-right-left of the features/benefits is a little squashed and I found I had to look for a minute before I realised what was happening. Nothing a bit of padding couldn't solve I'm sure.

liamgooding··on Ask HN: Examples of "build first, monetize later" successes?
Reading around the history of Facebook, there were advertising sales quite early, a lot earlier than people realise. They used to do local campus deals, student credit card deals etc.

Echoing dasht's point above, no startup should plan to "monetize later". Plan for 'profitability later' but without some kind of test (like a sale) it's going to be harder to test and iterate on ideas (lean startup etc.)

Congrats Tero and Anssi, this is such an awesome update! Being on the FP journey over the years has been great, and V5 proves that journey is still very relevant and very exciting!

Going to have a play with it this week for sure.

liamgooding··on Show HN: lightweight Blog / Tumblelog engine "embr"
Can't see tags/category showing up on a demo post, but it's looking like a really lightweight solution. Great work!

In your opinion, what would make someone use this over setting up a hosted Tumblr?

liamgooding··on Building a Web Application that makes $500 a Month – Part I
Thanks, an interesting read that puts a lot of the other "I'm so amazing because my rails app makes me and my uni buddies £50k a month" into perspective.

But I'd echo the comments above - would be good to see the next posts go up soon in particular to what you actually started doing differently that saw it increase. Maybe others here will be able to build on that to give some advice to turn that $500 into $5k :)

liamgooding··on Evolution of the Consumer Web and the Rise of Gamification
Beyond the obvious and completely overused case-studies, where do you hope gamification could evolve?

I think the blog post gives a gentle introduction to the leadup of gamification but reading over the rest of the site, it seems a lot of risk for a platform to put their weight behind a points/badges system.
