I do software.

lfuller··on NodeBB: Node.js-based forum software
Many forums are exactly that - a public conversation. Not everyone who makes a post on a forum is looking for an answer per se.
lfuller··on The Joy of Typing
I agree completely. I've always found that listening and transcribing are mutually exclusive. In university taking comprehensive notes were often helpful, but I would usually not know what had been discussed in the class until I re-read the notes later.
lfuller··on Stormforger – Cloud-based Load Testing as a Service
I can't recommend Redline13 (https://www.redline13.com) highly enough. They act as a service that coordinates load testing using instances within your own AWS account.

Really easy to use, and I can run tests that used to cost upwards of $5,000 for under $5. I don't know how they aren't better known amongst DevOps types.

lfuller··on Twitter's GIF hack
But that's your choice, as was Twitter's choice to make a modification compatible with the majority of its users.

Price is irrelevant in the case of theft. I consider purchasing stolen goods to be immoral.
lfuller··on We Need To Talk About Depression
AIDS and the ebola virus are not spectrum diseases - you either have >= 1 ebola / HIV viron in your system or you don't. This is entirely different from depression which is a spectrum disorder with many differing degrees of severity.

Would it not be because the retina is curved?
lfuller··on Flappy Bird in Swift
I'd argue the second is clearer in many cases. Readability trumps conciseness any day.
lfuller··on Tesla's relative asks Elon Musk for a donation to finish the Tesla Museum
This is akin to the common "I'm not racist, but" or "no offense, but".
lfuller··on NASA, CNES Warn SpaceX of Challenges in Flying Reusable Falcon 9 Rocket
"We'd pick them out of the ocean, but we spent a lot of time cleaning those things up when we got them back"

And there's the rub. SpaceX is working on having reusable components land on solid ground.

lfuller··on We'd lose our security certificate if we allowed pasting
My bank not only allows a maximum of 6 characters, but it truncates all characters beyond 6 when processing the login form. If my password was "passwd", they would accept "passwdjdodw89wawlks".
lfuller··on Global heatmap of cycling and running routes
I'm amazed that there hasn't been more conversation about this - kudos to both you and Strava for this. These tools and this data set seem to have huge potential for crowd-sourced mapping.
lfuller··on The Invention of the AeroPress
I'm in Canada and most people I know have an electric kettle (anecdotal, but still).
lfuller··on Groove Virtual Office
What was the original title? I really don't get it.
lfuller··on Can You Buy A License to Speed?
The point is that there is a lot less to destroy on a barren freeway than a residential area filled with pedestrians and property.
lfuller··on Internet use is associated with non-religion
Non-religion? Why would atheism not be an appropriate descriptor in this situation? (I'm honestly curious.)
lfuller··on MH370 flew as low as 1,500m to avoid detection, says paper
I may be missing something, but this seems like a very misleading headline.

The actual article states that the plane "dropped 5,000 feet (1,500m)" and later that the "twinjet descended 1,500m or even lower". This simply means that the plane descended by a relatively small amount compared to 35,000 - 40,000 foot cruising altitudes, not that it was skimming the ground at 5,000 feet.

lfuller··on New Jersey bans direct auto sales; Tesla stock inches lower
"create competition, cut out haggling"

I believe that's the issue. The dealership lobby holds a lot of clout (and donation dollars) with the current government.

lfuller··on Apple releases OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 with SSL fix
I believe that the recent NSA revelations are the primary reason this bug is so concerning. We already know that the US government has access to the majority of packets being routed across the US, and this bug makes it trivial to decrypt those originating from Apple devices.
lfuller··on Colorado Pot Tax Proving More Lucrative Than Expected
I don't think Hacker News is any place for this level of discourse. Voice your arguments, but there is no need for personal attacks.

Your body tag is set to "overflow: hidden;". I wasn't able to scroll until I tweaked it manually in the inspector.
lfuller··on Why I’ll be Pirating Adobe’s Products From Now On
It seems to me that if you're planning to apply your serial to a piece of software that you download off The Pirate Bay then that software is not an illegal copy. It's only illegal if you breach your licensing agreement.

Is this not the very definition of domestic terrorism?
lfuller··on Elite Hacker Barnaby Jack 'overdosed on drugs'
Please see above for the context of my statement.
lfuller··on Elite Hacker Barnaby Jack 'overdosed on drugs'
To anyone attacking me, my comment was sarcastic and intended to point out the xenophobia inherent in the OPs statement. I wasn't saying that "I" thought minorities should be killed, I was dryly saying that the "ideal world" spoken about by the OP would be a horrible one in which many innocent people would die.

For that matter - what kind of terrible person would publicly go on Hacker News and say that they think minorities should die? Why would that be your first thought?

lfuller··on Elite Hacker Barnaby Jack 'overdosed on drugs'
Yes, I feel like people didn't understand the point of my comment. I was pointing out that the OP's "ideal world" sounded pretty xenophobic when taken in context. Just because we don't care about someone doesn't mean it's irrelevant if they're killed.
lfuller··on Elite Hacker Barnaby Jack 'overdosed on drugs'
There'd be a lot fewer minorities if that was the case.
lfuller··on Tesla Battery Swap Is The Hoax Of The Year
At the risk of sounding Ad Hominem, "whatsupwiththat.com" is primarily a climate change denial website and scientific conspiracy theory blog. I'd take any claims with a grain of salt.
