Some other games with similar vibes to Obra Dinn:

The recently released Echo Beach.. "As a clerk at the Ministry, your job is to hunt down the remaining musicians in their place of last refuge - The Musicnet."

Hypnospace Outlaw "In Hypnospace Outlaw you play as a volunteer 'enforcer' who is tasked with bla bla bla... to make money bla bla. The cool thing is that there's a super robust fake OS and a really big fake internet with all kinds of neat things to find. OK?!? Ok!"

I agree it's pretty grindy, but there was a free DLC that introduced "workers" (zombies) and that cut down on a lot of the grind.

I'd love to watch something while rowing but inevitably I start to lose form while distracted.

The tweet that got the account locked was a reply to the first one presented: "@craigmod There may be a video on how to cut off your leg"

I've heard that Pringles tubes (foil lined cardboard with plastic lids) are a bit of a recycling nightmare for that reason.

Surprised the heck out of me too, I would have intensely weird and disturbing dreams if I took a whole melatonin tablet (around 3-5mg). Slept a lot better once I started dividing them into quarters.

It tends to be hard to find outside of college towns....

Have you ever tried engineering paper? :) Might save you the step of taping grid paper! The grid only exists on one side, but essentially disappears when scanned.

78 at my thermostat can easily mean 85+ on the upper floor. (No it's not a very efficient house)

We're all just people wearing funny rings!

Similarly for the Order of the Engineer:

I am an Engineer. In my profession I take deep pride. To it I owe solemn obligations.

As an Engineer, I pledge to practice integrity and fair dealing, tolerance and respect; and to uphold devotion to the standards and the dignity of my profession, conscious always that my skill carries with it the obligation to serve humanity by making the best use of the Earth's precious wealth.

As an Engineer, I shall participate in none but honest enterprises. When needed, my skill and knowledge shall be given without reservation for the public good. In the performance of duty and in fidelity to my profession, I shall give my utmost.

As an adult I love recognizing the patterns and anticipating what's coming next! The only difference is the patterns get more complex :)

Hah I hope not. I'm 31 and just starting my time as a stay at home dad. I sure hope the tech jobs are around for me when I make it out the other side :)

Hah yes, inspectors try to be as minimally liable as possible. Ours went to great lengths to get us to have someone come out and check the "stains" underneath a bathroom sink without actually saying the m-word that rhymes with cold :)

Does it not have a spin cycle? After that runs on mine there's nothing left to drain.

Edit: oh no apparently it's a questionably maintained communal laundry room unit, I'm so sorry

"A Tour of C++" is only 256 pages and the 1st edition is what I used to get into modern C++ in the workplace years after a strange mix of C/C++ labs in college.

You're only a few years into your career, not saddled with an oversized tuition from a prestigious university, and already making $200k with a sizable net worth. In my books that's absolutely a path to wealth!

Some days I can't tell which comments on HN are parody and which aren't...

Turn it back into a curated online directory :)

The deskcycle has a port for its own odometer that's just connected with a regular 3.5mm audio cable. I don't remember 100% what the app does. I think I got as far as translating pulses to the same "speed" measurement as their odometer, but ran out of steam after that.

One pet peeve of mine with the button-ish links is that sometimes they only work if I click on the text itself.

Great writeup! I did something similar for the (much dumber) DeskCycle which has a simple odometer. Conveniently I was just able to plug it into Aux In and track pulses.

I'm not sure how treatment plans vary, but I'm required to have medication checkups with a doctor every 3 months and a yearly EKG & blood panel.

It's so weird to keep hearing that prescription doses of these drugs are addictive. I regularly forget to take them until it's too late in the day and if I took them I would have trouble sleeping... :/

I've heard there are some drugs that impair executive function enough to simulate bad ADHD, it's too bad they're probably not legal to for people to take to gain a sense of empathy :)

This was a major symptom that led me to seek a diagnosis. I was never diagnosed/medicated for ADHD until I was 25.

One of the actual bullshit things about ADHD is that I often can't focus even on things I do like. Absolutely nothing convenient about that.

On the other hand if you're stopping there for a charge, you'll be spending longer and have more time to consider just popping in for a snack.

Isn't the danger now that someone could call into your bank and say "I forgot them exactly, but the answers are just random strings"

Nanite?

> Nanite virtualized micropolygon geometry frees artists to create as much geometric detail as the eye can see. Nanite virtualized geometry means that film-quality source art comprising hundreds of millions or billions of polygons can be imported directly into Unreal Engine—anything from ZBrush sculpts to photogrammetry scans to CAD data—and it just works. Nanite geometry is streamed and scaled in real time so there are no more polygon count budgets, polygon memory budgets, or draw count budgets; there is no need to bake details to normal maps or manually author LODs; and there is no loss in quality.
