lez··on How much free time do you have?
This is largely effected by the nutrition / mental / health state of the individual. I personally spend a lot of time (cooking, sports, spend time researching mineral/vitamin/other supplements), and it took me around 4 years to find the things my body needs. I am now very rarely "energy exhausted" and mentally clear the whole day, having more energy than 10 years ago. The message here is that one can spend time and pick up habits that make the body function better, with a good chance that the efforts will pay off one day.
lez··on “Evidence-based medicine has been hijacked”: John Ioannidis (2016)
He is a spiritual brother of Dr. Peter Gøtzsche, who is also very clearly describing the corruption going on in the medical sciences.

He made simple statistical analysis to prove certain drugs like antidepressants causing side effects / death. His findings ignored, he was removed from his leading position from Cochrane Collaboration.

lez··on ‘My mum didn’t vaccinate me – this is what happened next’
One personal story NEVER beats a thousand (correctly orchestrated) medical statistics.
lez··on Two dead after YouTube conspiracy video claims drinking bleach cures autism
I'm quite sure the girl was not deliberately wanting his ex to die. The "I'll kill myself if you leave me" kind of emotional blackmailing is just too common among hurt exes.

So how do politicans, do not deserve the same (in case they do the same)? Or when Mark Zuckerberg manipulates the mood of fb users? Where is the line?
lez··on Apple Watch detects irregular heart beat in large U.S. study
Apple Watch is technically capable of detecting your heart rate. NSA is capable of enforcing Apple to feed this data to them, real time if needed. Never wear an Apple Watch during lying to powerful people, your heart rate will give you away.
lez··on Online activists are silencing us, scientists say
I was cured from CFS to the point I can live a normal life with a controversial substance called MMS in 2 weeks time.

The very same thing happened with a friend of mine.

It's not an attempt to win any scientific argument with anecdotes here, instead I am just adding my data points.

lez··on Show HN: Quickly browse the history of any GitHub file
It would be even more awesome than it is, if:

* A "blame" column could be turned on at the left, showing output from "git blame". * When hovering over a line in the blame column, the main window shows the historical version of the file when the commit was born. Commit message appears on the left (even more left). * When it is clicked, the timeline jumps there.

I understand it would be a lot of work, but it would be a super valuable tool for browsing file history in git.

lez··on New study: Google manipulates users into constant tracking
I think it's not about "understanding" cognitively, it's about really, deeply believing this is happening to us.
lez··on Aether – Free, privacy-sensitive public communities
For linux users who don't want to install the snap, just try it out:

$ sudo mkdir /mnt/aether

$ sudo mount -t squashfs <downloaded.snap> /mnt/aether

$ /mnt/aether/aether

lez··on The Conspiratorial Hate We See Online Is Increasingly Appearing in Real Life
Given the definition of crazy = someone who lost connection to the reality. If you don't agree with somebody on the reality, how do you tell who is the crazy one? Is it possible that the majority is crazy?
lez··on When Telecom Companies Search Your Home for Piracy
Money (USD) is controlled by one thing:

* The FED

lez··on Coinbase is launching support for the USDC stablecoin
Look at MKR token, which is the governance token of Dai. It more than doubled in price during the last months. Because it's sparse and used up when making new Dai's (by collaterizing crypto assets).

Buying MKR and supporting Dai might be a good strategy.

lez··on Coinbase is launching support for the USDC stablecoin
I always look at askance to USD-in-a-bank-account backed stablecoins. There's no innovation in them.

Their value also depends on how many USD's stored in that bank account (not transparent to ordinary people), and the inherent problem with USD - that the FED, a central authority prints it, remains still.

There are other - in my opinion more honest - crypto-only stablecoins, like Dai (of MakerDAO) or Augmint, which are not freezable by any authority, nor cheatable by bribed auditors. They are backed solely by crypto assets, all transparent.

lez··on 'Mindful people' feel less pain
Pain is feeding from fear, which can explain these:

* you feel less pain if you cause it for yourself (you've already conquered fear)

* mindfulness eases pain because of more knowledge / seeing, less fear

lez··on Facebook is rating the trustworthiness of its users on a scale from zero to one
I'm curious how Facebook will distinguish between a fake news and a sci-fi essay I just posted on my blog. I'm guessing I'll be having close to zero visitors on my sci-fi blog.
lez··on I don't trust Signal
The F-Droid argument is the strongest and most evident among all. I don't trust Google, I don't trust Play.

The main point is, Moxie could take the wind out of the sails of literally all arguments in this page by publishing Signal on F-Droid but he just won't.

This alone is enough for me to lose trust in Signal.

lez··on Crypto’s $600B Crash Hits a New Low
'things like Tether' - There are basically two of them. Tether and MakerDAO.

MakerDAO has the advantage that it is designed so that you don't need to trust any human or organizational player. Just the crypto itself.

Tether can fall apart any minute. (e.g. when Tether executives play dirty)

lez··on GitLab sees huge spike in project imports
The focus is on long term freedom here, not occasional performance issues. People who are migrating projects right now to GitLab are implying that Microsoft will push the site's policies in unwanted directions. And the frogs who did not jump out in time will be boiled to death in the slowly heating water.
lez··on Facebook is banning all ads promoting cryptocurrencies
Sounds like fb is planning to dive into the blockchain world.
lez··on Mocker: A crappy imitation of Docker, written in 100% Python
I'd prefer Rocker, a Docker written in Rust :)
lez··on Breast-cancer death rate drops almost 40 percent
Agree that ketogenic diet is definitely worth a look.

The science behind that is that cancer calls can live on glucose only, while all other cells in the body are able to use ketones as fuel. Starving out cancer cells is definitely a good start.

lez··on Breast-cancer death rate drops almost 40 percent
I wonder why iodine is not mentioned in the article, and how much its use has contributed to the rate drop.
lez··on ZeroNet: Decentralized websites using Bitcoin crypto and the BitTorrent network
Just a minor correction: if you provide a stable API for querying the database, you can ignore the technological details on the caller side, the website.
lez··on Stanford scientist searches for answer to his son’s Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
There are tests available, see: http://drmyhill.co.uk/wiki/Mitochondrial_Function_Profile

(and more on that page)

lez··on Lyra: a platform for deep, meaningful conversations with people you care about

lez··on Tell HN: Political Detox Week – No politics on HN for one week
I was planning to delay the point when I get to know who the winner was on the elections... (I live in Europe) In work nobody speaks about politics. I don't read traditional news sites. I was just curious who will tell me first. Then I opened Hacker News...
lez··on Steven Pinker on Language, Reason, and the Future of Violence
The problem is, there is no upper limit on "enough". Wars have been started on grounds of vital resources like food, water, etc. it's not common nowadays, as technology helped us to produce food more efficiently, and it's enough for the current population of the planet. Maybe it will not be enough for 15 billion people, which is not happening in the near future.

But then there are wars started on grouds of religion (ISIS), or territorial agression for the future generation (WWII), and none of these has to do with current resource limitations. These are based on ideologies that are made up and controlled by few and distributed via media.

Technology has made it possible to spread these kinds of ideologies more efficient than ever. It's everywhere, in news, facebook, even in Hollywood. And it is slowly transforming people to accept a greater level of violence.

lez··on A full-featured form software built with love in python
Have you considered AGPL as a license? So that anyone deploying and changing your app will have to give back.
