lelf··on Apple introduces 8-core MacBook Pro
Not to mention that it’s basically 4 SSDs on 4 PCIe buses.

Edit: I don’t really understand downvotes. SSD on recent Macbook Pros does connect to the northbridge via 4 PCIe lanes. And this is not what “but look I can the same for £50” SSD does.

lelf··on Let's start using DuckDuckGo more often
You can surely think of a better choice

lelf··on An old artifact kept in a vault outside Paris is no longer the standard kilogram
Definition of mole changes too.

One mole contains exactly 6.022 140 76×10²³ elementary entities (as opposed to the number of atoms in 12 grams of ¹²C). Effective 20 May 2019.

lelf··on Erlang OTP 22.0 is released
That is not the reason. It makes sense to compile to Erlang AST representation and leverage all the power (codegen/optimisations/…) of Erlang compiler for free.
lelf··on Gameboy.live: A basic Gameboy emulator with terminal “cloud gaming” support
No (since High Sierra IIRC)
lelf··on Shenandoah GC in production: experience report
[citation needed]. I’d say it’s pretty freaking fast for a bytecode interpreter. Not to mention Hipe.
lelf··on Shenandoah GC in production: experience report
Erlang: no global pause at all. Even for major GCs. Basically every Erlang process (≈ “green thread” in common terminology) has its own collector.

What? Generics ≡ parametric polymorphism.

lelf··on Some AMD CPU's RDRAND might not return random data after a suspend/resume
> The instruction is signalling success

Let’s wait for clarifications how that person has done the tests.

However: the bug is about systemd failing to get entropy, not getting nonsense entropy.

lelf··on Some AMD CPU's RDRAND might not return random data after a suspend/resume
Catchy title. Nowhere it says it returns non-random data. It just fails.
lelf··on Some AMD CPU's RDRAND might not return random data after a suspend/resume
RDRAND is not guaranteed to always succeed (and never was). You’re supposed to retry on failure.

(Although linked in that thread systemd code has fallback anyway, so I’m not sure how it fails at all).

Edit: not to mention that it’s better just to not use it, ever. Quite sane and sensible thing.

lelf··on Show HN: ZFS Implementation in Python
You don’t need CDDL to use ZFS. Which is all the library does. It does not implement ZFS.
lelf··on Show HN: ZFS Implementation in Python
Bad title. It’s not a ZFS implementation, so hold your horses.
lelf··on Show HN: ZFS Implementation in Python
No ARC/L2ARC?

Edit: of course not. This is actually just it’s just a ZFS user-facing ”front-end”, not a ZFS implementation.

lelf··on Inside Erlang – Joe Armstrong tells his story (2014)
Yeah, this phenomenon definitely exists. Probably just the unfamiliar syntax, — somehow enough to make people see Erlang as “complicated”. While in reality Erlang is one of the most simple and consistent languages out there.
