leeman2016··on System76's Lemur Pro Laptop Is Just a Nice Linux Laptop
Personally, I find ThinkPads and any of the Dell laptops without discrete graphics cards, reliable for Linux.
leeman2016··on Was Rust Worth It?
That's awesome, honestly. Can't wait.
leeman2016··on Was Rust Worth It?
Let me give a real world example from my own experience.

I have built a Win32 desktop app with its core logic in Go; and then re-built from scratch using .NET (v7). The core logic involved a fairly complicated keyboard input processing based on bunch of config files.

- Final binary of .NET ~ 14 MB

- Final binary of Go ~ 2 MB

leeman2016··on Was Rust Worth It?
Yea, I missed trimming. But still NativeAOT results in 10x the size of the Go binary in Windows (win-x64)
leeman2016··on Was Rust Worth It?
You're right. But even with trimming I get around 10x the size of the Go binary

C# is a lovely language to work with.

The only issue I have is with the .NET ... that is, building self-contained binaries to distribute.

For comparison:

* Hello World win-x64 binary self-contained in .NET 7 is around 70 MB

* The same for Go results in 1.2 MB

Edit: Missed 'trimming' in .NET, which would result in a binary of size around 11 MB in win-x64

leeman2016··on Geany 2.0 – Flyweight IDE
Tried it in Windows 10 and its really performant.

But doesn't show Unicode characters (that aren't English characters) automatically.

leeman2016··on Unit: A visual programming system [video]
I will argue .NET's Windows Forms is an easier and so much better successor to VB in all aspects. It has even survived through the .NET Core and .NET era.
leeman2016··on Can you use a class in C?
How would you do DI abstractions using just functions? (Honest question)

I am so much used to the idea of swapping out functionality (set of functions and a state). For example, just recently I had to swap out an Excel spreadsheet reader/writer library in Go for performance reasons, and would have bled a lot (due to refactoring) had it not been encapsulated as an interface.

leeman2016··on Bfs 3.0: The Fastest Find Yet
There is a mistake in the README of the github repo:

In the 1st part of the "Features" section, the "bfs" and "find" columns' contents are swapped. I was a bit confused while reading it and it took me a while to notice that it was a mistake.

How about FSearch in Linux? [http://cboxdoerfer.github.io/fsearch/]
leeman2016··on Svelte is a language
There is nothing holding anyone back from using (expression ? val1 : val2) in svelte though. So, we're not missing anything that JSX/react has got. The {#if} thingy is just a bonus which is welcome in my opinion.

Not "default(s)", but gin and fiber come to mind regarding popularity.

Using Windows 10 with the 6th Gen 6700 HQ, 16 GB ram and an SSD. There are some annoying lags here and there.

Like the login screen, for example. Lock the PC (Windows Key + L) followed by CTRL key to activate the password prompt, and immediately put in my password ... then the 1st one or two characters from my password won't usually make it into the password input.

leeman2016··on The Go Programming Language and Environment
Let's not also forget that the .NET self-contained executables are huge in size compared to Go's. An ASP.NET app could be more than 100 MB

WPF is pretty good, actually. It is kind of 'done' at this point and thus the maintenance mode.

The future could be MAUI though; and it is around the corner

leeman2016··on Telegram: Payments 2.0, Scheduled Voice Chats, New Web Versions
It really is that good. Out of the bunch of apps on my iPhone Telegram is the one that is fast, effectively using cellular data, feature packed. The Unigram client on Windows 10 is also neat.
leeman2016··on Comparing Svelte and React
