lborsato··on Ask HN: Ever lost your love for coding? How did you get it back?
Sadly I’m watching one of the companies I consult with go this way prioritizing process over productivity, while at the same time basing requirements on the deals they’ve signed lately rather than a clear plan. I’ve seen it before and it is painful to watch.
lborsato··on Covid lesson: trust the public with hard truths
Thank you all for one of the most calm, reasonable, and rational discussions I have seen in the past two years.

Or to work remotely.
lborsato··on Scientists discover a highly potent antibody against SARS-CoV-2
My family had Covid in January 2020. All of the now known symptoms but there were no tests available yet. Our doctor later confirmed it based on symptoms a couple of months later but we were not eligible for tests then. A year and a half later we would certainly have B-cells but antibodies would likely have faded. So what do people in that situation do?

Why is it that all I hear is “give Google access to your microphone”?
lborsato··on Your Money and Your Life (Edward Snowden)
Yes, sadly many humans are not evidence-based and simply believe what they are told without asking for actual evidence.

Perhaps the first thing to do is stop listening to the marketing (yes, the message tested marketing pitch being sold to you) that people who have every prior vaccination, yet want to understand the risk/reward profile of this particular one, are somehow “anti-vaxxers”.

For me, the past two years will go down in history as a spectacular example of marketing messaging.

lborsato··on A Short Rant About Working Remotely
I've worked remotely for about 7 years now, with startups and more established companies. These companies have typically been distributed themselves, realizing that it is easier to work with smart people where they are than to try to get everyone to move to a specific place. We are constantly connected with IM, IRC, phones, Skype, etc. And we can handle development and problem solving around the clock easily.

I have no commute, nor does anyone else. And yet we have all seemed to function efficiently, with now problem that I've seen. And we are as effective as any team I have ever worked with, with none of the water cooler chat that goes on in the office. In fact, any team situation I've worked in has easily seen 50% of the day consumed by non-work-related conversation and meetings with no agenda and no responsibilities given.

I'll stick with remote work thanks.
