lbj··on Lessons learned on SaaS pricing
I expanded a bit on this in another comment, but these essence is this: We set the original prices based on our own hourlies and those in our network. Since launch, we've had considerable feedback from other industries where the average hourly is much closer 20€.

Basically, if you can't pay your own bills, I don't want you paying for ZimTik.

In addition, the customer gate was prohibitive for landing customers and the 30 days to send out your first invoices was stressful. The combination meant we had to lower prices and include invoices without the time-constraint.

Hopefully we hit the mark this time.

Thank you!

Externally I'd say the community on IndieHackers has been a big help.

Second, but this came back to bite me, I asked many of my closest "colleagues" about their thoughts on pricing. All consultants within software development, which is generally priced higher than the broad average of freelancers - And this isn't intended specifically for developers, but anyone who's starting out.

A finally reading everything I could find online, like https://www.cobloom.com/blog/saas-pricing-models# - But as you can see ultimately we didn't follow these strategies too closely.

lbj··on Lessons learned on SaaS pricing
I recall doing the same some 15 years ago :) I'll add a setting for increments which can be an int or Random. It won't be viable everywhere, but some will hopefully find it useful.

Thank you for lending me your keen eye, I'll get it fixed :)
lbj··on Lessons learned on SaaS pricing
Yes sir - So that if you've sent 5 invoices via another system, you can bump it and have it restart there. This is under your Profile, but you're the 2nd person to ask so I might move it into the Create Invoice Dialog.

Thanks for poking :)

lbj··on Lessons learned on SaaS pricing
100% correct.
lbj··on Lessons learned on SaaS pricing
Thank you!

We currently have 2 templates for invoices, but will add more in the future.

Serial no's are consecutive and you can set when to start the series, so if you're at 888 now, just punch that in and we'll increment on that.

lbj··on Lessons learned on SaaS pricing
Because we actually didn't take that into account. Which meant we became too inside->out focused. But the overall point is, that there's a lot of wisdom out there on SaaS pricing, it's still difficult to get right.

lbj··on How to handle difficult clients
Sorry if this wasn't stated clear enough. The advice here is for freelancers, where you have no boss.

If you are employed, then you need to get acceptance of possible outcomes from your management, before going into that talk.

lbj··on How to handle difficult clients
Actually it will almost always make it worse for a couple of minutes, then everything cools down. In my experience at least.

Thanks alot, I'll get that looked at!
lbj··on How to handle difficult clients
More generally I would say that you need to religiously manage expectations and to keep in mind that this is much easier going into a project than halfway through. Giving an estimate of "1 month" is easy. Giving "1 week" 4 times is very painful, which is why I always work off buffers.
lbj··on How to handle difficult clients
When I made the decision to only take on clients that I would love to work with, it pretty much changed my life.

This is why Hackers/Freelancers are so hard to please. I made ZimTik for almost all of the reasons this guy mentions. I just wanted something as simple as a spreadsheet that automatically takes care of as much as possible (invoices, taxes, expenses, etc). But we don't expose everything as txt files. But that's something I'll have to consider I guess :)

lbj··on Germany locks down unvaccinated people, as leaders plan to make shots compulsory
Interesting, I did not know. Have a source?
lbj··on Germany locks down unvaccinated people, as leaders plan to make shots compulsory
"open everything up despite it being relatively clear it was way too early"

It probably wasn't. There have been 2 major studies on the effects of covid-lockdown measures, they show a small increase in total mortality. So we should have done as the Swedes and kept everything open from beginning to end.

lbj··on Germany locks down unvaccinated people, as leaders plan to make shots compulsory
In Denmark we have now reached 90% vaccination rate. We have more infected, the same number of admissions in hospital and a 15% higher death rate than all of 2020. I really fail to see why we are blaming the unvaccinated and not Pfizer/Moderna.
lbj··on Is watching the 1984 Ghostbusters movie killing people?
I agree that if the vaccine was killing people, we'd be seeing mass death. Currently we are experiencing +15% all-cause mortality, where 2020 was around 0%.

The reason we are testing 200k/day is because you don't have many options for moving around without a valid test or vaccine. Ie. school, shopping, work etc requires it.

lbj··on Is watching the 1984 Ghostbusters movie killing people?
That's true, but what you can't tell from this graph was that in this period we went from 10.000 tests per day to almost 200.000, so I think that might account for must of the uptick in active cases in this period. During some of our biggest spikes the infection% has hovered around 2 - 3%.

Present day we have about 430k active cases, which is almost 10% of the population, but the % is still 2.3%.

lbj··on Is watching the 1984 Ghostbusters movie killing people?
Excellent analogy. I wonder if someone would be kind enough to shed some light on this graph: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/denmark/

If you scroll down to "Total Coronavirus Deaths" and click near the middle on December 11th, you'll notice a very rapid increase in deaths. December 11th was when we started vaccinating against covid.

I'm not saying that the vax is killing people, but this is a diehard argument from those who are negative against the covid vaccine.

What could a reasonable explanation be?

PS: Someone filed for more insight with our national institute of health (SSI) and they replied that following the first shots in December 2020, about 4.500 people died within 30 days. This is generally understood to be because the group we vaccinated first was already above the mean expected age, so their time was already up so to speak, ie. death could have been caused by anything, including old age.

I think it only caught the attention of the mainstream, because in all of 2020 we had a total of 1.250 "deaths with covid" whereof about 1.000 of these had more than 2 co-morbidities.

lbj··on Can mRNA Vaccines Defeat Herpes?
That's true, I should have been more clear.

As I stated in another comment, its hard to draw big conclusions from this data alone. The authors conclude that everyone should get vaccinated despite quickly diminishing returns. Looking a total morbidity in Denmark, I'm just not convinced.

lbj··on Can mRNA Vaccines Defeat Herpes?
Correct. But also, its not something you can draw that many conclusions from. For instance, I would need to see which variants were responsible for those admissions, as the vaccine might have better results on some than others. But nevertheless its important to collect as much data as possible.
lbj··on Can mRNA Vaccines Defeat Herpes?
You need to read the full text I'm afraid:

"Even though vaccinations offers protection to individuals against severe hospitalization and death, the CDC reported an increase from 0.01 to 9% and 0 to 15.1% (between January to May 2021) in the rates of hospitalizations and deaths, respectively, amongst the fully vaccinated"
